You can cast area effect magic and the like. Call lightning a box open if you want. Just don't kill someone. reg
That was September 28-29th, those things are still missing today because Mikos has been doing nothing but fixing bugs in forging.
I don't want to get on the Solhaven is always forgotten soapbox again, but it sure is hard to deny.

See, I don't subscribe to that point of view. If they had wanted Solhaven to depopulate the landing they would have made the trip at least as hard as the trip to Icemule. By making it a 30 second script away, what did they think they'd accomplish?
[i[Since so few folks moved, they have no reason to keep trying.[/i]
I agree with that, I think that's the key element. They see no reason to have any GM interaction whatsoever in a place with so few non-AFK people.
I got what I wanted with the banaltra in the zoo. Everything else is just bonus.
I did like the Banaltra, but there were a lot of people who didn't. I think a more widely applicable storyline would bring a lot more people into it. According to the last post by Melissa, Solhaven will be actively worked on in 2002, and will have a storyline. One can only hope.

Only problem with that is, most invasions seem to have that one or two extremely old creatures running around, and there arent exactly a bunch of old coots in haven to deal with them. It kinda takes away from the town if we have to bring help in from the landing (ie like with the spiders and the big banaltra, whatever it was called).

A big change I would suggest is just general layout. Take a gander at a map and see how convuluted it is to get to many hunting areas. Plus many younger hunting areas are behind enemy lines so to speak of harder critters. I think a lot of hunting goes to waste in that area.

All bard songs will be done by Simucon '98.
I hope they have more undead in that area. Open up the cascade of tears, that'd be very interesting. reg

I think it would help alot if an invasion or two hit there (I mean one not involving landingers). -Gruenbak
Heck, make it a local threat kind of invasion, like have some swarthy pirates come around beating on people around town...make it like ten or so, each of them like the Bregendians (names and such), spread them out, and you've got a nice local invasion with a storyline to boot. Three invasions in Solhaven that I know of (other than Something Wicked...) Shan huntmasters, spider queen, and the banaltra when the baby banaltra escaped from the cage. That's 3 in 3 years...kinda slow if you ask me.

See above for a good invasion style, make the majority of invaders 20-40, with some leaders from 40-65. That would fit most everyone in Solhaven (cept Songie of course).
It doesn't need to be a difficult invasion, just one with a story.
I would throw in some element of time also for Solhaven or maybe a item requirement like River's Rest and the crystal amulets. -Hiway
Problem is really the distance from Landing on the world map. It really isn't that far and there are no geographical obstacles (mountain ranges, lakes, rivers, etc...) to slow someone down. However, you are crossing into the Empire, so why can't there be a border crossing?
Put up an outpost somewhere up the trail, maybe just south of the Stepfalls. Make people pay a fee to enter and attach some RT. Make it possible for a series of random things to happen, like maybe one of the guards thinks you're some sort of spy and puts you in a cell for about 30 minutes until the head guard checks you out and decides to free you, or make the gates locked during certain times (like invasions, or local events). Doing things like that would make it much more of a community.
Another big problem is also that too many places require foggers to get people out of. In a small town, that hurts. -Gnomad
Agreed. I see no reason really why someone couldn't be dragged from Shan to the coastal road. That is something that probably won't change though.
I hope they have more undead in that area. Open up the cascade of tears, that'd be very interesting. -Gnomad
I doubt there will be more undead, Solhaven has one of the better Undead age ranges of most places. You've got undead up to 36 or so (shades), and then whole loads of undead in the 50-60 range (dybbyks and eidlodons). Varunar is also nearby.
According to the rumors that have floated around for a while, the work that will be done on Solhaven next year will be concentrated on finishing the city (South Haven), making the city a newbie drop point, and opening some of the closed things in the existing town (library, resturant, townhouse). New hunting areas are far far on the horizon. We could be pleasantly suprised...or we could become Bardspellsonghaven.
Ok...that was long, but its nice to see posts here again.

I was referring more to its history. The almost entirity of its first settlement was massacred. By some unknown forces. I'd like to see the murdered haunt some area as well. Hence, the opening of the cascade. reg
Actually, I'd rather see the whole dwarven caves/Kracken massacre thing fleshed out. The Wildwood island fortress masacre was different due to the magical nature, I'd think there'd be magic creatures there, but it'd still be cool with undead.

Well, I don't have to leave now since it'll be a while before I outhunt the tower, but it would still be nice to have.
