Familiar gate

I am about to get my FG spell, and was wondering how to gate. I know how to use a familiar rather well, but what's the action for gating with a familiar? (tell familiar to <?> ). And how can it fail, and what are the reprecusions from a failed gate? Any and all information is appreciated, thanks!

Send a familiar to whatever location, prep 930, and one of two things happens:

You get terribly hurt.

You open up a mist and can walk through it.

Now age plays the biggest role when gating. When you first get it, unless you have crit padded armor it can hurt you severly. This goes away at around 50-60 trainings when you won't be failing any casts, and at 100 trainings you will never miss a cast.

It's my third favorite spell and one I make use of constantly. Of all the standard teleport abilities, familiar gate is definitely number one.

So do I need just 30 trains in wizard circle? Or should I go up to 50 trainings cause it will help with the spells in the circle (boil earth, gate, etc)? Also I heard of a possible level 50 wizard spell in the future? I'm just not sure where to go (or how far to go) in the wizard circle.

Yea, well I've also heard of a possible sorcerer spell called demonic summoning, but that sure as hell isn't happening. At like 60+, your chances of a successful familiar gate are high with only 30 ranks of spells.
