The Ebon Gate Festival

Well, The Ebon Gate Festival is approaching.. anyone going? I attended last year and had a grand time. I really enjoyed the variety of events, the gambling, rides, haunted house, contests, not to mention the shopping <drools and whispers... perfume!>.

A highlight would have to be the haunted house. I don't want to reveal any clues, but I died in the second room last year, and spent the next hour being dragged through the whole darn thing. Not to mention, losing all my silvers to two handsome thieves! Gads, dead and losing all my shopping silvers... can't get much worse than that! My goal this year is to make it through the whole thing ALIVE and to come out with my darn coins!

The funniest memory of last year's Gate has to be the Log Ride. Do NOT stand up during the ride, and please keep all arms and legs inside the log at all times <hee hee>. And that's all I'm saying about that!

Due to the added costs I will not be taking all my characters through, however I will be going with one.

I had a pretty good time last year and Elvira was my favorite merchants there. In the past some pretty good items have been released in limited quanity and also at very low prices which later on these items have sold for millions more then they were bought for.

Last year however that really wasn't the case, but the most talked about item was probably the alteration tickets. I am hoping this year they have a beta of second or third year gift mecahnics.

Some of the items that have been sold are the deathstone earrings, and pendants. Mage rechargeable spirit strike and wall of force. They also sold those nice looking breastplates with 99/800 breakage. They sold for 1m a piece and they are now selling for 4-5m a piece.

Talk about profit on items. Deathstone earrings were 50k and the pendants were 100k I think. Earrings sell for 1.2-1.5m and the pendants sell for right around 1m. Also the 400-500% markup on the breastplates.

If the festival follows the past few years releasing some really nice items, then it will be fun to attend. The RP is nice as well, but since it is mainly a merchant festival I get tired of waiting at a merchants door listening to the whining.

I enjoyed the Dhu much more then I will the Ebons gate. Atleast with the Dhu they had more NPC's you could interact with. Just seems all the RP at Ebons takes place at the merchant doors and involves the SAME 20 people and all they are wanting is to get picked for work. Course thats what they paid for.

Did I hear Elvira? ::blink:: Geesh Simu sure has the market on originality. Hmmm halloween time frame with a merchant named Elvira... Wonder if they got that idea off the picture on the miller lite case they opened while eating pizza when designing that one.

I do find it rather interesting that Breakage's release and Ebon's Gate occur at the same time. I think that there will be a dramatic decrease in NPCs present at the festival because most of the GMs that run them will be working overtime to fix all the buggy breakage items that slip through the updating, answering scathing assists about drastically altered ST/BF , and dealing with all the general chaos associated with any large scale release.

All that said, I paid for EG for the first time this year, albeit I paid for it before it was 900 people(3/4 of the lands!). I'm guessing we'll see a whole bunch of limited items, probably more like cloaks and non-weapon related items. That's the only feasable way of doing it, if they had an unlimited supply of these things, well, we'd see the current trend of everyone and their mother with a cloak with spiders all over it.

My predictions:

Very Limited to no heavily or greater padded/weighted weapons or armor

Very Limited to no mage rechargables

Limited items enchanted over 5x

Limited items with drastically enhanced ST/BF

Lots of scripted items/joke items

Lots of pre-altered items with scripts

Possibly weapons with a new type of flare

Possibly armor/shields made to resist certain types of elemental attacks (Acid/Lightning/Fire/etc...)

Probably an enchanter

Probably a lightener

Definately a whole bunch of grumpy players

Would be nice to see the deathstone earrings come back and the pendants. They was nice. I blew up all 5 sets I had and a few pendants. But they was reasonable for what they was.

I will not be going. Just refusing to give them any extra money.

I'm going to Ebon's Gate. I went last year and had a good time, although it was much too crowded. I'm disappointed that what I thought were limited release tickets for this year went from 300 to 600 to 900. Why bother doing groups when everyone enters at the same time?

SimuMelissa stated that the festival grounds are well able to handle it, but the fact remains that when a merchant is in the game, most everyone flocks to that ONE room. The closing ceremonies for last year were great, but the screen scroll was hell, even though everyone tried to be limit the noise.

Despite the crowds, the shopping was grand. I hope to see more limited release items this year. More perfumes would be lovely Summer, especially custom ones! And perhaps some special makeup?? Fun toys would be nice. The dolls from last year were a blast, but egads, thousands of those must have been bought. You can hardly give them away now ::chuckles::

I'm looking forward to seeing Elvaria again. Kyalia is amazing in action, and Elvaria is a fun one to see. Not to mention the sheer numbers she does! She was the only alter I got, the first really nice alteration made for my character. The rest of the merchants were extremely hard to find before the lists closed or it was hard for a spinner to find you amidst the swarm in the room.

I hope there are some pretty clothes. I know it's too much to hope for some decent weapons and armor, and I probably wouldn't know the difference if it reached out and pinched me anyway!

Well, I spent a few hours at Ebon Gate last night, and I'm sure there is a lot that I still haven't seen.

The locket sold in the tent on the "inner circle" is my favorite purchase so far. There is a nice selection of lockets, and make great gifts if you don't open them... or you can open them and have a "portrait" of yourself to give to that special someone. Probably a "woman" thing, but I thought they were just grand!

Someone was kind enough to send me a list of shops and items, but it's a tad long to post (26 pages), so let me know if you need help finding anything.

Be sure to take a drink of the Witches Brew on the Island, near Smuggler's Secret. The games on the Island are fun, especially if you have some side betting on who can score the highest! I was a little disappointed that the Haunted Tomb hadn't changed from last year, but it's still fun. The Tunnel of Love is.... hmm, surprising.

I've only seen two merchants so far, and haven't had any luck in being one of the "chosen". I just don't have the patience required for alters, so my expectations aren't too high on getting any work done.

I kind of think these events are what you make them. If you like to explore and can make your own "fun", they are great. If you go expecting to be entertained, or get a gob of alters, you'll probably be disappointed.

I had a pretty enjoyable time, I managed to get an alteration by Elvaria, got one of the neat boxes from Ffens, and an undead ward from the travelling Augur (her name started with a Y, I can't remember it).

I enjoyed all the games, even blackdrake which conned me out of 500k.

I also won 3rd place for the epitaph contest.

The only downer was that a lot of my friends there didn't have much fun at all. The lack of a schedule made it very difficult to attend events, and some of the merchants and shops slated to appear were no shows. It just put them all in a bad mood. I also had not attended an EG before, so everything was new to me.

So, I give it 1 thumbs up, it was fun, and I think worth what I paid to attend.

After Gillywack, I thought I'd do another event, since I enjoyed that so much. This weekend, however, was a major disappointment for me. Today has been a vast improvement, at least I've seen merchants other than Elvaria (who deserves a lot of credit), so here's hoping it turns around tonight.

Piruvio was pretty funny, too. I enjoyed having him paint on Thaisis.

I think it's incredibly sad that the alteration merchants are picking up the ground for all the other merchants. Urebririon stayed around for a while...but no one was around as long as Elviria.

Same thing happened at the Dhu Galleywack with Eza.

I find it rather sad.

This was a very disappointing Ebon's Gate for me. reg

Elvaria and Eza were the same GM. She also does Katrianne and Sukara. She's not forced into or stuck doing so many alterations because she has to, she does it cause she wants to, and she does it often.

Over all, this Ebon's Gate wasn't as good as the ones years past, which had less people and more merchants, but I did still have fun.

Asmodea Drey'Haus reg

I actually had a lot fun. I had Cattriona take me around to a lot of places that I had never been to on Saturday. Yeah, I have to admit, I was rather disappointed, but only at first. After I found all the things that were free, or cheap, I had a lot of fun. There were a lot of games to play, and those skull pins were fun in themselves. Maybe I am just easily entertained. By the way, A very big thank you too all the GM's that made this Ebon's gate what is was, you know who you are. I know for a fact Elvaria stayed up well past 4 AM elven time Monday night/Tuesday morning doing alterations for people. And that wasn't the first night that weekend she had done it, either. And Piruvio, well, he was prolly the funniest merchant I have ever encountered.

Johnny reg

Maybe I just need to make more merchant hunter friends...
