Deeds, help me out.

>As you approach the black velvet tapestry, the hooded figure stands and steps in front of you. In a quiet but firm voice the hooded figure says, "To the Gods, the life of this world is no more than the flicker of a candle. You may enter, ."

The hooded figure bows slightly and pulls back the heavy bolt of black cloth. He then motions to the corridor beyond. You respectfully acknowledge his bow and enter the temple. Immediately upon entering, two acolytes appear next to you to assist you in your consultation.

[Temple, Black Altar]
The smoke of scores of incense burners fills the air of this room with a thick, acrid haze. Through this haze can be seen the faint outline of a large, black altar of obsidian surrounded by a high rail. Behind the altar is an arch leading to a blackened passage. Hanging nearby is a brass tube, or chime, suspended from the ceiling by a thong of leather. Next to this chime hangs a small mallet. The two acolytes that greeted you as you entered are standing nearby.
Obvious exits: out.
>ring chime with mal
ring chime with mal
You strike the hollow brass chime with the small mallet and the room is filled with a rich, mellow tone. The two acolytes nod slightly and step back to a position slightly behind you.

>You strike the hollow brass chime a second time.

You turn your attention to the altar and notice a faint light shining through the arch behind it. This light grows consistently brighter until three people make their way into the room. A torch bearer leads the procession followed by a young acolyte. The final member of the party is a very old woman dressed in black robes. She takes her position behind the altar and gazes down at you.

After a considerable pause, the old woman says in a voice strong and steady, "Your face and deeds are well documented in the Book of Passing, . If it is thy wish that I pray to my Goddess for further favor, then kneel and prepare thy offering."
>kne
You kneel down on the platform.
>
The High Priestess says, "So be it, . Drop thy offering. When you are content with thy gift, strike the chime for yet a third time and the acolytes will prepare it."
>drop 100000 silver
You drop 100000 coins.
>ring chime with mal
You strike the hollow brass chime a third time.

The acolytes step forward and prepare your offering. When they have completed their ritual of presentation, they take your gifts to the Priestess who examines them closely. Apparently satisified she says, "I shall pray to the Goddess in your behalf."

Closing her eyes and bowing her head, the Priestess begins to pray. Suddenly the room is filled with a bone numbing cold. The Priestess opens her eyes and says, "The Goddess was neither convinced nor pleased. Go now."

She bows slightly to you and signals to the acolytes at your side. They return the bow of the Priestess and help you to your feet. Then the Priestess takes her party through the arch and they disappear down the passage.

The temple deed formula, as I understand it, is this:
(numbers = silvers)

(100*level) + (100*deeds you have) + (100*times you've died this level) + 100 = x silver

The temple doesn't accept items or gems. The formula tends to get screwy as you age, and for this reason, people who can get into Hearthstone usually use the deed system in there.

*cough*

The temple most definately does accept gems. I believe the commonly accepted exchange rate is 3*(gem appraisal rate) = "silvers"/gem. reg

I believe that after a certain amount of levels/deeds, she doesn't accept silver anymore. ::shrugs:: It hasn't worked for me once I have around 10 levels and deeds combined. reg

I've bought deeds with silver at level 30. reg

Well aren't you special?!

Actually, I think after a certain point the formula isn't exactly the same because I've tried it and she doesn't accept it (which is why I said I can't do it anymore). I should have been more clear. My bad!

Bet you're gonna say I'm wrong here too eh? ::snickers:: Love you Gnomad!! I do! reg

Why not go to hearthstone? instead of the temple? reg
How does the Hearthstone deed system differ from that of the Temple? I've always just gone to the temple and dropped some gems, but it would be nice to know what my alternatives are. reg

I'm no expert but I think it works pretty much the same. You put items into the drawer? (been awhile) close it and depending on the value of the combined items you'll either hear weeping or some other message.

You can use drake items, crystals, wands.. lots of different things. I've heard some people say it was a lot easier to get deeds this way. I can't confirm or deny that...
reg

To get a deed at the temple, I'd first go to the gemshop and get a variety of gems appraised, and use them according to their value. So would it be the same with Hearthstone, and instead of taking gems to the gemshop, I'd be taking items to the pawnshop? Just not sure about the exchange rate and all. I guess I could go do some testing myself, but, well... meh. Just looking for more detailed information.

he neglected to mention he has over 100 deeds which is why he edited it out...

~tijay the party pooper reg

you can use the formula of:

(current deeds*100) + (level*100) + 101 = SILVER amount needed for new deed. or the (SILVER amount needed/3) amount in gems.

my SILVER amount needed is 10001 and I have a gem worth 3333... it will not work. I can however drop that, then drop 2 additional silver and I will get a deed. This formula works flawlessly until 60 deeds, after that it will not hold up.

You ask the gem dealer to appraise the contents of a rugged gear satchel.
The gem dealer takes the rugged gear satchel and inspects the contents carefully before saying, "There are 13 items that I do not deal with at all. I did find 6 gems that I'll give you 2151 silver for, if you want to sell."
The gem dealer then returns a rugged gear satchel to you.

I dropped ALL 6 of those gems.. 2151 in gems should be 6453 total, at lvl 7 with 26 deeds.. I should only need 3401 in silver.

Whats the deal? reg

Is there a gem/item limit? That's the only thing I could think of.

By the way... You could have given that 100k wasted deed to some new person and made their day.. what a waste.

Don't try and tell me how to spend my coins. I didn't feel it was a waste, I learned something from it. And I didnt go in there knowing 100k was going down the drain.

You want to play the nice fellow and go give away all your coins to newbies, go ahead. Don't expect me to though. reg

The temple formula *might* be different after you pass a certain amount of deeds.

And I didnt go in there knowing 100k was going down the drain.

I thought you only spent around 6k? reg

Yeah.. only 6400 coins or so.. 2100 in gems this time.

I believe he was referring to the first post with the lvl 62 character, when he mentioned 100k. reg

You're aware you're paying the absolute minimum, right? Try dropping 100 silvers more next time. It's always a good idea to have an extra couple hundred silvers as a buffer when getting deeds in the temple. reg

A formula doesn't change because you are using the minimum reg

No, but there are many unknowns in the formulas of Gemstone. We can come close to figuring them out but be juuust a little off.

Why on earth worry about a relatively small difference? I always have tossed a bit extra in every time, its simply prudent. reg

It actually took 600 extra gold, that's more than 1/4th off, that formula isn't missing a variable, it just flat out isn't true. reg

That formula has never failed to work for me, not in almost 10 years now. If something new has been done to change the way deed monies are figured, then it's hardly the fault of the people who make an honest attempt to at least come close to the true formula. Please head on over now to profession topics and whine about the inexactitude and incorrectness of the CS formulas, the DFRedux formulas, the damage factor formulas, and a lot of others things that players have gone through a lot of trouble to at least approximate when we can't exactly know algorithm that controls those game functions. Thank you for playing.

As others have said, the formula has worked very well for the past 10 years. However, Gemstone is an ever changing and evolving game, so it's possible a new variable has been added recently.

If you'd like to figure out a new formula yourself, by all means do. reg
