Dateline 2/20/2001: INNKEEPERS TO RENOVATE TABLES

The Innkeepers Guild, in conjunction with the Cooperative Houses of Elanthia have issued the following statement:

On 4 Charlatos 5101, all tables within Inns and Houses will begin extensive remodeling. In addition to sanding, waxing, and polishing, our work crews will be, by popular demand, removing the impediments that prevent many citizens from using a table. Many people have expressed extreme displeasure at being unable to get a table frequently during the day, causing intense frustration and loss of revenue for the Inns.

These changes will hopefully alleviate many concerns our customers have had. The Guild would like to take the opportunity to remind you, for your safety, the only private areas are closed, latched rooms, and we thank you for your patronage.

So now anyone can walk up to your table.

Would it be so hard to code it, to make it when you 'go table' you go to something similar to a major sanct? A generic room decription and an exit of out. I think not.

What a way to cripple something...

I can't think of a better way they could have chosen to alienate the entire population in one stroke.

If you can find it... Good luck!

*you hear a voice whisper, "HINT: He surrounds his home with furballs that attack you if you stay standing in one place for too long."*

I see it differently. They made it more realistic and if the people abuse it then it just shows you the maturity level of the normal elanthian.

I personaly hate game mechanics that artificially restrain people. Common courtesy and good manners are near extinct. reg

I always thought you went to a private table to be with someone privately. I don't pay the premie price to own my own home... So the tables is where I went to get my groove on....

Don't seem too bad to me... They just act like the nook and the like now. All's not lost.

Anyone else experiencing large quantities of weirdos wandering from table to table, either looking for a victim to bug or a place to sleep?

I agree that it added realism to the game, whereby if you were in a restaurant, you would have the ability to go over to anyone's table. I do think that considering the number lockable rooms, that removing the private nature of tables was a very poor decision.

Personally, I am tired of people running in and taking things that are on the floor, such as boxes I am preparing to pick, or deciding that I am the perfect person to come slap around when IRL my brother is telling me thru IRC that my father has pneumonia and is in the hospital. Kinda hard to pay attention to the game and actually be IC when stuff like that is going on. The most pathetic thing about it was that the people doing this to my character were in their 90s and 100s.

Time to buy a house.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I also think you may have touched on the reason behind the change to the private table system. Before the change, tables used to be a very convenient place to retire to after a hunt, or if you just wanted to kick back with a friend. Privacy was the most appealing aspect of a public table. So why was it necessary to own a house? They were great for roleplaying, but that was about it. The absence of private tables means more houses and thusly more premium accounts. Such is the corporate side of things. Down with Simu.

Actually, I like the new changes. I guarantee they were changed because of an enormous amount of people that just simply went to a table and went afk. I'm sure simu monitored this and made the change based on what they saw. At least now those of you with houses can say you didn't waste your money and be truthful.

3 months later, and witness all the alienation and destruction this monumental cataclysm of social life in Elanthia that Simutronics has wrought.

or alternatively, some folks overreacted just a *tad*. reg
