Windows XP

I hate even asking this question so don't flame due to the subject content.

I dislike Miscrosoft as much as anyone else but who else can you go to other than Macintosh which isn't to bad but that is a whole another issue.

With the up and coming release of Windows XP, will you upgrade?

I am hestitant to upgrade and I really don't care for the new FE design but with my current system Windows 98 is really starting to bug out on me. I will mostly have to reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows 98 to fix the problems but then again if I am going to go this far why not just submit and buy Windows XP.

Do you really think it is worth it? reg

I'd like to consider Linix, but the other members of my household don't seem as eager to try it. I'm sick to death of MS and everytime they come out with a bigger HD then Windows gets incrementally bigger too. I don't think I will try XP until it's been out for a couple years, let someone ELSE deal with the bugs, I have no patience for it, when I buy something with my hard earned money I want it to work, now...

Oh, I would love to move to Linux but the there just isn't enough support software out there.

I am crossing my fingers that Linux will someday be the achilles heal to Microsoft.

XP Professional is great.

I loaded it on my notebook couple days ago and its really good.

Did I pay for it? NOPE.

I got a version of it that is the full version but doesn't have the nasty registration process.

Selling it to people at work for 25$ a CD right now, so far 50 or so orders have been placed.

Buckwheet reg

That was the reason why I wasn't going to purchase it because of the registration process. There are going to be alot of troubles with it. Because once you register for something it must stay the same thing. Well printers are a good example. Register once for a printer, than you must keep it. I guess there might be some complicated ways around it, but who wants to do extra work?

Anyways if you dont have to register for that version of windows xp, put me down for a version Buckwheet.

Lord Deprav
Poor stripper not going to be able to give me a lap dance this week cause I am purchasing Windows XP. reg

I miss plain ole DOS. But if I had my druthers I'd take back my win3.11 over the ME I'm using now.

Will I upgrade? Sure. Soon as I need a new computer. Give me a few years for that, by then they'll be out with WinKewl. reg

Mallagra,

I think that you asked a good question.

I think that which operating system that you install would depend on what you do with your computer. If you could tell us a little bit more about what you want your computer to do, perhaps we could suggest the "best" operating system to use. Even within the Windows environment, I think that some of the operating systems are better than others for certain applications, like gaming.

I have two computers running Windows 98 SE and one computer running Windows 2000 Professional. My kids, the gamers, tell me that the Windows 98 SE is the best operating system for their gaming. I use Windows 2000 Professional on my machine for work stuff. They cringe whenever one of them has to use my machine for gaming. We have seen the difference between the machines as we have put them side by side to compare and see the games in progress.

I was thinking about installing ME on one of the gaming machines this weekend to see how it would stack up, but was outvoted by my gamers. They say that not all of the games will run under ME.

I think that that XP is more suited to the work environment than gaming. I am not incline to upgrade at home, nor at work. Windows 2000 is doing what we need it to do for us.

What kind of problems are you having with your current Windows 98? Are you using the Second Edition? If not, then I would say (rather, my gamers) load up the Windows 98 SE. I think that it sets up the hard drive more efficiently, and you should see some speed gains instead of the older Windows 98.

I hope that this helps.

I'm upgrading.

Hey buck, you sure that isn't the pay-for-beta program your buying?

waving bye-bye to DOS...
reg

Positive.

Its the coporate release of XP.

What does that mean?

It means a company with 2500+ users bought it from Microsuck and being such nice guys Microsuck removed from the code the online registration process.

I have installed it and changed the dates all the way up to 2008 and back to 1998 and it works just fine. Its version 2600 so it is the final release no doubt about it.

Its Windows XP Professional Corporate Edition. Its the one they don't want you to know about and you have to "be" someone in order to get this version. Like GM, Sony, Intel and other huge companies.

Buckwheet reg

in that case, put me on the list

Thanks for asking, I use my system for gaming, internet gaming and work related things. I will be moving to Windows XP for more of a stable environment.

I would have went to windows 2000 until I heard windows XP was going to be released in October. I think I will go with the home version of Windows XP and don't see a real big need for the corporate version unless someone can tell me why?

I believe the stability between the two versions is the same and the only difference is networking and security capabilities. If that isn't correct, let me know. reg

Uhm.

I am good? I don't reveal my sources.

Buckwheet reg

It's not very hard to get XP professional Dell Version or any other corporate version. All it takes is mIRC, half a brain and a mouse, if even that.

Bragging about selling copyrighted software at 25$ a piece seems quite childish. Don't you have better things to do with your time?

Also I love all this bashing on Microsoft. Tell me one good reason why any of you hate Microsoft, or is it just cool to hate them?

It's cool man, where have you been?

Sonic reg

Don't think I was bragging.

I was stating a fact.

I never said I hate Microsoft. But thats ok, keep thinking what you want to.

By the way the Dell version checks the bios of your motherboard and if it isn't dell or compaq or who ever is the company who licensed it, it doesn't install.

I fail to see why you hating people for their race is ok but thinking its bad to hate Microsoft isn't. Hmm.

Doesn't make sense. But oh well, I have better things to do with my time then argue with someone over why I copied their software. If you don't want to do anything other then rip on people maybe you should use another medium.

The dell version doesn't check your motherboard you idiot. If it checked your motherboard dell would never be able to upgrade motherboards. And on a further note, I’m currently running the dell version of XP on a non dell system.

‘2500+ users bought it from Microsuck and being such nice guys Microsuck’
Hm yes, Microsuck, is that hating Microsoft or trying to be cool?

You liberals always love to bring in the race card. Everything someone says about a different topic you always cry RACIST!!!!! Dude get a life and stop selling pirated software.

Microsoft has lost my respect for the following reasons:

1. They try very hard to put some of my favorite programs out of business by using unfair business tactics. I don't mind fair competition, but not allowing someone to sell a PC with Windows on it because someone wants some alternative brand of WP or Mail program is ridiculous and unacceptable.

2. They refuse to fix some major bugs, things like the new virus' coming out which use outlook and you don't even have to d/l anything, just look at the mail and you arenot only contaminated, but you are also spreding it to everyone in your address book. I heard about the possibility of this 3 years ago, and I'm not really knowledgable on the subject. They knew about it AT LEAST when I did, more likely many many months earlier and did NOTHING to fix the defect.

3. Have you ever tried to delete a component you don't use out of windows to make room for a different program or just to make room for more mp3's or video clips or anything else like that? It's impossible, if you try you can really wreck your windows and have to reinstall.

As for the racist remark, you are one. You chose to do the name calling, now live with the title.

He who laughs last, didn't get the joke. reg

You see we could have had a nice discussion because when I got the Dell version it did check the bios and a flash screen came up saying to call their service number.

I have a very nice life thank you and if you look past your degrading attitude and demeaning manor wish you love to show on these boards you would see that I don't care to be "cool". I could care less what you think of me, I could care less if you posted on these boards. In fact I bet I would cheer your name if you died today.

You look to be the one that needs to "get a life" since all you seem to have time for is insulting people, and you must have nothing better to do with your time. If you and your buddy Alfador have nothing better to do then I suggest you leave and find something more contructive to do with your lives. I for one feel very good about my life and what I do with it. Do you?

And explain to me what the proble with my brigning in the race card? You have made it very clear you HATE a certain set of races is that your attempt at being cool or do you have reasons. I hate a company it happens to be called Microsoft. I don't answer to you therefore I don't need to explain my reasons.

Its the same thing. However this topic as gone way of topic in terms of people asking questions about XP. I thought we had gotten past the point of petty people picking on everyone else. I think someone is just a little jealous.
