I don't care if you're impressed or not it's just a swarm we were playing with.

Geesh, someone is PMSing today.

I thought it was a pretty neat post. reg

It gets a little unimpressive when we see the same type of thing 10 posts later. ::shrugs:: reg
whats the deal with this impressive business

if I wanted to impress you all I'd just wail and moan a lot and try real hard to argue my points since that seems to be what you like around here

I'm merely showing that swarms are uncommon in the rift, and when you do get them, they're fun to play with.

Do you want me to TRY and impress you? Because I will. I'll go get my hauberk, head up to 2 and behead some Vvrael witches with Zent.

I'll log a hunt of Jaeden beheading stuff on plane 1, AMBUSHING with 0 ranks of ambush.

I'll fry Zentalin off exclusively 111ing Csetairis.

I can do all this without the help of either character, with no help of special items, etc.

The fact is, I can do a whole lot of stuff in the rift if you'd like to be impressed.

But then again, I don't care. I'll continue posting things that amuse me. I'll keep posting things that some people may enjoy.. I like adding a different facet to these relatively BORING boards.

So if you don't have anything nice to say, try to be constructive at least with your posts and not make it any more boring and slow-paced.

Eventually, you'll run off people who's original intention was positive..and you keep hitting them with a barrage of negative energy.

-Zentalin reg

My POINT was that if you have all the right to post all these logs about you killing creatures (a pretty BASIC part of Gemstone.. we all do it.. big whoop), I also have all the right to say they're not a big deal to read anymore.

And there's no need to impress me. As long as you're impressing yourself, that's all that matters. reg

If you're so bored by my performance in the rift..

Can you do any better?
-Zentalin reg

Look Zent, have all the fun you want in the rift. This is not a competition thing.

IDEALLY, it would be nice to read posts that are different, out of the ordinary, and conversations about it. Logs of killing a creature that MANY people do will NEVER impress me and will ALWAYS bore me. But that's MY opinion.

If you don't care how people feel about your posts that you say you'll continue to do anyway, what do you care how I feel about it? Let me rant and you go on posting your logs of lunatic runins. Sheesh. reg

sounds like a good idea
hoho

I'll disagree with you on that post.

I doubt I will ever get to see the rift and these posts give me a good idea of what it's like at that level.

I would also argue the fact that a majority of the people that play GS aren't able to play in the rift. That area is only open to a select few who have put in the time to get to that level. reg

I don't see how a snippet of a death blow of a disabled creature helps in any way to paint a picture of what the rift is like.

The most interesting log i've seen of the rift was the big log on amerlise's site when they were getting the grand tour of plane 1 from starsnuffer i think it was.

Zent, until you quit bragging about your stats and going "GOD plz" every ten seconds, people will continue to view you as a 8 year old kid going "mommy, look what i can do".

Hehe, do those. -nods-

I like seeing logs and such too...I just want to see something different that hasn't (edited has for hasn't, heh) been done before...or at least isn't done as often.

I like seeing swarm logs too. This log would have been better if you'd have killed them all by yourself because it would have been neat to see the lunatics fight back while you were doing the neccesary things to get ready for your strike rather than having them slept.

That m-strike example someone said is something like that. While you were in that roundtime, the two or two that weren't killed off the bat would have attacked back. It would have been neat if it hit you a few times while in roundtime to near death, and then having you come back from near-death killing it...killing them all. Woohoo!

If it makes your heart race and jump up and down in your seat with excitement, then I wanna see it!

- Pudgee

PS - This log was still neat, nonetheless.

I'll have cooler stuff soon.

I won't respond to kelood because his post was not constructive.

I only did that 20 sec. mstrike because Jenovadeath was backing me up.. I wouldn't have done it otherwise.

-Zentalin reg

I also agree...

I'd prefer to see the logs of you doing stuff like that on Plane 2. Most people who hunt the rift know that Plane 1 isn't meant to be a challenge, it's an introduction to the rift and its purpose is only to introduce the environment.

The harder stuff comes on planes 2-5, most notably 5.

But heck... if you can show some logs of doing neat stuff like that on things on plane 2, 3, or 5, I'd be very interested and impressed to see those.

Seeing logs of Plane 1 may impress those who have never seen the rift, but to those who know about the area it's nothing special, I mean even empaths can go wild there.

You may feel Kelood was unconstructive, however, he does echo the sentiments of more than a few here.

You may not be trying to impress anyone but that _is_ how you come off. And the ones that impress the least are those that try too hard.

So...if you are not trying to alienate people you may wish to consider adjusting your posting style.

Of course, you may not wish to do so as well.

As far as the rift goes I've never been there and most likely never will so I do look forward to logs in general of how the different creatures there can attack and defend. Hope to see some neat ones soon.

reg

I've noticed a way I can get the rift to swarm a lot it's pretty cool, but people usually end up dying.. basically I just run around the plane and kill everything as fast as I can.. Jaeden implodes all the living and Zentalin repels all the naisircs..

We could probably hunt forever on our mana supply so after a while they start massing up like 4-5 creatures in 1 room on a line in the pyramid. (1 is shaped like a big pyramid)
-Zent reg

I like being able to sit back and look at both sides:

I enjoy any rift logs because that is a goal, a whisper in the night. I like the teamwork Zent uses, granted its him but still it works. Sure after awhile it gets boring but he can't affect that he logs his hunts.

On the other hand they do seem redundant and braggish. But hell who doesn't like to toot their own horn?
I have some interesting logs of Anticor and Celember hunting gargoyles. You think big whoop, but to me a wizard hunting a magically immune critter 5 trains over his head is cool. I might post them and you could say cool log, or so what you had a friend help you, or big deal, shoot some of you might say they still have gargoyles, its been years since I hunted those .
Bottom line post what makes you happy, attack the idea not the person. (Still think my tactic of going invisible and ambushing gargoyle heads as a giantman wizard is just cool even if Celember was leggin em.)

------------------
Anticor Rifling, Giantman Wizard reg

Zent and Jaeden absolutely destroy 1, as I'm sure they will destroy 2, 3, 4, and 5. Clerics and sorcs really do have a cake walk from what I've seen in the rift... Sorcs through their whole lives. Wizards have, up until rift been pretty good. They can easily do teras, second only to sorcs. But they are probably the worst rift hunters. On 1 at least from like 90-97(probably higher), a reasonably trained empath hunts better. I've seen rogues do real well too, rangers and warriors also don't SEEM to have any show stoppers that wizards don't have (TD). I've yet to see a bard hunting up here though... I'd imagine they do fairly well with the song of noise, but who knows.

And for everyone that says sorcs have it tough, try playing one that is better than 0.4x spell aim and you'll see that FI destroys virtually everything in one or two casts.

Sonic reg

<< But they are probably the worst rift hunters. >>

As I've said... this is all about Plane 1, which anyone can hunt.

Planes 2, 3, 4 and 5 rangers drop dead, bards run to the Elven Nations, empaths don't dare touch. After that it's clerics who have it the best in there, sorcerers who have it second best, warriors and rogues who have it third best, and then wizards. They're the best because they can actually hunt in there, get experience, get treasure and do all of it without godly items extreme frustration or anything special.

Wizards aren't given enough credit in the rift, probably because not many wizards in the rift are "newage" so to speak, it's mostly only the old school poorly trained wizards hunting in there and so you hear them cry on the BBS like crazy about how they suck.

But ever see a wizard with 35 fully charged blue crystals major shocking everything with a 540 AS? 3 shots maximum and the critter with the most blood in all of elanthia (caedera with 520 HP) drops dead just from blood loss. And as for the time it takes to charge 35 blue crystals? 5 blue crystals in 20 minutes all alone just by mana leeching seekers, glaecei, and critters out in pinefar that swarm or finding other places to mana leech.

The worst professions hunting the rift are rangers, then bards, then empaths. They are the worst because they can't handle it without some type of godly unusual item and even with a godly item they have it worse than the professions listed above.

- Lord Kranar, human Archwizard

[This message has been edited by LordKranar (edited 03-18-2002).] reg

I wouldn't say clerics are the best on plane 3. Last I knew they had trouble warding N'ecare if they were likeage. With aivren and warlocks, I'd have to give 3 to the rogues/warriors.

I don't know what your smoking, but to say something like that it must be good.

Icerolose had 1x spell aiming, his implodes were fairly nice, but in no way could you say he tore things up. At lvl 122 hunting planes 4 and 5, he sometimes had to hit lost souls half a dozen times before they died. And vaespilons.. the oh so critable delights of the rift.. He couldn't always implode them in one shot either.

Zvarn was the same way on plane 1, he had over 1x spell aiming, and had to hit things most times with around 2-3 casts of 720.

Also, if I have ever complained about sorcerers in rift, it wasn't about how well they kill, it was how hard it is to survive. TD is just something that doesnt mean jack on plane 5. You get warded 80% of the time, if they cast at ya. Clerics are the only ones with half a chance to ward vaespilons.

Defense could be a problem too. Try hunting 5 with 4x gear, and almost half your trains worth in ranks of shield use. reg

Since the downtweaking of the voids and witches bolts. The rift is not the hard. plane 5 is a breeze for a mage.

But keep posting your logs Zent. Some people like to read em.

Defense on plane 5 is not a problem..if you are dying from a vaesp swinging a quaterstaff at a little over 500, then I'm confused. I used to hunt that plane lying down on the ground in the room right outside the heart. ALl you have to do is perform some sort of attack taht will cause the vaesp to be stunned...then it is at your mercy. Its their implodes and DC that are issues, easy solution is to not let them prep and cast.

Mike

Ralix
reg

Vaespilons swinging aren't the problem I was speaking of. Its lost souls. Either way, I don't care if its a fist.. something hitting you with a high end roll is going to stun you if you wear full leather. Stun is something you almost never recover from unless its a real short one. reg
Full leather stinks. Brig should be worn by all characters hunting plane 3-4 in my opinion.

On the subject of swarms, the gen in the rift seems much better lately.. i've figured out how to make it swarm how I like. Plane 1 is nice because by the time you make your way to one end, creatures have already genned on the other and you never run out of things to kill.
-Zentalin
reg

Agreed that leather class armor totally sucks, but its an effective armor on plane 5 where you really face no threat of getting hurt by a swing, its just the spells. I wore robes on 5, even though I was trained for brig. 5 is ridiculously easy with the slow gen rate, you could lie in the room outside the heart and just set a script to implode/boil/thorn/repel. If I was alone up there, I'd do my reading for class and set a sound for when a vaesp entered, I'd just hit an F9 key 1 or 2 times and it would be boiled to death. Its a shame that that plane became a joke, in my opinion with the release of the Elven Nations, they should increase the gen rate on 5, because now squares don't have to hunt 5, and probably shouldn't hunt 5 unless they are volners.

Mike

Ralix reg

I agree with mike's post.. good insights.

I think they need to re-review the rift, and design it to Aephir's original intent.. I think it's been tweaked a little much to accomodate some slower hunters, but now with EN out, the changes are un needed.
-Zentalin reg

Leathers are best for sorcerers in my opinion.. training for brig is a waste.

Also the gen rate on 5 was never slow when I was there. I got swarms all the time.. half the critters entered with spells prepped.
I also had fear from vaespilons at 122, a bad modem connection, and I don't script hunt.

Everytime I went to plane 5, Id get combos of attacks like 3 critters coming in (somtimes more).. one casting e-wave, and a few if not all casting dispell, or vaespilons casting implode.. or Torment and mind jolt. DC was nasty too.

Dispells always seemed to get 102, 150 or 425. reg

If what you say is true, I'm glad to hear it, but when I was up there it was really slow going. Even the way you described it, is nothing compared to what it was in the beginning, maybe Magister would be willing to share his plane 5 experiences when it would swarm like crazy.

Mike

Ralix reg

I have no problem on 5 and I wear chain most of the time as a mage. I never die from a swing, even a soul swing.

Also, I have yet to see a monster walk into a room with a prepped spell at all. Souls gen with ewave prepped sometimes, but never move with a prepped spell. Which should be no problem if you are not encumbered. But Vaesp I have never seen gen with a prepped spell ever.

Just sit in the center room. Kill em when they enter. The only way I die is when I am walking around.

5 is kinda a joke anymore. I cast firecloud in the center. It stuns the Vaesps and the souls avoid coming into the room because of the cloud most of the time. Souls don't have much blood so 415 kills em fast. Vaesps you can ewave with ease and boil or whatever you want to em.

I die because Summir wants to blind the Vaesp before I kill them to get a bit of learning from them. So once in a while they get a cast off.

Hell, I go inviso and pop boxes on the plane and nothing finds me...heheh

edge reg

I cannot WAIT for the machines to hit 5. It's gonna be over..

Here endeth the lesson... reg

That's hilarious. reg
Clerics ward vaesps easily. reg
The highest Vaesps get is 574 td and as low as 519 for clerical spells. They average is around 530s.

edge reg

Whats your TD edge? Also do you have any TD items?

Sonic reg

LOL quiethorne!

Those mages suck, they get boring after a while. I had Zent in the sphere all spelled up, and the mage tried to boil me from hiding but I dodged, so I binded him and took his head off, and he came back with a vengance, probably level 300, and his TD was like 1000 and he boiled me and I didn't even die it did like 175 damage, I had 3 HP left and unstunned and did sign healing, he boiled me again and it failed but I got a long stun so he did it again and I finally died..it was lame.

But the last time was better when the GM went ape s*it.. He at least let me get some kills in. One time, I went in the sanct and put up all my spells plus 513, and I invoked 907 off a scroll and ran out of the sanct, Jaeden quaked the mage and I bolted it's head off with 470 spell AS.. Then he got mad, and began boiling.. I kept getting these 1 round stuns off the boil and I'd unstun easy and I did sign healing till I had 2 spirit then I just ran into the sphere, waited for SP and darknessed out cuz I had like a rank 3 on every body part.

The weirdest thing happened too.. I got burrowed by one of those worms, and I ran into the sphere to see what would happen, and the goddamnn thing unburrowed IN the sphere, and it hit me too, I always dodge those. So anyway, I get up and it burrows again, so I run north a bunch of times and I'm in the heart of nothingness..the stupid thing pops out while i'm IN the heart of nothingness and nearly kills me, and is attacking me all the while. I was wondering if it had burrowed again, could I have brought it into the rift!
-Zent reg

I just have to say i love plane 5. Vaesp's can ward me though about 80% of the time, maybe more at 127 trains i just can't allow them to cast at me. I blind and then repel. Souls are a breeze. I never get edge killed unless i missed a soul coming in or something, we get ewaved and then casted at. I can survive their implosions about 50% of the time. I'll see about posting some of our hunt next time something fun and out of the ordinary happens. Plane 1 is a cake walk, 2 sucks. Someone said 3 was hard for clerics, not true. Although N'ecare's are tougher to ward then Soul's i had no problem with 3 at all.

Summir reg

That invasion in the rift has been done a number of times. They really should come up with something else. It was fun the first few times though being turned into stone or burst into flames with no chance of warding sucked. And the GM's love chasing down and killing edge, gotta laugh at that. Poor Edge.

Summir reg

My td is just over 500. Vaesp ward me be about 150% of the time... Torment gets me real good. I have never survived a implosion at level 123 yet.

I used td items only on 2. I had about 3x in td I think it was. Helped big time with Seras. I could get 10x in td items and still be 100% warded by Vaesps everytime on 5. So I don't bother with it anymore.

But, I found moving to chain gave me a huge boost in CvA (-6) which is great. I will be wearing that in EN for sure if I can't hold enough spells to boost my td enough. That is if I ever go to EN.
