Stalking is just to protect yourself in case he would have e-waved you out as opposed to pointing you out. The good thing about having someone point you out is that you get a free 2 seconds of roundtime to do some damage against them.

I used to have 40 ranks in hiding and with haste up, I was unstoppable. I used to duel people empty handed with no defensive spells on, heh. Just hide right away and stalk the person, or if they hide too, they have to point me out, and while they're in 2 seconds of roundtime, I go in for the kill.

I still say you should have won that one though...
