Ranged Ambushing?

Hey all.

Been a while since I've gotten up to my arms in GS. But since I now have the ability and inclination to play from work, I've rolled up a character and started poking around again.

My question today is about ranged weapons. I really want to start a halfling rogue using ranged ambushing. I'm just wondering if this works at all. Otherwise I may end up going full warrior or empath (again!).

Thanks for the replies.

From what I have seen in the game without actually playing a character that uses ranged weaponry the practice works quite well once you get to the point where your character can stay hidden while ambushing.

I know brawling training is a factor in an active defense using ranged weapons, and most likely even more focus will be applied to this skillset after EN's and GP's are flushed out.

Since dexterity bonus is directly added to the AS of ranged weapons a halfing would then have the highest add factor in playing such a character, not to mention a really nice reflex bonus adds to natural DS.

Your main limitations that I see are thinking serious about round times due to the number of commands required in using ranged weapons and the round time used in cocking a crossbow (low bonus for halflings).

ok sorry for the newbie/dumb questions but can you explain to me what ENs and GPs are? and to grow DS on a ranged char you need to train in brawling? like you would in shields for a shield using char? reg
EN = Elven Nations, the most recent, and largest expansion to GS.

GP = Growing Pains, changes made the games mechanics to help alleviate some of the problems that such diverse training patterns can yield at high levels.

With archery, you will usually have a hand empty. In order to gain DS with an empty hand, you need brawling training. You can train in shield training, you just need to be holding a shield in your left hand to gain the defensive benefit.
