I guess I'm the only one

Am I the only one that doesn't find invasions fun? "Yeah! I could die tonight! Woohoo!"

Frankly I don't like going into something knowing there's a possibility I'm going to die with the barest of my efforts. And for what? These invasion creatures barely ever have something worth risking your life for. At least when I go hunting I know some of them have treasure. Invasion creatures have next to nothing and have a 50% more chance of killing me.

Someone PLEASE explain to me why invasions are so fun like people claim. People IM me and say "Ooo you missed an invasion last night" and I say, "I didn't miss anything. I'm glad I wasn't there." and I get perplexed reactions to that. reg

They stopped being fun when they became common. "Oh, an invasion? How boring, we had 5 different ones yesterday."

I think invasions are fun for a lot of the older characters because it gives them a chance to not necessarily "show off" their abilities, but it allows them to "save" the town, or whatever the situation is.

I'm sure there's some people (although I wish there weren't) that view invasions as an opportunity to run around and pick the weapons and items that other characters have dropped and run off with them.

Some invasions which carry a storyline and interactive characters are much more interesting. Seems like some idiot usually kills them before you can get any information from them though.

I'd agree though... either make the invasions less common, give them a better storyline, or even lower the average age/danger of the creatures so a wider majority of the characters can engage in it. It's not really much fun trying to help out and just becoming another dead body to deal with.

On a side note, has anyone noticed how people seem to think repeating "I'm healed and ready for a raise. I could use some life. And clerics available to raise me?" every 10 to 15 seconds will actually help their chances to get up sooner? ... People astound me.

If all you care about is not dying and getting as much treasure as possible, yeah, i guess it wouldn't be fun....

Actually the recent Vishmiir invasions are pretty well thought out.. The creatures are anywhere from 1 - late 30's, and since they're literally running around -everywhere-, it prevents elder characters from killing the younger stuff too quick.

But yeah, during the massive invasions with uber level 100+ critters, I just log out and wait for it to blow over. Elanthia will still be there when I get back. : /

Heh. That's why when I'm playing as my cleric, I tell them to knock it off or I won't raise them. That sure shuts them up. reg

Just like almost everything else in Gemstone, the events are what you make them. I've been enjoying the "Afraid of the Dark" invasions because I can actually do something in them. Sometimes I fight, sometimes I attempt rescues, and sometimes I just stand and try to help lifekeep the "incoming"!

There's a lot of things that can get real annoying during invasions, the people attacking everything that moves, the people asking for healing over and over and over... I just move on and look for new trouble to get into.

I also enjoy the challenge and variety of the boxes that the invaders are dropping. Some of the locks have been as low as -10 and as high as -710. The treasure varies too; I had one box last night that had 3000 in coins, 2 uncut diamonds, and a tacky green jacket.

I like things that spice up the routine, and are new and different. I think there's been an attempt to involve almost all ages in the current invasions. It seems like the first wave is for the younger folks, then the next wave is for middle-agers, and the last wave to hit is for the elders. I'm not sure how this quest is going to end, but I appreciate the effort that the staff has made so far.
