Smash Brothers Melee

After being pretty disappointed with the lack of PS2 games worth buying, I'm trading mine in for a Gamecube in about a month. My friend and I really liked Super Smash Bros for N64 so I will definitely be getting that game... I hear that Sonic game and Pikimin are good too. One thing I have to hand to Nintendo is that they have been, by far, over the past 15 years, the best game producing company across the boards. I don't know what I was thinking buying PS2 in the first place...

But to stay on topic, does anyone have/play Smash Bros Melee? If so what can you tell me about it?

I'm not really sure what constitutes a game worth buying, but in my opinion, nintendo has slowly gone down hill.

Super Nintendo was by far, the best console in history, when they had Squaresoft, Enix, EA, and Capcom producing games on a regular basis.

Nintendo has turned their attention toward a younger generation (10-15 years of age), and lost some of that spark which drew veteran gamers. I predict Gamecube to be just another onslaught of Cartoonish games aimed toward kids, with the last good game on a Nintendo system being Goldeneye for N64. reg

Confirmation of the cartoonish, kiddy style that Nintendo is heading towards is the fact that the upcomming Zelda will be a cartoon game.

That was my problem with Nintendo, the games aren't as diverse as they were with the Playstation. Sony had a wide variety of every game, sports, action, RPG, shooters, you name it. N64 seemed very limited in its spectrum of games, endlessly recycling the same franchises over and over.

That's why Nintendo loses my support for the future. I'm not too interested in playing Mario Part 72. It's either Sony or Microsoft who I feel are the only companies worth investing in.

Yeah, Resident Evil is far too kiddie for me. reg

When I said Nintendo has the best games, I mean the COMPANY Nintendo, not third party producers. Nintendo makes a very wide variety which really are playable by all ages which I like. Most of my favorite games are back from NES and SNES... Zelda3, Super Metriod, Punch out, Mario 2&3. I really like Smash Brothers though, there is a ton of skill involved if you are fighting against another good player and its awesome to pay attention to stats.

Smash for the cube is my favourite video game. Two controllers, its fun. Four and it is amazing.

I use Link, but start off with Kirby. When you master him, he is the best character in the game. Pikachu, Falco and Samus are also good.

Best stage for a melee is Temple, by far. Pokemon stadium is a far second.

What else... When you are playing, pick up everything you can. Concentrate on it. You will win if you pick up everything. Trust.

My friend and I must've played the N64 one a million times, so I doubt the mechanics and stuff are much different. The Smash Brothers games tend to look kinda button mashing at first, but there definitely is some stratedgy to em. Thanks for the insight Krong.

I have to be Link (or young Link) mostly for coolness purposes. Link was always one of my favorite characters out of any video game, and my loyalty lies with him. Heh. (Besides, adult Link looks pretty cool.) I'm relatively proficient with him, though. My friends strongly dislike the game because I tend to WHOOP 'em.
