I don't think we've mentioned this, so I'll go ahead and do it here. We braught back the Ilyan Cloud for this event because so many people wanted it, but it turned out to be a difficult situation because the Cloud is not like many other vessels in some respects.

So we ended up attaching a second festival so we could split Premium and Prime membership as we had promised, because it wouldn't have worked well to have them mix on the vessel.

Another problem we encountered was that the vessel is full and had no room for new shops. So what we've done is leave all the existing shops open (with a couple exceptions) then we added on a new deck level to the vessel, where we are putting all the new shops.

So the shop listing in FESTIVAL is not quite complete for the Ilyan Cloud. Additionally, you'll find most of the shops still there from the previous event. But don't be confused if you don't find the new shops amongst them. ALL the new shops are on a new deck.

I only had time to check the top deck of the Cloud, but so far, the favorite items seem to be the censers (120K) and the sashes (50K).

Summer reg

do those sashes from the Cloud remove scripts/shows/magic/etc from the pins/charms/medallions?

So how much sleep has anyone gotten this weekend?

Day 3, and currently at 10 hours.

Aerienne reg

The usual. I spent about an hour at the ale festival. I was quite underwhelmed.

God, I hate merchants. What a waste of my time. reg

Morning, sunshine.

I actually had a blast at the Ale festival. Only went for the shops and merchants and wound up blowing most of my money there on some really cool items. I haven't even been to the Cloud yet because I went back to the Landing last night to unload my gear.

Kind of funny though, first day of the festival and you've already got people on the Landing net hawking the items for 2x their original worth.

About the only thing I have issues with are the merchants who set up a shop and don't include a description of the items they sell. Like 'some burnished bronze leathers', they cost 100k but I have no clue what they cover or what enchant they are. They really ought to put a sign up or something (thanks to those that did).
reg

I've only been able to explore the Cloud for a few hours really late at night, and haven't been to the Ale Festival yet.

I'm dying here, I tell ya!

Depending on what you were looking for you didn't miss much.

There was a neat treasure pouch at the ale fest.. anyone grab one? I didn't think they could do treasure anymore, but they only weigh 3, hold 7 items or 5 items. In other words junk.

There was a nice sanctified drakar-spiked mace, but it was only ora. The useful santified weapons all went 600-925k. The falchion selling out quickly.

Other then that I didn't see anything worth buying except a few extra blunt weapons for my locker. The mantles and backpacks and other containers that were sold there didn't close, the mantle weighed 12 pounds backpack weighed 13.

Nope! Pins stay intact! Some pins may still need to be actually worn if they are scripted or use magic, but at least this way they're all in the same place. ::coughsboughttwocoughs:: reg

Just so you all know.. I bought all three paintbrushes at the festival...

... and I'm not afraid to use them! ::cackles madly::

It's been a long time since I have this much fun at a merchant/festival. Usually I'm left with most of my money because most items don't interest me. I literally had to leave because I'm now broke.

Just goes to show you can't please everyone.. however this time I think they pleased most. reg

Anyone know how many uses the brushes hold?

I heard 10 uses...

Cool items? Like what?

I have a throwing net and a dart. That's about it.

Beyond that, merchants suck. If you won't tell me what the item is yourself, (no, my character doesn't trust you or care about your opinon) then I won't buy it. After blowing tons of money on stuff like a 500k jagged vultite warsword, (4x blessable broadsword) I've learned my lesson.

And don't get me started on the scroll. Ugh. reg

I agree, I spent about 300k on useless items.

Merchants aren't for everyone.

I typically don't go to merchants because of the scrolling. Maybe it was because I was having too much fun that I didn't think the scrolling was as bas as it could have been.

Having two festivals running at the same time softened this a bit, believe it or not. Normally I can't go to festivals/merchants on my laptop because I can't keep up. I was doing fine last night for hours as I walked by and shopped and played around.

At the Ale Festival I bought two of the wearable lockpicks (albeit a bit pricey, but considering these are the first wearable lockpicks I've come across, I bought them wholeheartedly), a lion-crested vultite longsword with steam crits (can't wait to test that baby out), three paintbrushes (which I hear they yanked because people complained of the ambush painting.. typical), a few of the brawling weapons for my archer (I had already bought elven bows for her on the ship) and some other things.

Granted the ship got the bulk of my money but that's because I spent the most time there since I was already living in Illistim. My mistake was going to the festival afterwards and beating my head against the keyboard for not having more to spend there. I would have bought more weapons and shields. I was secretly hoping it had nothing but alas I was wrong.

If you go in thinking you hate merchants, you'll still hate it. It's hard to change a hard feeling like hatred or disgust. Same as if you go to a movie thinking you'll hate it. More times than not you'll walk out saying "see I was right.. it sucked". You're closing your mind and wasting a potentially good time.

And you didn't go with me. That was your first big mistake.

I love merchants, I love merchanting.

I almost got an alteration by Claessa?

The only thing I didn't like was that I couldn't use anything there. I have nice containers (the containers there were junk) I have the weapons and shields and armor I need...

What was there for me? Standing around waiting to be picked by a spinner (No luck) or blowing my money on useless stuff, which I did.

I still think it was a good festival, it probably helped the people that needed that stuff, but how many people got nothing out of this? I hope I'm not the only one.

reg

What I found really funny was that while 75 people were standing in a room waiting to get picked by a spinner, I could walk around and get personalized work done by various merchants who had no list, no spinner, and no problem with doing all 5 people who were in the room with them.

Heh...half the fun was that some of the merchant's names were mispelled (I think on purpose) in the festival information, so all the "highlight-hunters" were left out in the cold...although all they really had to do was visit the shops and notice that there was an extra "a" or "i" in the name.

I'll admit, I bought 0 weapons/armor...well I did buy a quoit and some throwing nets...but everything else I bought was fluffy. I think this summer, when I hope they implement breakage, we'll start to see some interesting weapons sold again...for now...I'm content with what I've got already.

I always have a good time at merchanting and shopping events, but then, that is one of my favorite things about Gemstone. You can get so creative with items, and creating an alter or outfit that goes well together.

I am also very good at learning the tricks to increase my chances at getting alters.

I love how the restrictions have been lifted from so many of the alteration rules.

Aerienne reg

Can you tell me what the stats on the bows were?

And are the shops still open?

Buckwheet reg

Shops will remain open thru the week. Some merchants may make appearances as well.

Aerienne reg

Personally, I had a pretty good time. With only 100k to spend, I got myself a tattoo, and was lucky enough to get one of those buttons from Yoarp, as well as walk in on 2 other alterers with only a handful of other people in there. So I would say 2 alters, a button and a tattoo for 75k isn't a bad deal at all. reg

I guess it's all a matter of personal preference then. I found a load of items that would fit some of my characters very well, and most of them were reasonably priced. I also traded in my color-changing armor for some of the heavy vultite plated brigandine. I mostly got pants, boots, cloaks and containers with a couple shields and weapons.

By the way, anyone know of any place to get 4x double leather or 4x full leather? It seems like the shops I visited only had 'leathers' which could be pretty much anything, or they didn't have the enchant listed (mostly both). Asking around on the amunet didn't provide any help.
reg

You glance down to see some ragged forest green leathers in your right hand...

95k, +18 double leathers, 35/290. They're in one of the portals at the Ale Festival. reg

I spent 24m between the Cloud and the Ale Festival.

I rolled up a new guy in Ta'vaalor on my premie account so I'd have a place to store items.. 6m worth of pure junk, that prolly isn't worth 1/4 of what I payed.. got stored there.. I bought it cause I either didn't have one, it looked pretty neat, or thought I might use it for a character I create way down the road.. Like an Archer character.. I bought alot of bows, and archer fluff. Bought alot of plate armors, that were too expensive, almost 1m a piece for 4x full plate, and at least a few hundred k for some 1x full plate..

The other 18m I spent on converting my metal breastplate into full plate. I still wish I could argue with the converter cause I think its done wrong.. But I am happy I got the service done, and have a much more useful set of armor.

PS If you gotta premie account, roll up a giantman rogue in Vaalor, max his dexterity, strength and reflex, so you can carry alot, and have an easier time getting back home. Then use his locker to store all your items, or if you have more than 50.. all the heaviest ones. Then use the direction commands to visit all the key places in Vaalor.. get the exp for lvl 1. Thats two trains that you could have gotten 4 ranks in climbing, and that will allow you to get back to the landing fairly easily. Then you can pay 10k.. yeah 10k to have those items moved from Vaalor to Sol Haven in 24 hours.. great way to move items around if you live in Sol, Landing, or RR. Or you could pay a few more k to move it to another town.. think the moving service caps at 100k reg

Eh, I'm doing a little better now that most people are on the ship.

Found some pants that fit my character, and stocked up on the throwing items - definately going to roll one up now. Got myself another skinning knife, too.

Edit: Of course, the rusted metal flask I go out of my way to buy for the sole purpose of lifekeeping will not allow me to pour a white flask into it. Hello? Can't we wash these things out?

I'm having a blast at the Cloud.

The tale-telling for liquor at Earenor's (sp?), group alteration project at Julla's, Song contests at Meloduys (I'll see if I can dig up an awesome performance by Alarica), watching Vividarium court Clarysa (very well done, I think, he was sitting in her back room yesterday for hours, alone, waiting).

If it's alters you're after, it really isn't all that hard to get them anymore. You need to look at room descriptions very carefully, like Revalos said. Also, look at who is actually in the room, look at their descriptions because some merchants look like regular people, without special titles like "Seamstress", etc.

In terms of items, there were some 4x lightened double leathers, forest green elven leathers, for about 200k, a 5x bow for under 200k (sold out I think). I also heard of 5x leathers but those were sold out very quickly. Censers are fun, but too many people are walking around with those lit, makes it hard to breathe (blood-scented smoke, anyone?). Verrath did amazing alterations with those and played a really cool bad guy.

I also love the books and, of course, the locker manifests. It's really neat that they list all items even if they are inside other items.

Oh, and the pin-worn chemises and blouses! Finally! Now my characters can be properly attired.

I haven't been to the Ale festival yet, but someone got me one of those potion cases, a belt-worn case with all sorts of healing potions, supposedly refillable. Very nice.

Well, that's all for now, but I'm not done with looking through all the shops yet!
