Forging?

yea, okay i pretty much know what forging is.. but can anyone tell me this?

WHATS THE POINT?

seems that alot of my friends are spending countless hours in the forging area just to make some crap weapon.

sorry if i seem a little harsh, but i tried it and got frustrated and ignored it till now.. why would you ever want to master the skill of forging if you cant even get a decent weapon outta it? and why do YOU do it? hehe.. thanks

With enough practice, you can make weapons that are of higher quality (better DF and strength values) and lower cost than ones sold in a shop. Right now the highest enchant metal available for forging is invar, which I believe is only +2. In time, more metals (mithril, vultite etc.) will be released. reg
Anybody forging invar yet? reg
It's also a factor when repairing weapons once breakage goes live.

I think invar is available in Zul Logoth. reg

There are at least 3 who have been since December.

I have another question for the forgers, how does hammer attunement work for "team forging", will any member of the group be able to use it to its full potential, or will just the leader of the group, or just the final "crafter" of the hammer.

::gibbers:: What the heck is team forging? reg
Whatever it is, it sounds dirty.

And I've never heard of hammer attunement actually being implemented. Has that been confirmed? reg

I guess i jumped ahead of myself. I've been digging up info on this forging thing and I came accross something about attunement. Team forging was the idea of two (or more i guess) people working together in the forging process. They were even thinking about having a invite system to the whole deal.

I thought the invite thing was so that you can have people join you and share the workshop, like a table in an inn. Had no idea they meant to share the work in making one item together. Although that's not a bad idea. It just doesn't make sense since they were saying hammers are attuned to the maker, and you would have to be skilled enough to use it, as in have the crafting skills to use an elegant hammer.

Bah, I'm gonna shut up now. I never seem to know what's going on or how something works. reg

I'm not sure either, just came accross some things while digging. I do know that they were pretty confident that "crafting" and "forging" would be two entirely independant skills -- as in you could have no crafting experience but just forge, and vice versa, which is where i thought a team type thing would be a good idea. Though maybe it was just to share a workshop...

Also they said that the item would eventually attune to whoever was working with it over time, which brought me to another question -- is attunement based upon the time the crafter has had it or just a base "attunement" rating that has to be worked around, as in, if a person made a hammer then immediantly gave it to his buddy in the shop(joined with him), there would be less "attunement" to work off then if the person used it for 3 months and decided to sell it on the net.

If anyone could clear up these blurry points i'd greatly appreciate it.

From what I understand about the attunement with the hammers, it works with you since you created it and as you forge with it. If you should hand it off to someone else, they can use it but it won't work as well, and with time, it will slowly attune to them. But it will only work the best with the person who uses it the most, basically. So you can sell it on the net to someone, but it won't work as well, especially with someone with no crafting skill at all.

And yes, crafting and forging are separate skills. You can be a master crafter and horrible forger, or vise versa (which would be hard since you need good crafting to make decent pieces but can be done).

And you can forge successfully two weapon styles. Once you start learning the third, the style you work less on will eventually wear off as a skill with time. So if you are a master with edged and two-handed and then started working on blunt and two-handed, the edged skill will decrease in skill. So when you master blunt, edged is just something you know a little of. reg
