Modifications to Alteration Guidelines

I'm going to start this off in here since it's news and pertains to everyone. After a week or two I'll move it to the Alterations folder to use as a reference. Thanks.

Subject Modifications to Alteration Guidelines (1048)

Understanding that any merchant may refuse on personal grounds not to do any type of alteration ... we have made the following modifications to alteration guidelines.

* bloodstains, bloodspatters, etc, are ok.
* it is ok to use the word "worn" in items, when it is meant as "weathered".
* books are ok.
* items may have racial descriptions. (Such as "elven long bows" or "dwarven axes")
* it is ok to have "knight" items. However, spurs are reserved for some special situations within the game.
* it is ok to use "suede" as a material in alterations.

In general the other rules were loosened up a bit. However, we depend more upon merchant discretion and creativity.

Some outstanding questions we're working on resolving:

* pin-worn shirts (due to the layer system issues)
* I.G. undergarments (due to the layer system issues)
* profession descriptions reg

That sounds nice, a lot of the items I would want would be elven, I was pretty disappointed when I heard that one wasn't possible. reg
Question now...

Will they allow longer items? I think it was 15/15/15 before, maybe I want a massive black death sickle etched along the haft with unholy symbols of urdaemons.

(Not that exactly, but the length)

I don't think length requirements will ever change since that's a coding issue, not a "I won't want to do long named items" issue. reg
Thanks for posting this Crystal. I've been having fun getting stuff done that I have been waiting on for ages

And Dustin, what you want is commonly called a long description, and it has always been available as an alteration. What is not accepted is having a long description AND a show, although you may see some items, usually Great Auctioned or special merchant (such as the spider cloaks from the Dhu) that have both.

the 15/15/15 is for the short description on a show, or for standard merchant items. It actually applies as well for the long description. What you wanted would be a black/death/sicle under the 15 rule (that is what usually shows up in the hand window). In a long, the 15/15/15 can fall anywhere in the item description. So technically, I could get a dainty pair of low-heeled black leather slippers with quaint diamond buckles. The 15/15/15 would be black/leather/slippers.

Hope that helps!

The 15/15/15 will stay because it is a coding issue, from what was said at Vegascon. As for having race specific descriptions opn alterations, it was mentioned that the ban on using translations of race specific rune will stand. So one will still not be able to have something altered with, for example, "the dwarven rune for 'Courage' on it" since most non-dwarves won't know how to read dwarven runes and thus would not know it is the dwarven rune for a specific word in common. This is just be sensible. I applaud their efforts to loosen up the descriptions while trying to maintain some IC integrity and internal logic to the world.
