New Titles

12:15 PMDateline 11/16/2001: TITLE PROCLAMATION

Let it be known that henceforth, by High Council decree, that the Council of Guilds has proclaimed a change of status. The Council has deliberated the question of titles for the Lords and Ladies of its membership, and decreed by an overwhelming majority vote that a change in titles is in order. The Council of Guilds has sent out a scroll of proclamation to each and every guild declaring the new titles that shall be used. To find out which titles are available to you, simply refer to the TITLE LIST.

07:55 PMI hate all the titles. They're meaningless and only promote OOC behavior among people who insist on commenting on things their players can read on their computer monitors.

I can't remember how to flag mine off, or even how to see which one, if any, is on me, or I'd get rid of it altogether. I hate the profession stuff too. It's bad enough that people insist they somehow know my character's name without ever having met her simply because the name is on their screen.

I agree Sonic. It would be impossible in a room of 5 elves to know which one you're talking to at any given moment, plus trying to use verbs such as nod or wave or whatever would be a comedy of horrors. My thought, however, is that the players should not allow their characters to magically know the names of perfect strangers just because they can read them on the screen.

A simple "Hello, I'm Bestatte. And you are?" would be the roleplayed way of doing things. Unfortunately too many people (including myself for a very long time!) don't even think of it as an option, because we're just so used to accepting this ability as second-nature.

09:25 PMThat definitely should be a no brainer as far as the RP community is concerned, however characters need real handles (names in the case of GS) for stuff to be effective.
