Illegal Street Races.

Does anny one here goto them?

If you do, do you just watch them, or do you race youre car?

I goto them, i think there fun as hell. But i dont have a car to race...i think part of the excitement is running from the cops, then meeting up and going to another location, sucks tho when some one actually gets pulled over in the middle of a race, i usually feel bad for that person, cause i know there gonna get a PHAT ticket...

VROOM VROOM! reg
The street racing scene in Dallas is alive and well (www.dallasracing.com)...

There's quite a few spots here, but they usually get busted pretty quickly and are all in pretty remote corners of the metroplex. As far as the racing goes, there's lots of imports with obnoxiously-lawn mower-loud coffee can exhaust (gag) and lots of bottle fed GT Mustangs... not too fun to watch.

Toss in one of the nicer cars (Supra dyno'd at 1033 HP at the rear wheels), or a Trans-Am WS-6 and you've got a little something for interesting. There's lots of SS's too. My friend raced one in his Civic and pulled him out in fifth gear... It was tight. A little 4 cylinder Honda tearing the shit out of an SS. Hey... gotta love turbo power.

Do the police really go after the races where you guys live? The Dallas Police just got a new helicopter solely for the purpose.

In Toronto, its different. Friday nights, people with tricked out rides meets in a huge parking lot, line up. Mostly Civics, Preludes, Type Rs, but usually there will be over 200 cars there. I have been a few times, saw a viper once. No one really races though. The surrounding highways are full of fast cars, racing random other cars, but nothing really organized.

I have cruised around with my friend in his stock C320 Benz, racing randoms, but nothing serious.

And you cant show up there in a shitbox. You'll look the fool.

Lots nice cars out here, both imports and domestics, my friends got a lil honda dx, with intake and exhaust, and he ripped the hell outta a Lexus, but hes an awesome driver....its not all about the car, its about the driveing, remember that.

Cops, well most of the time they just drive up to break it up, but if some fool trys to look "cool" and speeds off, they'll go after them. We do races, on wednsday, friday and saturday nights. Wedsndays are good cause cops dont mess with you soo bad, fridays are tite too, but staurdays are like a car show, tons of cars (150+) and lots of raceing, damn fun to watch, lotsa cell phones ringing for locations, all around fun, on a staurday the races usually go from about midnight til 4:30 am, we got about 5 good spots.

Just so everyone knows where im talking about, i live in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Is there a particular reason, if you must race, that you do not do so on a track?

I would think the risk no matter how small for injuring someone would prompt that but perhaps I am misunderstanding exactly what you are talking about. reg

The risk of getting hurt at a street race is just the same as the risk of getting hurt while walking down the street. Unless you mouth off the the wrong person, then you have 50 vato's in their truck that are REALLY pissed off. It happens all the time in Dallas.

Most of the spots in Dallas are completely blocked off by the cars watching, so there's really not any danger to other motorists. I guess I can see your point, but in lots of places tracks are a long drive away and it just isn't feasible to drive there just to race.

There's a track in Kennedale near Dallas that people sometimes go to, but the illegal, random, always changing nature and locations of the races is what makes them so fun and compelling to watch/attend.

I did a bit of street racing when I was younger but found that I had much more fun taking it to the track, not to mention being safer.

The highlight of my racing was going racing on a turbo'd, gassed K1. Was pulling consecutive low 4's in the 1/8 on it.

To goto a track out here it cost money. Plus its more exciteing to street race cause its illegal. You know, the risk is part of the fun.

Whatever you do, dont' race in a SUV. Just 4 days ago this guy I knew was racing on a backroad in an Explorer, and it flipped and threw him out. They never found his legs. reg
What a moron, you'd have to have no common sense to race in an SUV, and i doubt they never found his legs. momentum would have kept his legs goin in same direction car was goin at the time of the flip in the direction it was flipping, and it would also depend on how it was cut off, if it was out a window would prolly remain in car.... reg
They used to do them on Friday and Saturday nights in Staten Island--but out by these areas that were kind of desolate, so although sometimes the cops would come, it wouldn't be til after a while. I've gone to quite a few of them..never raced though (My little 4 cylinder engine would have gotten eaten like a burger by those 8 cyls) reg
