Sneak Peek of the New FE

03:26 PMIt doesn't just look cool. It IS pretty cool.

It has a lot of nice features, including downloading person/critter/area pictures on the fly. It downloads a small thumbnail automatically - click on it and you get the full sized picture.

It logs different windows separately - with higlighting intact!

Lots of other neat features, too.

All of your preferences - highlight lists, sounds, scripts, whatnot - are stored on the GS server, NOT on your local PC. So, you can go play on any computer anywhere and have all your settings. However, they won't have the ability to transfer your existing WIZARD highlights and settings to the new front end, at least not on day 1. For people with thousands of highlights, that could be an issue.

The new website is pretty cool too. AMongst other things, it has a complete critter database, including pictures.

03:47 PMOf course, notice it runs within the web browser, meaning java, meaning crash on 50% of the systems out there unless they code it exactly perfect, something simu isnt known for.
BUT maybe on the bright side ill be able to play from unix now

Hopefully this year will have a lot more to show for Simu than last previous years. Much progress is being made to the game itself and this new HUGE update to the FE is another example of things to look forward to.

Hopefully this trend can continue. That list of additional features made me drool.

Any idea when it will come out?

The LAST thing I heard date wise was that it would come out sometime in August along with the EN release.

That information is a couple of months old, and the EN release has been pushed back 3 weeks, and I've not heard anything about it. So, if I had to guess.... I would say anytime between late August and never, with a median around late September.

I personally don't like the new one. I don't want the pictures and things, just the text.

02:20 AMConsidering Windows XP is going to ship without Java on it, I think Simutronics is making a big mistake with this new font end. Using Java? I don't see how it could help anything, it can only make things worse. Why would they even do such a thing?

I'm pretty sure they said the new interface supports scripting. I don't remember the details, though.

Also, it only works with IE. The Wizard and Java will still both be available from what I hear. reg

06:53 AMLooks interesting to me, someone let me know when it comes out. I am kinda behind in the times.

BTW I should be back in the lands on the first of September.
