Caster vs. Swinger

So this one has been beat to death before; but why not dredge it up again. Who gets the short end of the stick? In my opinion its the swinger (keep in mind that I am a swinger and have played swinging professions to much higher levels than I have casters). Unless the caster is level 5 or younger (in which case he doesnt fight) the caster usually has a distinct advantage in these kind of battles, until a swinger gets into his mid 20's I think he has no chance against a sorc (without skills like sweep or spells like quake) and after that I think his chances are still quite low.

I would say casters have the advantage, but squares have a few tricks they can use to turn the tables.

As a rogue of 21st train, I've yet to lose a duel to anyone. That includes a sorcerer at 27th train.

I'm in CoL though, volners results may very, and I have a very high TD for my age.

Basically you need to get your opponent on the ground or in offensive stance.

I hide and stalk the opponent, then I use a macro of the following:

sign madness, stumble left , (knocking us both down) stand, stance off, amb person head. That's won me over 15 duels in and of itself.

Casters have the advantage though, able to Ewave people out of hiding and then cast almost right away without RT.

Since I duel in 5x plate I get a bit of help in the TD area, and with sign of dissipation it's usually around 110 with a -20 to 25 CvA.
By the way, nice to finally see a dueling folder. reg

Depends really... A sorcerer can't implode someone he can't find and sure sorcerers have e-wave but that's what stalking is all about. Magic casters in general are so weak against guild attacks and it only gets worse with age. Personally I think at the older ages and I mean much older ages a square can handle a magic caster if each dueler only has access to spells in his sphere like in the rift.

Heh... personally I think wizards have it the best for PvP but no matter what the case is, it's very entertaining watching two squares duel rather then watching two spell casters duel.

In my honest oppinion, if you have a descently trained character its even. What I have noticed always wins duels are always the person who know all the mechanics. The fella below said about stumbling. Lots of people nae know about that. I have yet to have used that...although I have yet to lose a duel to death. I am with Kranar on the idea wizards are the best... of course thats at an older age. Age does play a big determine on which profession is the strongest. Call wind and ewave wins duels. That simple.

Had'nt really considered guild skills to much. Back when I was 40ish (about 3 or 4 years ago) didnt have much in the way of guild skills. Now I don't even have a character past 15. The more I consider it the more I think the GM's have made it better for the sqaures. Personally, one of my fav. duels is ranger vs. rogue, those are always intresting. I also have to agree that two swingers dueling is much more intresting (but stance up is the way to go).
