The Players Corner Archive

Damn you lost ranger...

I've been one of those players that has been around on and off since the bad old AOL days but never had a character that made it past 15th level. I finally decided to use this new fangled "autoroller" thingy to reroll a character that I would try to take into the legend territory because, as I've lurked on these message boards the last couple of years, I've heard how great it is. Now I'm hooked.
This thing has destroyed my online time!
I now spend all my connected time trying to get that "great roll" and just missing it. I no longer actually play the game!
I had the Roller set to a minimum of 655 and (no kidding) rolled at least 40000 times without a hit. Tonight I got frustrated and thought "well if it isn't going to hit anyway, I might as well pick a number that's hard and I would be REALLY happy with" (reverse logic I know but I was getting frustrated...)
I set the roller to 665 instead of 655 and check out what I got.

[Entering autoroller mode.]
Roll #1: [99, 90, 86, 85, 59, 58, 50, 47, 43, 39], total: 656, (BEST) Below minimum total

Roll #11: [80, 77, 68, 52,

The first stinkin' roll!
I'm hooked now and may have to get a second account to just run the Autoroller full time, Lost Ranger has taken away the small amount of free time I have for the forseeable future...

Damn you Lost Ranger!

I found the following table interesting, because it gives an idea of just how much time you can spend trying to get that "great roll":

50% 75% 90%
620 +11 minutes 24 minutes 39 minutes
630 +37 minutes 74 minutes 124 minutes
640 +2.4 hours 4.8 hours 8 hours
650 +12 hours 24 hours 40 hours
660 +3.5 days 7 days 12 days
670 +43 days 87 days 145 days
680 +3.4 years 6.7 years 11.2 years
690 +550 years 1099 years 1826 years
700 101,560 years 203,119 years 337, 374 years

This table comes directly from the Statistical Sorcerer's Guide by Sylvendale Thriftfellow. His guide seems quite accurate in every way, so I can bet the above statistics have been properly calculated too. Not sure if this is with the autoroller or not...

<< 640 +2.4 hours 4.8 hours 8 hours >>

Takes me no more than 5-10 minutes each and everytime I roll.

<< 650 +12 hours 24 hours 40 hours >>

Takes me no more than 30 minutes to an hour.

<< 660 +3.5 days 7 days 12 days >>

This took me 8 hours to roll, my warrior is a 660.

Let it go for another 12000+ rolls before I shut it down (about 3 hours) and didn't get anything higher than a mid 630's. It sounds like I should have you roll up my character Kranar.
Seriously, those numbers are way off from what I'm seeing. Could it be my connection or something, approximately how many rolls a minute do you get? reg
I've rolled well over 5 million times and I've only had a handful of rolls over 660. A 683, 670, and a few in the 660s. Getting over 650 in every 60 minutes is pretty good, but I certainly know you get one more than every 12 hours. Has anyone HONESTLY ever gotten much higher than 683?

That probably is another factor, my connection. I have a cable modem and on the old autoroller it gave me a ping time of .3. The new autoroller doesn't give a ping time but atleast it doesn't skip rolls like the old one!

Honestly though I never found it a pain to roll up a character, usually leave it overnight on 660 or 665 go to sleep, and by morning start placing the stats.

Thanks for the info, guess I'm just asking to much of a so-so 56K modem connection if I've only put 10-11 hours into it so far at 655 and 665 settings.
Doesn't the game time you out if you get a number when you're letting it roll while you sleep? I thought the timeout worked in the mangler too. reg
