The Players Corner Archive

Website Hosting

I know some of you may be wondering why I am even considering this option, but here goes.

While these boards were down for a month I came up with some ideas on how to make the players corner more of a players corner.

The first thing I am going to do is register a domain name for these message boards. It will most likely be gsplayers.com.

There will be some sort of page layout with different information and things like that on it.

As part of this new domain I am 99% sure I am going to offer web hosting for members of this community.

I know I am sick of having to go to member.aol.com pages and most of those free web sites are hard to remember the address to. So I am offering a simpler solution.

As an example you would get buckwheet.gsplayer.com as your web address. Along with this address you get somewhere from 100-unlimited webspace, I haven't decided yet what I am going to offer. You also get PHP, access to MySQL and full cgi-capabilites. I also listen to what you want/need to run your websites and can make those availible.

You would also get POP3 e-mail with this account. An example would be buckwheet@gsplayers.com.

So..what I need back from people are posts if they are interested in doing this or not. Depending on interest will determine if it is free or not, but I am thinking it will be on the rage of 1-5$ a month if I charge anything.

Kranar I am going to ask you to assist me in writing a TOS so I don't have to put up with BS.

As soon as I get the web design figured out and get it up, I will tell everyone, untill then continue to use the current address for access to this message boards.

If there is something you would like to see for the web hosting post here.

As a quick side note, you would get full FTP access to the server so uploads are going to be fast.

So come on people! Let me know what you think!

The PHP and MySQL is making me drool already....

That would be a great idea and addition to The Player's Corner. It would expand the information available and bring more involvement to the members of the boards. I like it.

T.O.S, well I don't have a problem with writing that.

Can some one explain exactly what "PHP" and "MySQL" is?

One's a club drug, and the other's medicine for when you get a head cold.

Er...

PHP stands for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor (One of them recursive acronyms.) It's a (server-side) scripting language.

MySQL is a database manager, specifically an SQL database manager. reg

You got my vote for that Buckwheet. reg
Heck, I barely know HTML, and it still sounds like a good idea to me. Go for it Buckwheet!

I originally thought of a website devoted to pulled message board posts in response to wide suspicion that GS Moderators were purposefully hiding posts that were accurately critical of weaknesses in GS3's management and development teams. If anyone is interested, I'll happily share the complete correspondence I have had with lockout@simutronics about this issue. It might open your eyes to see how Simutronics will happily lock customers out for tiny offenses. I am not being subjective in my description - lockout@simutronics has confirmed that my 60 day lockout is a result of 1 flame, 1 friendly joke that was mistaken for a flame, and 2 'disruptive' posts, none of which contain material offensive to children, grandma, or educated people.

I no longer have any interest in a website of hidden message board posts. Simutronics GMs and management have shown me that they are so wickedly underhanded, deceptive, emotional, and unprofessional that I won't be associating with anything that portrays them in a true light beyond anonymously sharing my opinions on the web. Though I have favorable opinions of some of the staff at Simutronics, and some do a good job, they are not the ones who seem to be locking people out for sneezing.

Despite the staff to which Simutronics subjects its customers, I still enjoy playing the game, and am not eager to draw any more attention to myself than necessary. The computer game is not worth the strife or stress that comes when a person tells a Simutronics staff member the truth.

Good luck with your sites. reg

It's pretty hard to snatch posts you think will be removed.

I've done it twice, and it was pure luck, the posts I've snatched were removed after 15 minutes of being posted. Many times there might be a post which I don't think is offensive or against policy, but that ends up being removed and I think to myself "Dang, I probably should have taken that one"

In anycase, I hope I don't have to worry about being permabanned because of doing this. I do intend to copy and paste posts which I feel have some concern regarding Simutronic's service and bring them here before they are pulled.

Overall I think Simu has good GMs, but really it's that one rotten apple that spoils the barrel and sticks out.
