Help with a New Archer

Anyone know where a turnip farmer can find a guide for Archery? I'm looking for moderate growth stat placement and an early training plan based on the new character manager format.
Also, is strength the only stat that effects RT for cocking a crossbow. I'm leaning towards a Giantman/Rogue for the strength bonus, the high HPs, and the cheap training costs.

Thanks.

Stat placement as a rogue archer is still fairly similar to a regular rogue. Some stats that should be slightly higher are: reflex (80's with bonus) and mental stats like LOG, WIS and INT for mental TPs.

Also, are you planning on using bows or crossbows? With ranged weapons skill you can use both equally well, but different skills are used for DS of one vs. the other. reg

The base of my training plan will be:
1x Armor
1x Shield
1x CM
2x Ranged
2x Brawling
3x Hide
3x Perception
2x Ambush
1x PT

I plan on using a Crossbow. I may need to skip a training or 2 in CM at first, but I can make that up later. With the new Brawling weapons, and the DS benefit, I think Brawling is a good alternative weapon choice for an Archer. Also, it is my understanding that an Archer's RT is not effected that same way as other weapon types, encumb/armor, so I plan on wearing armor that I'm not fully trained for. My hope is that the encumb/armor penalty wont effect my RT for ambushing from hiding with a Brawling weapon, too much.

Is training in shield necessary? Some people say you should train at least once a year, others say don't bother. So which is it? I'm not training in it and she's already level 5. I know, still young enough to start over again if I must.

What is shield use for other than holding a shield? reg

I chose to train in shields since I picked up a second weapon type. With the new Brawling weapons I can hide/ambush specific body part hopefully with more accuracy. Also, later on I may decide to learn Voln-Fu. reg

Wearing armor you're not trained for is a very dangerous mistake.

Not to mention that armor DOES add to your roundtime if you're not fully trained for it.

Shield use is cheap redux, and it's also very useful for stunman. If you get stunned, which you will, simply put away your bow, pull out a shield, stance defensive to boost your DS.

My "ideal" archer would be:

2x Armor
1x Shield
2x Ranged
1x Brawling
3x Hide
3x Perception
2x Ambush
1x PT
2x theiving
1x climbing
1x swimming

That gives 8/1 redux for the first part of your life. Later you'll get more points and can boost yourself to 9/1 redux, a little bit later boost yourself to 10/1 redux (by only like 15 trainings you can have 10/1 redux) then a bit later 10/2 redux by doubling in brawling, and finally when you're close to 30-40 trainings you can get 11/2 redux by doubling in physical training.

It's all about redux as an archer, without it you're weak and will not be able to survive enough hits to be viable at the later years, you'll be resorting to constantly being hidden and sticking to VERY strict hunting parameters, which is very frustrating not to mention difficult to maintain.
