All about ... You

Just curious as to why people pick the professions/names they do. What you like more about a certain profession, don't like. Have you planned for long term growth where you won't come into power late, or did you go for an easier approach starting up so you'll come into power, it just won't take forever?

I'm bored, entertain me. reg

Well the character's I play in DAoC are actually kind of lamely named, but I like how some of the names sound and I enjoy having fun.

My first character there is Hadriel Orunatia.

Hadriel was a named Angel in Diablo II I belive, and that name really stuck in my head. I created the last name to basically sound weird. He is my level 30 armsmen in DAoC now.

I have my level 15 Scout whose name is Rawkanishu Rockhammer and my best friend plays his twin brother Hawkanishu Rockhammer. This was just a silly idea we had, and it is a "bird" reference thing.

My last character is my Smite cleric, Kavouras Nastok. I just thought that name up pretty much out of the blue. It just sounded neat.

As for why I picked them. I wanted the Armsmen to be the focus of my group of friends thats play with me, and they play supporting characters.

The scout I made as I said to be kind of silly and fun, but also because my best friend and I get together and play on my LAN. Someday it would be fun to coordinate a small RvR raid and we can see what eachother is seeing.

The cleric I made because I really like the idea of a combat cleric.

There is the reasons I made them.

I tend to go for more musical names. I don't necessarily pick a name that has meaning, although several of mine do. Mine are more lyrical, and tend to match the race being played.

AERIENNE WOODLAKE (AIR - E - ENN)
Aerienne started as Aerinne, but she was always called Aeri, which isn't correct phonetically, so I went back into the mangler, and Aerienne was born. I didn't know it was a French word that means "she who flies" until later. Woodlake was supposed to be Woodlace, which I thought was pretty, floral, and fitting for the sylvan lady I wanted to create, but that name was taken. I was living in Lakewood at the time, so I just swapped the names into a last name.

She's a rogue, because that was fitting for the personality I had created for her. I also prefer a class with different learning alternatives to straight hunting. It also seemed like an easier class to play than trying to figure out a new magic system back when I first entered the game. My training for her was not thought out for a long time, until someone smacked me upside the head and created a training schedule for her. I love her too much to reroll, and am not willing to give up the time investment to start again. Fortunately, she's not too badly off for training.

KITRIONA CALEDON (KITRI ONA CAL A DON)
Kitriona Caledon is my highlander cleric in DAoC. Catriona is Catherine in Gaelic, and a name I have always liked. I like Kit names, so I corrupted it. Caledonia is another name for Scotland, so I thought it a fitting name for her highlander background. She's a healing cleric. Fun loving, irreverently religious, which seemed rather fitting for her race. She's easy to get along with, although a touch bit haughty. I thought it would be a good class to introduce myself into the game with, because clerics are very social people and highly in demand for groups, and it's been a lot of fun. She's training primarily in healing, with a few in smite, although I would love to have more points to make smite more effective.

GS characters:

Courtine Fretiller - means "Frisky Curtain" translated roughly from French. I found the words in a tiny 1" long french/english dictionary given to me by a friend, and it just sounded nice as a name.

Courtine was a giant bardess who in real life might be classified as a mildly retarded "idiot savant." Had incredible wisdom (the worldly type, not the stat!), but was also fairly innocent in the ways of the world. An old soul, but who was totally oblivious to her own depth. Her favorite weapon was a dark red shaalk morningstar she named Fluffy. She loved the hunt, whether in a group or alone (she hunted mostly solo or with 1 other person in the area she'd be in at the time). She was unviable from a training/stats point of view, since she was a CoL blunt bardess and I just didn't have the points to toss into defenses. But I loved playing her, especially when she'd make up songs to tell stories about people she met.

Bestatte Oleanna - named after the Egyptian cat goddess Bastet, allegedly the granddaughter of Oleanna, by way of transferrence of the genes through magical means to the mother's egg while Phoen came to earth disguised as a handsome elf and impregnated mom one lonely night. Dark elven sorceress, I started her out as being a giggly silly girl, but "grew up" as far as RPing goes and realized there was so much I could do with her. So I carefully changed her personality over time, and she became a stoic, serious-minded Dhe'nar Priestess with a dry wit and a penchant for innuendo.

Inferno:

Brevet Deitel - the only male character I've ever played longer than a day or two just for a goof. Last name is shared with a Visual Basic manual author, I was taking my VB classes at the time. Brevet's just made up out of my head. He's a tanner - makes leather armor for his customers. Darklander, so he's faithful to Kasira, but he's really a twilighter at heart in personality. A voracious flirt, loves the ladies, can be a little on the sickeningly sweet side sometimes. He's all of 19 years old, and has travelled the world with his pa. Mom died just a few months ago so he's still a little sad, but he's a survivor and doesn't make a fuss about his sadness to anyone.

Desharei Nardum - pronounced Desh-ah-Ray - accent on the "ray". Made-up first name, last name is part of a plant genus. Kasiran priestess, polite when she needs to be for political or diplomatic purposes, respects the title of authority even if she loathes the person who holds the title. She's been kinda wishy-washy about things, because she spent a lot of time in the twilight city after leaving home and before returning to the darklands to live in Keraagh. But she's getting stronger, and is starting to exert her authority more now. She's what I would have done with Bestatte in GS, if GS supported the hard-core roleplay.

Kranar Drogin

Made up Kranar, made up Drogin. Saw the movie Blade at the theaters and was like... "Yeah! That guy looks so cool, I need to make a character just like him!"

Before that I played some dumb giantman warrior named Bangeer Mangeer, I knew nothing about GS and thought this game was a total and boring waste of time. Hung around the pawnshop mostly picking junk up hoping it would be worth even a penny and getting into a lot of fights with people. Finally I read a log of meteor swarm and told myself that I just had to cast that spell one day.

I've had a buncha characters at a bunch of different places...

GS:

Omnirus Balthar
Tythy Liolluli
Zythius Liollusious
Ziz Zizzes
Vaiio DeathFury

Inferno:

Vaiio : last year's number 1 dance song was Vaiio - Rapture (Deep Dish Remix)
Jaz : just made it up

DAoC:

Midgard/Guinevere:
Vaiio Rapture : same reason as above
Iio : The group Vaiio changed their name to Iio, plus I needed to reroll

Midgard/Merlin:
Exray Visions : first thing that came to mind for some reason
Smelly : just liked it
Furryfeet : got bored and thought of a bunch of names
Horrible : wanted to make a runemaster and name him Horrible Nightmare

Hibernia/Nimue:
Ziz Nargumshimzimli : I had a character named Ziz in GS and the last name I just made really long so I could have a really short first name and a really long last name

Oddone : He's a mage...gotta speak out for Odds

Saul : Couldn't believe the name wasn't taken

Anticor Rifling, made them both up and was my first char. Giantman Wizard because I saw the potential to be different and powerful. I play him as a very kind and helpful big guy. He has a toy that was made in his likeness that he calls "Bob".

Domburr Stone'Melter, dwarf cleric, just seemed like a really good name for a dwarf to have. I haven't had a chance to really develop him though. Think I am going to make him the brooding sort. Dwarf cleric seems pretty cookie cutter but I wanted a cleric and figured this would be a good way to go.

I have only ever played 2 characters. I joined the game in early 1996, the earliest log I have is in August of the same year. I played a warrior named Mrpuck (completely OOC name) to the 7th level. Due to some odd screw-up when rolling him, he had a 0 roll placed in Constitution. Needless to say, he sucked.

After playing Mrpuck for a while I created my current character, Shadowpuck (also completely OOC) Silentknife. Also rolled terribly, Shadowpuck is extremely difficult to play. Despite having an aura of 51 at level 41 and getting next to no training points, he is pretty well trained.

His name means nothing, it came from my AOL Screen name "Shadow019" and my love of hockey. Say whatever you want about it, I admit it's terrible.

Anyway, thanks for readin, please take a look at my sig. ::edit, which is mysteriously missing, so I'll just post the info::

I have long been searching Elanthia for the following items: "a dark spidersilk backpack with anicent elven runes expertly stiched around the edges", "some dark roguish chain mail", and "a silver hilted dark mithril falchion" If anyone has any information on any of these items, PLEASE E-mail me at Shadow019@aol.com

Eh, I prefer to play a character of some form of elven ancestry. I've only had two GS characters so not a lot of names got used. I created a half-elven warrior who refused to use spells to gain an edge in combat that progressed rather slowly named Rantz Wrevern. That name came from a guy I met and hated. I even hated the name at first, but then thought about it and realized it was a good street-wise half-elf bastard fighter's name. The other character I rolled was going to be a pure elf empath that I was going to play as a non-violent druid. So I found some AD&D guild website that had an elven dictionary, and named him what roughly translates to 'Winter Druid'. That didn't last to long not hunting anything and re-rolled him but kept the name. If anyone notices his name's meaning and his current occupation, might not make too much sense. reg
