not another one. . .

Another plane crashed in NYC. I guess it crashed into a neighborhood. There were (I think) 255 passengers, and I'm not sure how many died in the neighborhood.

Not sure if it was terrorist or accident.

This one doesn't look like terrorism. It definitely wasn't a hijacking, although there may have been a bomb on board. With the worthless trash they have scanning bags at airports this would not surprise me at all.

They are saying it isn't terrorist related. The last official statement I heard is that the engine "fell out" of the plane, which caused the crash--am I the only who thinks that sounds absolutely idiotic? I mean, yes there are engine malfunctions, but how neglected/poorly engineered does the plane have to be for the engine to FALL OUT?! These airplanes do undergo maintanence, and I have a hard time believing that the FAA's standards are that poor that they would allow a plane like that on the runway. Also, for a city where the officials are urging everyone to go out, travel and enjoy themselves, and are doing all they can to keep everyone calm, they shut down all the bridges and tunnels, and closed all three airports..and there are about three to four choppers just over the north shore of Staten Island now that I hear/see...so I don't know if I'm buying this whole "the engine fell out, it was just an accident" stuff. reg
Well, I'm a pilot, and although I only have about 30 minutes of jet time, I know quite a bit about them. For the engines to just "fall off" isn't as absurd as it might sound. Jet engines are insanely powerful, to consider that the pylons which connect them to the wing would fail is hard to believe, but it would not surprise me if it happened. The engine might have sucked up a few birds that cause blades to go flying and sent one through the wing (where the fuel is.) I'd still consider that to be a little more likely than a bomb. These were airbus planes after all...

It's just so sad how much all of this has changed us. I know a few months ago, I would have never questioned that an airplane had engine problems. And my first thought when I heard this would NOT have been that the terrorists had struck again!

If I'm on the West Coast, thinking and feeling these things... I can only imagine how people in New York are feeling!

That bird idea seems really bizarre to me. How many birds would it take to cause such damage? Ive seen a video clip of a person being sucked into one of those things and he went through it like it was a wood chipper.

Mike reg

Yea but you didn't see the internal damage done to the engine. I'm not saying it's likely, but it's extremely possible. FOD (foreign object damage) is a huge concern. Those blades are spinning at such a high rate of speed that if they disturbed bad things CAN happen. No doubt that the birds or whatever goes in is effectively sublimated, but FOD breaking blades is not rare at all. I've seen a ton of pics of fans which had bird strikes and lost blades. I am just offering a potential explanation, this, in my opinion, is much more probable than the engine just falling off.

Sonic reg

Well, seeing as a pilot (in training?) would be a bit more knowledgable in this situation than I am, I'll hope that is what happened...but..I wouldn't think it would take that long for the officials to determine what the problem was, and release the facts to the media. I don't have the news on now, but..if that explanation isn't in tomorrow's papers...I go back to "HMMMM." reg
Facts:

Tail of plane fell into Jamaica bay.

Engine parts fell in Queens before crash.

Several witnesses saw a fire before AND after engine fell out of the plane.

Plane tilted to the left and did a nose dive before crashing.

No special radio contact was made.

Plane fell off radar.

www.sollog.com says it was a missile.

www.sollog.com notes that it was headed toward the city of Santa Domingo.

Santa Domingo lies next to the Ozama river.
(Phonetically translates to Osama. Only place in the world with a place/landmark with that name)

I think it was either a bomb or missile, but I'm not 100% sure because the tail fell off? I guess we'll wait and see, but remember the Government will control any info given to the press, and if they find out some startling information that will have a bad effect on airlines/travel, they won't release it. Why?

1. More money they'll have to provide to bail out airline industry.

2. Less travel will cause an overall reduction in economic impart of travel/holidays etc.. Government doesn't want that either. More money spent = more taxes collected.
