Respect for other teams. I used to really like the Denver Broncos, even when they were not that good. I went to school in Colorado and saw in full force the fans that were overzealous and overconfident in a team that is based on money. It soon wore on me and I started to really hate the Broncos because of that. I relished when they would get beat severely in the Superbowls and Elway would choke.
Since moving away and after fans being humbled, Elway learning patience and determination then my respect returned.
I have always loved the Yankees in the past.
Please don't make me hate them.
Hiway reg
However, with the events of the past months, I _do_ feel that this year's yankee fan deserves a championship...and that the yankees this year are playing with a totally different spirit. reg

As an die-hard New York Rangers fan, I can assure you that money is not the only factor in making a good team. Anyone wanna take bets on how long until Lindross it out for the season?
Oh, and go Yanks. reg
Professional sports in general usually are based on the power/money of the organization.
College sports are much more interesting because so many factors are used in winning: Team spirit, school legacy, personal pride, scouting, and many other factors.

Ahh damn you for making me feel guilty about gloating! Heh : P
But one thing you said I did find interesting..you made a point about "a team based on money." Wouldn't you say all pro sports teams are based on money, though? In general, look at the salaries these guys make. How many million a year just to play a "sport?" Now don't get me wrong, I know there's a lot of hard work involved. Being a professional athlete isn't just picking up a bat and hitting a ball, or throwing a basketball through a hoop, or hitting a puck into a net. There's a lot of strenuous training, physical and emotional sacrifice (these guys often live out of suitcases, they can't be around their friends and families as much as a person should be.) Granted, they should be paid for that, but whatever point whatever million a year? Isn't that a bit ridiculous especially when you consider these firefighters and police officers who put their lives on the line everytime they punch in on the clock, making maybe $60,000 a year at top pay? I don't know but I think it's kind of unfair to label a few teams who spend their money on acquiring top players when it's pretty much most athletes who demand these huge salaries..and at the end of the day who's giving the professional sports teams all kinds of cash to spend?

As long as people are still willing to pay 150,000 dollars to sit 12 feet from a nearly middle aged basketball player, and still willing to shell out 50 bucks a month for cable, and still willing to pay 200 bucks for a jersey, athletes will still be making millions.

Also I hate the Rangers. Picking up Lindros was purely to bring fans back in. Lindros never was that great of a player in the first place and yet he is concussion prone. Just like what happened with the Islanders, pick up Peca, who sits out a year cause he has his head up his ass and then they sign him and he gets a concussion. He his not worth a dime that is payed for him. He stinks extremely bad. The only reason he was descent in Buffalo was basically because of Hasek. They had no scorers on the team so he put up his normal 20 goal seasons.

I hope everyone realizes the Red Wings are the best team in the NHL. reg
Agreed..with Dominik Hasek now in goal...Red Wings are pretty insane.

If they didn't earn it, the owners wouldn't be able to afford their saleries. People pay to see the players... play.
Quite frankly, even making it to the major leagues is an amazing accomplishment. reg

The business behind the Rangers is pretty simple. They have a team in New York City. People (suits, mostly) want to see the famous Gretzsky/Messier/Lindross/Big Name Big Salary Hockey Player. Rangers cater to this crowd, make all the money they could ever want, but don't build a good team.
But I'm still sticking with 'em.
Also, on another note, if anyone is going to be at the Devils v. Bruins game on November 3rd... I'll be on the ice during one of the intermissions, the team I'm an assistant coach of doing the "Mites on Ice" thing.

Exactly, we (well the people who enjoy sports entertainment and buy tickets to the game, sports paraphernalia, etc etc) are the reason there is so much money to be spent on the athletes..and if for some reason that was to stop, their paychecks would be quite less.
As far as the Yankee's budget, I was reading numbers somewhere (I think Sports Illustrated) and I thought I also heard someone mention on this board (could be wrong though) that the Red Sox budget (ahem, ahem Zanagan) isn't that far behind the Yankees..and well all I really have to say is 1918..heh...also the Diamondbacks had/have quite an impressive sum of money to spend..but then again they are the NL Champs.

I remember that I used to cringe when seeing on the TV a Brown's vs. Bengals game.
That was the definition of ultimate boredom. I wouldn't force anyone to watch that game in the 80's or 90's. Sheer torture.
I am enjoying the new Browns. And ya gotta love the fans. Some true loyal football fans.
