Is it worth it?

Alright... I started this game awhile ago(year or so), and after about a month I realized my characters were all trained wrong. I got into asking everyone about how they did things, what to train in, how to place stats. At the time I got alot of different answers. I knew I wasnt going to get anywhere. So.. I got into buying and selling characters. I had a character before me, I could see him and how he was trained. I could take him out hunting. See what worked and what was pointless. See how he held up.. Or didn't and then get vaporized.
I've learned alot since that first month. But I still don't know everything. I haven't realized every possibility before me.

But.. What I want to create now is something I havent run across before.. At least not at high lvls. My idea, is an common one. To make a war-wizard who is more physical than normal. But doesn't leave out any of the magical essence of being a wizard. 80% of the war-wizards I have seen are singled in spells. Usually giants for the strength benefit. I wanted to have a fairly regular wizard, singled in shield, edged, doubled in spells and spell aiming. As well as having all the other usual skills in some amount like scroll reading, MIU etc.. But I also want to be able to wear brigindine armor, and be FULLY singled in CM. not 0.5x or 1x with 1x in spells. AS I was creating my new wizard I really felt it was possible to do this. Right now Im just getting over a period where I was not hunting or creating anything.. I just sat in the game and bummed around. Merchanting or dueling.. Whatever caught my fancy. Heres the wizard I started about half a year ago.. Hes been rerolled numerous times since then, and this will be the last or second to last time he is rerolled. If this doesnt work I will skip the CM and go for a fairly normal wizard.

If I could get opinions, and insight into this training regimen I would be deeply grateful. I don't want to waste my time just to get to lvl 60 or higher and see that.. It just isnt going to work.

I was wondering if anyone had a helpful program that could calulate the training points I would get at each level.. Not just the stats. I could do it all one lvl at a time and figure it all out. But it took me a long long time to do the same thing for my rogue. If there is a program.. I think it would make my life and everyone elses who does this kinda stuff alot easier.

Any help would be appreciated. reg

I think thats a pretty cool wizard, although i dont what yer doin trainin in perception for that early on.... Another note as tps come available i strongly suggest you eventually start singling in armor cause as a swinger id recommend only brig or better
Just a few thoughts reg
The Aura and Dis is killing your TPs. They count towards both you Physical and Mental TPs. Did you check out a stat growth chart?

Amerlise's site has a stat growth checker that will tell you TPs as the level grow.

I posted the link somewhere on these boards...hehe. Good luck in finding it.

Your idea for a wizard is possible, and already exists at post legend levels in GS.

Sonic reg

I'm trying to find the old e-mail I have from Suvar on how to train a half-elf wizard. Although I can't seem to find it.

He trained in physical training every 5 trainings. 1 spell every level. 1 stalking/hiding. 1 Shield. 1 Armor. I believe he was getting an ambushing training every other level or every 3 levels.

I'll try to find it and post it. reg

As to perception... I felt being fully singled was needed. Not only for disarming my own boxs later when I get some disarming ranks, but for spotting those pesky hiders and the thiefs. I will most likely never be able to single in armor. But I do still plan on getting a rank whenever I can, eventually getting into brig. (Haven't really thought about going to hauberk as it would hurt everything else I am doing.)

Every stat was placed for maximum stat growth. Although I am not getting as many TPs as I need right now, I will be getting much more later in life.. Instead of having stats stuck at 50 my whole life, they will all be high Maxing before I hit the Lvl Cap.

Also, Alfador. Do you know any wizards who have this type of training plan and who would be willing to talk to me? I would love to get in contact with anyone who has a lvled wizard with this training pattern.

Omni, the training pattern Suvar had was not something that interested me. I have seen his character.. and wasn't really impressed. I think as a wizard doubling in spells is mandatory, and tripling wouldnt be a bad idea. Also hiding/ambushing isnt something I plan to do with a hunting wizard. Just wouldnt be any good at all in my opinion.

Thanks for the help guys! I really appreciate it and I still look forward to more insight. reg

Don't worry about the perception right now. You can sacrifice that. I got like 60 ranks myself and 14 ranks of disarm. At 114 I can see all traps with a couple tries. I disarm with 408 mainly up to -340.

I didn't max out my mana share until 50. That is no big deal.

Get armor use. I am personally going to chain so I can survive a hit. If you are going to swing in the rift you will need to be able to survive a hit.

double in spells. I think I have only 3 triples and can hunt effectively with 409 and 415 in the rift. I been hunting that way for so long I can't tell you what my bolt is anymore. The plane I hunt also. I can't kill anything with my bolt.

the CvA for higher armor is going to really help in the rift to. Right now I get a 50% chance of being warded with dissipation up and brig on. I even use a td shield once in a while.

Maybe EN will have something that a mage can swing at.

edge

reg

Yea, what specifically do you want to know?

Sonic reg

I most likely wont be swingin in the rift, as I doubt I can swing high enough. I am training this way not only to swing, but also for defense, and to dodge CM based stuff much better. I will swing at least half my life though. Once I get up to the higher levels I anticipate having to use every method available to me to hunt. Bolts, CS, and swingin. I would think with 3 ways to hunt I could hunt anything with ease.

What I was looking for was an opinion on whether he is possible, and if possible, whether it is worth it to try and do it this way. Edge pointed out a site with a program that should help, but I haven't looked for that site yet. Hopefully that program should make it easier for me to come up with an idea about whether this guy can fully single in Cm, fully double in spells and spell aiming etc.. And still get the small skills that are a very necessary part of being a wizard.

I guess it basically comes down to:

Do I try it this way?

Or... Do I scrap CM, and try to triple in spells or get more physical skills. Or go a totally different way. What makes the best wizard? reg

The best wizard is someone you enjoy playing.

How come all your secondary skills are so low? You seem to almost foregone everything else. Were you really lacking the TP's? reg
At first yes. Obviously, the younger you are, the less TPs you have. I put my 'schedule' above all: 1x edged, shield, cm, 2x spell aim. Next I put my focus on Mana Sharing and PT. Both of these are relatively costly, at 0/7 and 8/0. Since I couldn't single those for awhile, it took quite a few years to max them, and get enough armor. Then I needed to get climbing and swimming and since I had a few mind points left over I decided that I'd eventually reach .5x or .75x percep, miu, scroll reading. As the TPs become more and more plentiful, and things like PT and MS are out of the way, this is the age where a CM wizard will start to go beyond the necessary and start getting more wizardly skills. reg
How did you hunt mostly after say lvl 15? Did you use a sword? or spells? If spells which ones? What stuff did you hunt? Were you solo, or have help?
reg
I've been able to solo all the way through, but I get a lot of spells from clerics. The first place I've pretty much had to use casting is in Bonespear. Haste hunting is a great thing. I would occassionally use a major bolt or major fire, but definitely relied on the sword. reg
