I think no padding chain is as good as heavy crit padded brig. But crits or CM attacks will tear you up. Also acid raped me in the chain. But any type of crit padding in a torso set of chain will be so much better the brig with heavy padding.

What do you think?

edge reg

From those shots alone, I'd recommend the brig. It'd be nice if you could get a good amount of manuever attack demonstrations such as boil, thorn, etc. Perhaps then the chain will really shine.

Sonic reg

the brig was obviously better what u need is some crit padded hauberk

Unless things have changed since I last checked, the chain will be horrendus compared to the brig in manuever attacks.

When I last looked at it - this may not be the way it is now, but i haven't heard of a change yet - manuever attacks still computed damage by the old armor mechanics. That is, if you're wearing torso chain, your torso is covered in chain, and everything else in uncovered. Instead, everything else now works like brig, rather than skin.

My warrior would wear an augmented breastplate when he hunted in Varunar. If a roa'ther burrowed his leg, it'd get knocked clean off and a huge stun. Head or neck, he'd be dead. If it burrowed his chest/arm, i'd get an average hit, maybe a medium.

I'd love to hear any evidance one way or the other, however.

-Gnomad, here and there. reg

It really all depends on where you are hunting... but Zent was right about hauberk if you can get some. I have played warriors and rogues quite a bit - the difference between it and brig, or even crit padded brig, is insane. And if it works on the armor conversion where torso chain gives you chain on the torso and brig on the limbs, i'd wear the chain.

I have had all sorts of armors. But I am taking hits nonstop in the rift. Almost done with plane 3 so voids will not be a factor. No manuever attacks on plane 4 or 5.

N'cares do tackle and swing jeddart-axes, heavy crit weighted falchions. I have to wrack just to come close to filling my mind. So I am always low on spirit. So I kinda think the chain would be best for me.

The CvA is a huge help to. Wizards get torn up by CS attacks in the rift. I found some td bonus chain and a got a td shield. So it may help me a bunch in the long run. Now I need a td weapon!

Just curious since reading the thread "Physical Wizard" more questions about ideal wizard armor have come up, so I was wondering what do you all think about wizards in heavy armor now?
At this moment Anticor is in 6x full leather, he is only 24 so anything he hunts cant hit him unless it is a boil or some other attack like that.
Just want to know what you all would reccomend, I have some polished mithril brig that I might put on when once I get the armor ranks for it. reg
It really depends on where you hunt. If you are going to get hit my manuever attacks mainly. You need padding. But brig beats the hell out of leathers any day of the week.

The problem with torso chain is the rarity of padding. Maybe a dozen padded torso chains exist in the lands. But if for some reason you could train to hauberk(110 ranks). You would be a god. heh.

I am the only wizard that has trained for chain so far. But I wear it on Plane 4 in the rift and if I ever hunt in EN I will wear it. 9% hindrance isnt anything when you got 360 mana.

edge reg

I could of sworn torso chain has lower manuever penalty than full scale brig. I looked at charts at Juspera's and Kulbaen's.

It would make sense too since you can move more freely your extremeties.

I know for a fact that Leather breastplate is more manueverable than double leather. I am pretty sure that same test holds true for even metal breastplate compared to chain hauberk.

Whoever said hauberk, boy that would be huge magic hindrance for a wizard to train off and even then it would be hard to cast with natural resistance.

Lastly, I don't think people are taking into accoutn the FIX to the armor bug. No longer does torso only provide the protection it used to on other parts of the body.

Hiway reg

<< I could of sworn torso chain has lower manuever penalty than full scale brig. I looked at charts at Juspera's and Kulbaen's. >>

Maneuver penalties are actually very SMALL. The difference between someone totally naked and someone fully trained for full plate and wearing it are too insignificant.

In regards to how armor helps against maneuver attacks... unless the armor is padded it don't do squat. Heavily crit padded robes are better against boil earth than full plate. Heavily padded full plate is better than nonpadded robes.

Now the catch is that padded partial armor will only provide the crit padding against maneuver attacks on parts that they cover. This USED to be recognized as a bug, but Ophion has said that he now sees this as a feature (how awkward that one day it's a bug and the next it's a feature).

So heavily padded brig will protect better than heavily padded chain against maneuver attacks only because you get the heavy padding all over your body wearing brig, and only heavy padding on your torso in chain.

- Lord Kranar, human Archwizard reg

I'm not talking about protection when hit. I am talking about avoiding having the manuever hit you at all.

You will dodge more manuevers with light leather compared to plate no matter what the training.

Hiway reg

<< You will dodge more manuevers with light leather compared to plate no matter what the training. >>

They are actually tied together in one roll, this much is known.

The roll that determines IF you get hit also determines how hard you get hit, kind of like being attacked, your AS determines if you hit and how hard you hit.

In regards to maneuver penalty, the more of a maneuver penalty the armor gives, the higher this hidden end roll will be. But the penalty is so small it's insignificant and not worth considering when deciding what armor to wear.

- Lord Kranar, human Archwizard reg

Welp, I finally made up my mind about chain. It's better for a mage. Why?

Brig has a CvA of +8 and Chain has a -6 CvA....that is 14 better td for chain. Now 14 td is life or death to me. EN has proven that to me beyond a doubt.

But sorry to say. I am not the first trained for it. Demiloa has been fully trained for a while now.

edge reg

How many armor ranks for a wizard to be fully trained for torso chain?

Based on the training I have now I will be fully trained for brig at 61, 30 ranks, and I can single from 62 on. That means at 110 I would only have 78 ranks of armor. If there is no way for me to be fully trained for it I will stop armor at 61 and put those points towards CM or something else.

Anticor Rifling, Giantman Wizard reg

Fully trained for brig is 35 ranks, not 30.

Sonic reg

50 ranks for torso chain reg
35 ranks I stand corrected.

50 ranks for chain, I think I can do that gonna be a year or three though but hell I am patient, thank you.
