Other online roleplaying games

Just started this game called Avalon.

Anyone else out there ever try it and have any opinions on it?

So far I am impressed that it doesn't look like a standard Mud.

Hiway reg

Yes I have tried it once before. And two it seemed to be a very cool game. But I can never figure out damn mudd program. So I never get into it that much. I also tried a game called aardwolf. It seemed even cooler than that. Lots of quest and lots of people that help you in times of need. Both are text which I know you know avalon is.

Friend of mine and others is producing a game called "beyond the gate" ...based on how he has described it to me, and through the early emails he has sent out to us, it looks really cool. Spending a ton of time on it, and really looking out in the best interest of the players....He expects it to be going beta Nov 1.

I'll give you his email if you are interested and want on the mailing list..and dont hestitate to say.."Zanagan sent me" heh

I hope you are right. I played on AOL and had a great time there.

Avalon now has a new FE based on Java. Extremely easy to use if you want to try it again. They have a page full of different Clients also.

Just sounds like there are quite a few upset people with how Gemstones is going now becuase of breakage. Well just curious if anyone is going to try new games of if anyone has yet and what games?

Lord Deprav reg

I'm not. I think this'll make things a bit more interesting. As they said, nothing will be permanently broken. It might be expensive to repair, but it's never beyond reparation. This is another way to drain silver from the land. There is WAY TOO MUCH silver in the land. I for think this is a great change and I'm glad to see it.

As for other games? Nah, not me. When I'm done with GS, I'm done.

Sonic reg

Alfador, I just want your opinion on this and anyone else who cares to comment, but do you think that with repair costs and less silvers floating around that the value of items will drop and cause a "deflation" of the silver value?

If it does, that would be good, but if it does not then many things will be untouchable by all but the oldest of characters due to the costs.

Inferno has breakage, but it isn't an issue to anyone. Things break eventually if you don't keep them maintained. Stuff your cloak too full with things and that'll turn to shreds, with all your things on the ground. Use a weapon over and over without even checking to make sure it's in good shape and eventually it'll fall apart.

I don't know if we have catastrophic breakage - meaning, something that is perfect that becomes suddenly useless after a single use. We do have some pretty serious damage to things on occasion, though.

Doesn't matter really. It's an inconvenience, but it's an accepted part of the game, written into the manual for anyone to read about.

Heh...Roberta watches my behavior in The Inferno too. reg
You'll see deflation in MOST items, but perhaps not as drastic as you'd like. Some items will actually inflate in price though. I know of some items that have pretty good breakage numbers now compared to everything else, I suspect them to at worst, retain their prebreakage values. You will see an inflation in self mana items and other nonbreakable utility ones. The people with the real good items don't use them. These items will not be affected by breakage simply because they are sitting in a locker waiting for some moron to pay 500 dollars for them. I think you'll also see a decrease in cash prices moreso than silver prices. Who knows though, I'm sure as hell no economist.

Just was wondering if anyone has played ages of camelot. Share some infor here was curious on the price, statistics of players, graphics, storyline, ect. Anything anyone can share would be great. Otherwise I'll have to wait till ff10. reg
Ok I did a bit of research on Dark Age of Camelot.

According to Gamespot this game is the leader in the online 3D genre. Here is a link of their review where you can see a really good trailer and see other player's comments etc.

I am planning on buying the game after reading the detailed review and reading comments etc. I will let you know once I get it, create an account and play for a bit what I think.

If anyone else wants to join me just drop me a line at hiway1999@yahoo.com and let me know what server you are going to play etc.

Thanks Hiway. I would really be interested in playing it one if I could find a copy at Best Buy when I went and two if I could find out how much a month it is going to be before I buy a copy of it. I would like to play it if it isn't a ton and hell I would even play it with yahs if I could find out some information on it.

Currently on the road right now but there is a Circuit City on my overnight Tues night so I will see if they have a copy. I will also look online and see what the game is going for. I like usually using www.buy.com or even Amazon.com to check prices for software.

I even think that link of Gamespot might have the official website where you can buy online. From what I remember I think they said around 20 bucks for the software and then 10 a month for a subscription.

I am looking forward to it. That trailer/interview and the reviews really have me interested. Sounds like ton of possibilities.

Like someone else said earlier though I think the one to beat will be Shadowbane.

MMORPG net is the place to really see what is coming out there in this medium.

So far what I have seen/read of DAOC the views of staff/policy/design are all very well thought out. (especially in contrast to something else...)

This topic along with several others will be moved to the new Video Games folder for continued discussion.

I know this is old, but I wanted to comment. One of the gods from Avalon created a game that uses the Avalon engine, and it is a lot more popular. The game is Achaea, and there is a sister game that just started called Aetolia. They can be found at achaea.com and aetolia.com.

I see that DAOC has taken root, but for those who still like a good text mud with player vs. player combat these are great.
