Anyhoo.. you can try squirrels or goblins. Hobgoblins can get a little tough, but cave gnolls and gnomes are good too. reg

You're not going to be casting at much of anything yet. Stick to rats, at least they won't kill you. reg

I hunted rats until 8, and then with society help I started on thief gnolls (which are no longer around), mants and thraks until 12. I was a human though, as a halfling it will be more difficult. See if you can get your weapon blessed and try mummies.
