The Warmage

Well, I got into this recently on the official boards, so maybe I could continue it over here.

I consider myself a pure 2 hander, with some magical help. Although I do train as a wizard, I don't train in a lot of skills that 'most' wizards train in. I plan to use a 2-handed weapon for the vast majority of my hunting, with the occasional sleep or Tonis or whatever other helper spell thrown in.

What do all of you think of this path for a wizard? I know some may ask why I follow a path so far from what is considered right for a wizard. I'll just answer that by saying it's fun and different.

I think training as a warmage is taking on a risk. It depends what your goals are as well. A warmage is going to cost you quite a bit of cash to get the right claidhmore, DB items when you're older and you have to keep in mind that warmages are not an intended subclass in GSIII. The upside is... claidhmore and Haste II even with this change to Haste is wild! A warmage has a great attack, but unfortunatly he has low defense as well.

I'm aware of the troubles that 2-handers can have. I've already experienced many of them. I think the biggest is the low bolt DS we have.

As for the nice claidhmore, I took care of that last week when I obtained an old-style imflass claidhmore. Now I need to find some nicely padded scale armor and I should be set though my 40's. I just bought a set of 4x somewhat padded cuirbouilli, so we'll see how that holds up. I'll have the spell hinderance for that trained off in 4 trains at 25.

I realize that the path of a warmage will never be supported by Simu, but I figure as long as it's a viable option, I'll take advantage of it and have some fun.

Well, there is a Polearm using Warmage in the rift...Nanna. She has it pretty tough, but manages. She wears incredibly damage padded armor. Seen her neck break and only take 10 points of damage. Tough tough life yer going to lead. But some people like that type of challenge.

1) Keep up the spell training, yer going to need CS spell in the rift. Stun em with 505, then swing away.

2) Keep up the spell AIMing to. You will be a double threat casting on top of swinging.

3) Don't waste all yer time with mana share. Train only when you got spare points. I didn't get perfect share until 50.

4) Damage padded armor, screw crit padding. Yer going to take hits.

5) Armor use, it would be awesome to see a mage in haubrek. You could do it with a mage. Take a long time, but would be awesome to see.

6) Yer going to need 600 ds in guarded stance on plane 1 in the rift. So, you may need a few db items.

Good luck, only things I could think of for you. Hope it helped you at all.

Nanna also uses some old school Immolation weapon which from what I've seen is often used to stun the critters etc.
