Favorite Invasion...?

What has been your favorite invasion?

I usually die as soon as I step outside the North Gate, but I liked the one with the Balantas (spelling?). The suspense leading up to the Big Beast's arrival was great and seemed to involve everyone.

I was told about an invasion that occurred long ago. No area was safe in Town .... the invaders came into the Towers, Bank, Inns and killed everything in their path. I don't remember the name of the invaders, but it sure did sound exciting. I think several hid in the Temple, and a few Lords managed to save the Town.

Ahhh... you mean the Banaltra... they served the feithidmor...aka the feed-it-more. I liked that one as well, even though I was dead through have of it. It was great for RP. And even though I was only 6 trains at the time, I got somewhat involved in the quest that had us searching for a way to kill it... *sighs* I miss that time. They should put more things like that in the lands. Even if it was a time of horror and destruction.

Either those rats that hat the rat helms, rat staffs, rat armors, etc. or the kobolds raiding the bank or Estrion/Darkstone. reg
There was an invasion a REALLY long time ago... back when my old character was 25 or so... and it was of a whole BUNCHA stuff in the kobold village. The one creature that stands out was the "contorted pariah"'s that invaded. It was just fun to have such a variety of unique creatures.

Mad fun.

I have a little invasion story that brings a chuckle or two and twinkle in my eye when I think about it.

This invasion took place while I was still a med student at the University of Elanthia. One evening, after hitting the books, a couple of my friends; Oceana and Goldtone, decided to see what was going on in the town. We were on the path outside of Wehnimer's just minding our own business. You know how youngins are. However, the well traveled dirt path that we had traveled many times before seemed a little deserted. No matter, we mushed on, going farther away from town. I, being the most cautious of the group, and the only one who knew how to read a map, was busily studying my map of the area. My two ranger companions preferred the "no-map" method of travelling, and preferred to ask the critters that they meet for directions.

Suddenly, my amulet carrying companions, received word of an invasion in town by Troll Kings. Being a young med student, I was busy trying to remember if I had studied that creature in Anatomy & Physiology class, or if I had skipped class that day. Well, we decided that we were all young, dumb, and (you know the rest), we would start heading back to town. As we started back to town, a cloud of dust bellowed up as a couple of Troll Kings came running by. You know, the typical broad shoulder testosterone filled types. Not willing to let them get by us, we decided that we would show them who the boss was, and proceeded to cut them down to size. Not to mention that it was three of us, only two of them. One hit from one of the Troll Kings made us silly, not to mention in immediate need of medical attention. I, not wanting to get lost, looked on the map to try to figure out the best route to take. In the meantime, the Troll Kings decided to practice some hand to hand combat with us, with them beating nine kinds of poop out of us. Luckily, we were able to scramble out of that room. We were running, trying to stay ahead of those Troll Kings, never more than couple of rooms ahead of them. We heard that the town was being devastated on the amulets. Thanks for the update guys, but I have a newsflash, we are getting devastated too.

Being the clever cookie baker that I was, I saw that we were pretty close to a huge boulder. Not seeing anyone nearby, we decided that we would jump up on the boulder and just wait the invasion out. We could jump up on the boulder, and just wait. Maybe even ambush one of those stupid Troll Kings, if we found one alone. We figured that three against one was odds more to our liking. One of my companions jumped up on the boulder. My second companion jumped up too. All of a sudden, I had company. It was only a low leveled critter, one of the wantabe's, so I decided to dispatch him before jumping up on the rock to join my comrades in arms. In the meantime, my two companions, decide that something must be wrong for I had not shown up. They thought that I needed some back-up, and came to save me. When I saw them jump, I thought that the whole town must have been hiding up on that boulder, and that they were throwing folks out. Last in, first out type of thing, or that there was no more room up there.

Well, it turns out that we were the only three in the whole town on that boulder. We sat out the rest of the invasion practicing first aid from the bruising that we got from them mean Troll Kings and keeping up on the progress of the invasion on the amulets. We lived to tell about it, and at that young age, it was good enough for us.

The rift opening was an event I doubt can ever be matched. It was weeks of events and invasions maybe months. Large scale game wide quests in which a special few had to ""save the world"". The invasions were incredible to say the least. If anything could come close to compairing it would be the whole luukos stealing the gryphon sword that was a great story line/invasion/event.

Ya, i agree Manodith.

The Bregandian invasion by far...

24/7 occurances and live voices consistantly...You knew the assassins by name.

I've never had such an easy time tailoring an invasion to my own character's storyline...

Rhain, was that the invasion where they tried to take over the town, and killed in the Inns, and other locations? It was before my time, but I've heard so many people talk about that invasion and I'm not sure what it was called. Do you happen to remember when it occurred and how long it lasted?

Summer reg

My favorite invasions are the ones where there are a few ridiculously overpowered monsters smashing people left and right and a ton of fairly easily killable monsters rushing in and out and fighting to add to the confusion. I also loved the invasions that started off with a bang. I haven't seen 30 people die in unison in a very long time.

The only place I found any information on the breg war.

My favorite invasion was a really insignificant one. Took place probably... 4 years ago... I had just gotten done hunting reivers and was headed back to town when I heard a buncha weird stuff was happening at the kobold village. I went and found a bunch of interesting creatures there. Dark monks, troll kings, harbingers, and my all time favorite creature, the "contorted pariah". I forget its stats, but it was such an interesting concept. Anyone remember such an invasion?

I think what you're thinking of was something along the lines of yetis. I can't remember it too clearly.

reg

The Bregandian invasion wasn't that long ago (or was it, time flies...)

This invasion lasted a long weekend and was 24 hours, ongoing interaction with live characters (that was a nice touch), they would argue with people on the amulet so we'd know them by name..they would snap their fingers and hide, then ambush people randomly...I do believe this was all done outside of town though (my old brain is failing)..You could kill the assassins, but they would just resurrect themselves.

I also believe this is the same invasion where people were kidnapped and taken to their ship...

Anyhow, it was a blast...automatic generated flying arrows are..not fun. But live assassins that stalk you and curse the blood coarsing through your veins...are fun!

reg

I think my favorite invasion was way back when I was playing my gimp ranger (level 25 and knew 103 and 609 and picked/disarmed). Was probably about level 10 when ::gasp:: frost giants and ice trolls invaded the Landing! <panic>

I remember getting my ass handed to me and the critters using me as a sled. I was in awe of these mighty beasts, and dreamt of someday when I would be able to handle myself in battle against them! <roar>

Ah those were the days. Level 15 and 19 critters tearing it up in an invasion. reg

I think the invasions where the critters came inside the town gates sound so fun. I haven't seen a huge invasion hit inside the town! Well, I was there when the banaltras attacked, but there wasn't a mob of 'em, just a few.

Personally, I think we're overdue for a huge invasion... the kind where the bank closes, the merchants close their shops, and everyone feels a twinge of fear and panic for a few days!

Summer reg

My all time favorite invasion was the Bregandian invasion which was an army from a far distance land that was going to take over the landing.

This invasion was so intense that people were actually thinking that Simutronics was going to close shop on the game and this was a good way to just end the whole game. As I remember, being a fairly young cleric that everytime the event started, the GMs brought in NPC characters who would go and target where the clerics and empaths were residing. No one was in safety except if you were in a major sanctuary.

To my knowledge, there hasn't been an invasion to this scale and intensity sense that time. The feithidmor invasion was probably been the closest sense that time.

reg

I think that Bregandian invasion was the one that I heard about where they invaded the Inns, Town Square, the Towers, etc. I was told the only safe place was inside the temple.

That just sounds evil, and so much fun!

Summer reg

The undead wars. No comparison for me. Though those crazy brigandians were a LOT of fun as well, with their taunting thoughts. Got rid of the OOC drivel for hours on the net!

Except.. what the hell is Bregandia? Has anyone or anything ever mentioned that place? The whole thing was made up by ONE GM and coordinated with his PC. This is the reason why big storylines need to go through approval nowdays.

I don't know if this was just one GM and his PCs, but I do know that the story line took years in the making. There were many events that led up to the final invasion that included some key characters such as Devestior and Spike the rat, and the two wizards in search of they keys and other encounters. The invasion was the final act of the story, and it was one hell of an invasion.

From what I understand, it was some sort of alternate dimension.

Yeah, they were all played by the same GM. ::winks::

Bregandia had absolutely NO basis. The only one GM promoted the storyline until up to the invasion. That's what made zero sense to me. If my PC starts talking about land of the IT where furry people live and dominate in an alternate dimension, if I become GM.. does that mean I get to make up a nonsense storyline promoting my own PC? For people who promote RPing so heavily, it's hard to believe you guys didn't see through this and actually thought it was a decent event. Ok, anyway. I'm off topic ranting.

Bianca reg

I think you're missing the point, Bianca.

There was RP, interaction, storylines, and threats of more invasions from this event. In short, everything you could ask for. If you can't get past the one GM, you should probably stick to the multicolored trolls that invade every once in a while. reg

I didn't miss the point, and I got past that one GM. I even killed my share of those Bregandians. ::winks:: The interaction was fun, being killed was even funnier.

What I was talking about were the people who're saying what RP gurus they are in the other folder, then turned around and said thought the storyline was so great.. when they couldn't even recognize a lame storyline if it bit them in the ass. But like I said, it was a rant.. and yanno how rants get. Just take a look at those posts in the concerns folder.

Bianca, done ranting

Both Devestior and Spike were played by Nebtwee. Devestior was his PC.

I do miss having Spike around though. I remember when he used to be around all the time <sniff> reg

My favorite invasion was on teras a few years ago. It consisted of some kind of witches and monkeys. The monkeys didn't hit hard but had a decent defense. The fun part was that when a witch killed you, the monkeys looted your body. Or just jumped all over you when alive and robbed you like the gremlins do. Every pretty much had a good time but fretted about getting items back. Someone had a wedding or engagement ring stolen off their finger and it was a frantic killing spree to find it. But everyone that had something stolen eventually got their items returned by other players. We had to kind of gather and say..anyone find my ring? anyone find my earrings? kind of fun pulling together and returning precious items to folks, brings people together. And the monkeys of course were hilarious, there were a lot of them..people didn't know whether to laugh or kill them. They'd stick their tongues out at you after they'd steal something..We had a ball with that one.

My favorite was definitely the Bregandian war. It was more than just an invasion, it was a WAR.

The enemy had personality, it was a chase, and it was nonstop for days.

Kudos to the staff that did it, i wish there were more times like it.
