For a lot of the kids it is a holiday too.
I checked the DR and GS3 online numbers also and combined during a holiday they are way low.
I see the end.

Oh yeah - I also see working people who do *not* get Friday off - at work and unable to play. reg
That's nothing new. reg
I've always noticed in the years past that holidays run up the number of players. Since people are home and looking forward to sitting in their jammies with snacks and soda and playing all day long...Thanksgiving isn't the holiday that keeps on giving, its a meal than that's that.
Good question about H&X...I've always wondered how that game survives. But then, Plat wasn't much better.
(do they even have a Plat for H&X)?
I think all around numbers for Gemstone are slipping. I say this because of the massive numbers of people that run multi accounts as opposed to those millionaires that could afford it back when it actually cost money to play. So even if you say 'its the same'...its not really

All in all I just hope the numbers keep dropping so they'll just get rid of premium. Keep plat, that's fine by me, but get rid of premium in the main game and I'll be a happy camper.

DR (according to the info on Tsoran's site) tends to max a bit higher, like 1100-1200 or so.All in all I just hope the numbers keep dropping so they'll just get rid of premium. Actually, having played since June of 95 I've seen numbers as high as 2,200 in GS3. Back then it was pay per hour, but the moment it went pay per month GS3 soared. I had a log of the first week I logged on, this was when it had recently hit AOL (maybe the same day) and there were around 400 (maybe low 300) people on.
The success of GS3 has been a combination of fabulous luck and a monopolizing spirit. You have to understand that GS3 more than 5x'd the player base when it went play per month on AOL AND they were getting paid per hour of play as their contracts with AOL hadn't run out yet.
When this occurred GS3 realized they had a base they could take with them and so moved to the web with their new found super riches (they were making more before, but they really raped AOL for a bit).
On top of that GS3 is a master of the pigeon stratagem. It seems that when an animal -- humans inclusive -- gets a treat randomly they are more inclined to become addicted than if they're constantly given a treat.
In essence Simutronics has opened a few casinos. By playing you're gambling you will get what you want, but more often than not lose out. If you were getting what you wanted more often than getting the shaft you would be less likely to play. What does a gambler do when s/he loses? They bitch about it. It doesn't mean they stop.
Frankly Simutronics has found it's niche, and that's not something like Inferno where you have an enjoyable experience. They don't care if you want to stay, they care if you (in mass) want to leave. To bad I'm a softy or I would adopt the same tactics with the game I'm working on.
