leveling up

hello, i keep hearing all about everyone having 100+ lvl chars everywhere now, have they made exp gaining alot easier from what it used to be? how long is it taking the average player to get a char to lets say 25 or 30?
also, what is redux?

There are several reasons why people get so high in a relatively quick time period.

One is the Beautifulgreen method. Grab a few friends and run your character 24/7 using each friend on shifts.

Another is the multi-account method. Have a few spellcasters of different types, get them all to levels needed to offer a healthy variety of defensive spells, and use them as zombie slaves to spell up your warrior so he can hunt stronger than without them, at higher levels, and be impervious to any injury.

Another is to start playing 10 years ago when the game was in its infancy and earn your way up to the high levels you are seeing now.

30 trainings is 1000000 experience points.

If you get an average of 25 experience points per minute on average when in a hunting mood, then it would take you 660 hours to get to 30 trainings. This simplifies to 4 months playing 5 hours a day on average.

I never understood the concept of "earning" anything in a game where time used equals pleasure. The whole concept eludes me. I personally as the player do not care how or why someone made a character in what time frame. It is severely ooc to consider it in how someone should roleplay. And I think it is highly judgemental to consider ooc.

I thought Beautifulgreen just scripted afk round the clock casting clouds? Hence, the wizard cloud changes, scripting policies, etc.

Went to like level 54 in a month or some such?

Anyway, that was my understanding at the time. reg

To Hiway: In a game where skill=power, even a roleplaying game, one must consider how one acquires that skill. Someone who buys a level 100 sorcerer, who has never played a sorcerer before, might not have any understanding of the mechanics of -being- a sorcerer. And so their power is diminished from a RP perspective because of their lack of understanding of their own profession. A level 100 cleric who has no idea how to raise the dead loses respect of their own profession and of anyone who ever needs the help of a cleric to raise them.

A level 100 sorcerer who has "earned" their way up the levels (meaning, started at level 1) has had the opportunity and time to experiment with each new spell they learn, and therefore is more capable of understanding the profession.

This doesn't mean that someone who has "earned" the levels through work will be a better RPer. It also doesn't mean someone who bought a level 100 character will be a worse RPer. But it does mean that the one who bought the character will be more limited in their understanding of what their character should already know, than someone who has worked their way up the ladder. By the time the level 1 character gets to level 100, he will have had the -opportunity- to understand everything there is to know about bloodburst, focused vs. unfocused maelstrom, wall of force, etc. etc.

The one who just shows up one day at level 100 will have all these skills but will need to take time to learn about them.

To Magister: Beautifulgreen was run by at least 3 people, one of whom was a pre-teenage boy.

Never knew that. Live and Learn. reg

Well it was partly a rumor, and partly assumption on most folks' part. But I had spoken with BG on many occasions while she used to hang out at the general store southeast of TSC in the Landing and then later on when we both "lived" on Teras. One of her players was very friendly and sweet and we used to whisper OOC often about the game. That was the "Enchanter" character. The "robo-hunter" character as far as I know had no idea how to enchant. And the "Enchanter" character never hunted. The other 1 or possibly 2 players switched between the two things. I think they're the ones who caused all the problems with her, though I don't know that for sure.
