Cone of lightning and... MO

As GP III nears the growing fear amongst wizards is the requirement to train in MO for either cone of lightning or our ball attack spells.

Over on the official boards there have been several people who have posted logs of them hunting in an effort to show that cone of lightning isn't overpowering or unbalancing, but this may not be enough to convince nonwizards or even worse, the GMs. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on cone of lightning and how it should be changed or heck, even if it should be changed.

While I can definitely see the GMs point of view on this, I think the issue could be better resolved if 518 was relocated to 530 or something or cost 10+5(x-1)mana for every monster that is in the room when you cast it.

I actually think there are no problems with 518 as it is...Not surprising that a wizard is saying this. Very rarely now do you ever see a swarm of over 5 or 6 creatures and when you do, it could take possible 3 or 4 cones to kill everyone which is most of your mana.

I really like Lohlem's idea on the official boards to place a room cap in each area where only X amount of creatures can be literally engaged in combat with you at a time.

MO for wizards is a flat out horrible idea. 20/25 for a skill that was designed at first to be used by square type classes is ridiculous for wizards to train efficiently in.

I think cone is kind of overpowered. With many critters...an ewave then cone...is capable of stunning every critter in the room, which is pretty intense.

Wizards shouldn't have to train in MO though.
