If your character was impressive, you wouldn't have to put the disclaimer of age in the first place. reg

What's your chars age?

Sonic reg

That's pretty ironic that you tell pudgee if his character wasn't impressive he wouldn't need a disclaimer. I think his comment was meant that he only fights people way older than him, as pudgee's probably owned more people double and triple his age than most anyone. Pudgee is hardcore. Then, he should have put:

"I'm still waiting for a challenge regardless of age." reg

Let me guess, at level 2 he beat a level 6 guy?

Sonic reg

>>"I'm still waiting for a challenge regardless of age."

The reason why I said "around my age" is because there isn't anyone that will duel me around my age so I HAVE to fight people nearly twice my age. I can't say "regardless of age" because it's obvious that usually the older person will win such as with spike, boil, or just due to training (better spells and more defense ranks). It sucks not being able to use any of my warding spells due to people being so old so the only spell I CAN fight with is guidance.

I normally duel people that are 40-60 because older than that, and things get out of hand and that's when I need some sort of handicap. But yes, I've also killed many Rifters as well...but that's only due to handicaps for obvious reasons. Normally when it comes to that huge a difference in levels...first one to get their shot off wins and that's kind of boring and not a fun fight...especially since the only weapon I can use is my crossbow against them. I want to be able to actually swing my lance and use my warding spells...but due to people being twice my age, I can't. So that's why I said "around my age", ya know?

- Pudgee

edited: PS, I'm a level 27 halfling cleric...and the reason why I posted in the first place was due to Alfador saying that too bad nobody has any impressive characters who duel. And well, being an impressive character is the whole reason why nobody will even fight me near my age. So yeah, I want someone impressive too so I can fight them as well...and be able to use my darn warding attacks and such so it's more fun on my end.

For me, impressive would be being able to say regardless of age - and able to back it up.

With the half-ass training/stats that most of the Rift people have (and lack of experience that they also have since quite a few are bought souls) - its not overly surprising that a person in their 20s is able to take them out. reg

If you feel that the "half-assed" comment was applicable to you - then why would I even bother wasting my time?

Nonetheless, put up 10 mill as a bet for the duel to make it worth my while for a repeat performance, (because obviously everyone down there has a short memory) and I'll show it yet once again.

If thats agreeable - we'll coordinate a suitable 3rd party to hold the money, which is to be given to the winner at the conclusion of the duel. reg

Alright, tell me exactly how, on their own abilities, can a level 27 cleric take out a level 100 person? Let's see, there's no way in hell they can ward them, and their defense is obviously a lot higher than the 27 year olds offense. All the 100 year old has to do is stay in defensive and cast a warding spell at them.

Like I said, I can kill up to level 60 year olds with no handicap, but after that, it's obvious that there's nothing that can be done to take out anyone higher than that due to flat out training and spells granting them a higher DS than the other's offense. And for any age-based attacks such as implosion, boil, e-wave, and call wind, good luck on that too.

When it comes to such a huge gap in ages, the older clearly wins as they only need to cast one spell. Heck, I used to duel people empty handed with no defensive spells on as my mage because it was so rediculous. Toss up haste, hide and stalk the person in under a second, then just e-wave them out if they're hiding or e-strike them if they're not. Real challenge there because no matter WHAT spell I cast, my e-wave will always hit them and my e-strike will always hit them.

You can have a half-assed trained Rifter, and no matter what, there is still NO WAY anyone can take you out that is much younger than yourself...assuming you're trained in weapon and shield use and are in defensive. Also 6 out of the 8 professions can cast warding spells so there is no need to go into any stance other than defensive/guarded. And again, this is using ONLY your own abilities. If I were able to use a call wind item, then yeah, I could take out anyone regardless of age and back it up, but then again, we use our own abilities.

So exactly how impressive is YOUR character that they're able to kill people regardless of age? Oh, I'm sure he's probably 80-160 so you can talk all the trash you want, heh. Let's see what you can do with a character much younger than that...on your own abilities. It's also be neat if you could mix up your fighting if you're the type that only boils, spikes, or implodes. Now THAT takes skill.

- Pudgee

PS - Find me someone who's 27 with a self-cast attack strength of 455 that ignores weapon parry. :)

Thats the point - a level 27 person taking out a level 60++ or whatever age person is NOT impressive.

As you alluded to in your remarks - the best level 27 person still sucks compared to a mediocre level 160 person. Their skills/spells simply overwhelm what you can do.

So, a totally cheesy level 160 person is better than the level 27 person. What's there to be impressed about that?

Cheesy is cheesy - no matter how you try to package it. And a level 27 character, no matter how good, is cheesy.

I think making flat statements of "I can kill anyone in a duel" (as opposed to a random assassination attempt without warning) and being able to back it up with NO disclaimers is much more impressive than saying "I can kill someone that is within XX trainings of me, that uses self-cast spells, no magical equipment, its on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, I get to attack 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th times before you can respond and the moon is in an eclipse".

>Pudgee, I'll take a bet you can't beat Magister even with a call wind item. - Alfador

Yeah, because due to age, call wind won't really work. The only real way I could ever beat him (I don't even know who he is so he could probably be level 140 or whatever) is to trip him with my lance to knock him down in roundtime, use the call wind to hopefully lower his stance, then shoot him with a 485 attack strength. Unless, of course, how it seems how he likes to duel, is to not fight on his own powers so he'd probably be spelled to the hilt with every spell available in-game.

>>Again, if you were truly impressive - you wouldn't have to keep bringing up disclaimers of age, own abilities or anything else. You simply wouldn't care because it wouldn't matter if you were truly impressive. -Magister

The only reason why I bring up age into the matter is because NO one around my age will fight me because of how strong am I which is why I have to resort to fighting level 40-60 year olds...which I win nearly every time (except I'm 50/50 against someone who started using my mage dueling tactic, heh). Heck, I'm already at a handicap of them being older than me with more skill ranks, spells, and such, and another for me only being able to use guidance since my warding spells won't touch them due to their age.

Disclaimer of own abilities? Um, that's the only way people on the boulder fight...with their own abilites. Not being some warrior with every wizard spell on, wall of force, and anything else you can imagine. You call that skill?

>I think making flat statements of "I can kill anyone in a duel" (as opposed to a random assassination attempt without warning) and being able to back it up with NO disclaimers is much more impressive than saying "I can kill someone that is within XX trainings of me, that uses self-cast spells, no magical equipment, its on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, I get to attack 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th times before you can respond and the moon is in an eclipse". - Magister

You know, there's a reason why in boxing, there is a featherweight, middleweight, heavyweight, etc. category...and there is also reasons why people can fight in multiple divisions too. You obviously aren't going to match up a 100 pound boxer vs a 300 pound boxer. But hell, this 100 pounder owns the belt for his division...and belts for a couple divisions above him as well.

The only real fighting rule we have on the boulder is to be self-cast, and that's it. You can use magical equipment if the person allows. I always allow it as it lets me use mine too. But sometimes, it does get a little rediculous. Picture two warriors fighting and then they each use wall of force, wizard shield, and tons of other spells. You're now at a stalemate since they can't even hit each other. As far as the rest of that with the "I get to attack 4 times before you even respond" and other sayings, that's laughable. Once the countdown has been said, the fighting begins. The only real handicaps that happen is when the two limit certain spells such as boil/spike/imposion etc as that requires absolutely NO skill whatsoever...nothing even close to "I get 4 attacks before you get one".

>>I guess ultimately it boils down to how easily people are impressed. Apparently, you are far more easily impressed than I. - Magister

That's an easy statement to make, assuming you're of an old age. -yawns- Not impressed.

So do you still have a character under 50 (oh my god, there's that unimpressive limitation again, boohoo) to challenge me? Oh wait, nevermind, you probably don't watch boxing nor do you have an impressive character as age is probably your only benefit in a fight. Skills are impressive, not age. So exactly what skills do you have?

Who's the punk? The one who only takes on people younger than them or the one that even takes on those older than them? Older than them within reason that is. (ie: no 50 year old vs 150 year old..common sense)

Assuming you're not level 150 or whatever, Gossard just challenged you. Are you going to back down or what? Here, stick me at level 150, and I would gladly challenge you. But then, of course, you wouldn't do it as your only benefit is having more trainings over the other.

Man, if I still had my wizard, I would gladly challenge you, even if you were 150 as I was only 88 or so. You know why? Because it's the skills that matter...age doesn't save you every time.

And as a side note, you're the only who's most claiming to be bad ass. ;) All I want is to find someone comparable to my skill who's around my level without having to resort to killing older folks because those are the only ones who will challenge me...yet fail most of the time. You're the one who dragged on this thread all because I wanted to find someone around my age to fight.

I don't know about you, but what do you consider a fun fight? I'd like to be able to use all my skills, ya know? Not be limited to one or two spells. As an example with age..the only way a level 50 year old can take out a 150 year old is to rapid fire dispell them before attacking them. I don't really find that to be a fun fight.

Go to a boxing match and see someone knocked out the first round all because they paired a 300 pounder vs a 100 pounder and you'll see the crowd get pissed off as they wasted their money. However, pair two 200 pounders together with similar attributes and watch the fight go back and forth, and that'll be a fun fight to watch. All I'm asking is to find someone around my age with similar attributes so I can have a fun fight and use all my skills, but nobody will take me up on it.

And back to what impresses me...yep, if I saw some little 15 year old kid on the street beating up huge 25 year olds. I'd find that impressive as hell. No different here. However, take that 15 year old and pair him up against some karate master, and you have no contest. I wouldn't find that impressive, but the non-impressive part would be against the karate guy as he's totally down-classing someone. However, when you take on and can beat someone who even out-classes yourself, yep, I find that impressive. So while that 15 year old got his butt whooped against that karate master, he's still impressive as hell for beating up those tough 25 year olds.

As I've stated quite plainly several times, but apparently was not blunt enough:
SELF-CAST, NOT SELF-CAST, or whatever else thats within the realm of reasonability (i.e. you don't get to respond to my attacks, or I get to cast 125 on you, and then minor sanct and if you leave the room, I win, or if I die first but you die, I still win or other stupid non-sense, etc, etc.), it doesn't matter to me.

Heh, I actually would have done that bet if I still had my wizard. I would have put that bet down with a handicap in your favor of me having no defensive spells on while being empty-handed. While you may think I'm full of it of saying it because that character went demonic, I HAVE made huge bets in the past...albeit, not 10 million, but up to 3 million, multiple times.

Fun, and impressive are not necessarily related.

Impressive is being able to smoke someone - and them not being able to do anything to you within any set of semi-reasonable circumstances.

As I've said - obviously we differ on whats impressive.

Ah, I see.

I can beat everyone my age. Does that make me a punk? Now the people see that I can beat almost anyone my age, so someone 10 years older than me tries to shut me up and make me feel stupid except now I beat them. Is that a punk when they came to me?

Okay, now that I can beat people my age and 10 levels over me, people now try to "teach me" and "show me" who's boss so someone 20 levels older than me fights me...and they lose. I dunno, this doesn't sound like being a punk when it's OTHER people who are much OLDER coming to the person who's younger than them...who isn't claiming to "ownz" everyone.

Okay, and now people 30 levels over me come to fight me because they figure I've got to give sometime...except I beat them too with the occasional loss. Then people 40 levels come, 50, all the way up to 100. I dunno, I wouldn't call that being a punk. All I'm looking for is a fun fight. I'm not claiming this and that, you're just the one baiting me trying to make me say it. It's the punks that are way older than me trying to score an easy win that are the punks...and because I can beat them, it somehow makes me a punk? I don't think so.

All I'm trying to do is find some kickass skilled character that is around my age so we can all use our skills against each other. Quite frankly, killing people twice my age is boring as hell because I can't even use all my skills and I'm limited to using only one of my weapons since I can't touch them with the other ones. I'm not the one going out claiming to be big and bad fighting older people...it's the older ones that are coming to me because they want to try and "shut me up" because I basically own my age bracket when I don't even flaunt it. You know, basically them doing exactly what you're doing.

This is 2 different positions entirely.

Looking for someone to duel thats a challenge (and/or fun around your age), and the other, inferring that your character is impressive is always going to draw close scrutiny.

Heh - not even remotely the same thing. I never brought age as a disclaimer in the first place. For all you know, I could be level 1, or level 500. reg

I still don't understand what money has to do with this, if you don't want to duel me just say so. To be honest I don't have 10m to throw around. I issued you a challenage, if you want to be a man and accept it fine, or if you want to keep bringing up the money issue fine, but I just see is as an excuse to not duel me, I mean after all I am just some new kid who thinks he's some bad ass punk right?

Time is money. If I'm going to take my time away from other areas - I should make it worth my while to do so.

After all, it will simply be someone else with a new "manly challenge" in a few months anyway. reg

Heh, talk about high and mighty.

C'mon, you can spare 5 minutes away from these boards, really, you can.

And you say we're the punks when we're the ones who don't turn down duels. What was it you said earlier? Laughable? Yep, fits well here.

My character IS impressive, and this isn't me talking but rather the many people that go "wow" every time they see me. You don't have to be able to beat level 150 characters to be impressive, but then again, you already said we both differ in what we feel as what is impressive or not. If my character is not impressive, then why won't anyone near my age, except those at least 15-25 levels higher than me, duel me because they always say "you'll win"?

I can beat people twice my age, that's good enough for me considering how low of a level I am compared to others. My character is mainly built around hunting, not dueling -- that's secondary. If I wanted to duel, I would have copied myself except been a ranger instead of a cleric to use spike. I made no ballsy statements of being god in dueling, but I will make it in regards to hunting. ;) Where's Zent? -whistles-

Magister,
Pudgee is an awesome dueler, deal with it, i liked to see you take down someone 30-40 trains over you, with them NOT even having a chance, thats how it is with pudgee, they dont have a chance against not one in hell, I've seen'em duel, hes hardcore, and i bet if you were 65 or undedr he'd wreck you too, with out even breaking a sweat, but i know for a fact you can't take someone down 30-40 trains over you without them even having a remote chance at all. so stop acting liek your hardcore, stop talking the talk, and walk the walk, you got a big mouth back it up, uuhh bet me 10m thats just a lame excuse cause you knmow your gonna get your ass handed to you, you know no one is ognna pay it, so you say 10m cuase your to damn scared, grow up

I killed Masgister the first time I tried. It's not impossible. Plus he left it open for yas. Borrow a immolation blade. Or some item that might give you an edge in a battle. Thaliors eye. The mage rechargeable meteor storm wand. Tons of items out there.

Ask Alfador. He use to put people in place with his immolation blade.

So there are ways to bet anyone at any age in the lands.

Heh, I remember I used to duel Ooey and Locklii with their immolation weapons and would beat em every time...and this was being empty-handed with no defensive spells on. Mmm, hasted mage with many ranks in hiding...nearly unstoppable.

As for all those items you mentioned, Edge, those take absolutely no skill to use. Wave sword, ooo wow. Stare with an eye, cool. Wave a meteor rod and kill the person...and yourself which results in no winner. Not to mention exactly HOW many of those items are in the game? Hell, I, and most others, do all our damage with basic gear, now that takes skill and tactics. But then again, we all have our opinions of what's impressive and not.

Since you all have such lapses in memory in the first place - the duel has to have enough sting for you to recall it 2-3 months from now when the new kid on the block is king of the boulder, and wants to present his "manly challenge".

Otherwise, I'd end up spending my time non-stop knocking off mosquitos on the boulder.

As far as immolation blades, thalior's eye, or whatever else - you can stipulate those as useable, or not, it doesn't make any difference.

Beating someone XX levels above you isn't impressive to me.

Beating ANYONE regardless of what set of reasonable circumstances that are laid out - thats impressive.
.
.
.
And I've laid out the challenge for you on several occasions - and you continue to skip over it. So here it is once again:
You, or anyone else that you want to stand in for you, under any set of reasonable circumstances, bet 10 mill for 1 duel - winner gets the pot.

Come now...the entire boulder squad of professional know-it-all-uber-god-ultra-impressive duelers aren't able to raise 10 mill collectively for 1 duel against an outsider non-professional?

That's impressive in its own right. reg

I can't believe skill is even being talked about in reference to gemstone. Gemstone is such a friggin easy game, even a "crappy" character is extremely viable in most all areas. You can complete level 0-160 in the most basic of gear, and even train in a somewhat unorthodox manner.

Mike reg

Actually. Making up dueling macros has no skill in it at all.

Lol, wow. The duel has to have enough sting for us to recall it 2-3 months from now? No wonder why you're posting what you post, because you're so darn disgruntled for that never happening to you. Are you upset that you're the big cheese yer not remembered when new kids on the block are and get to steal your glory?

Amazing how you keep talking smack - but continue to ignore (or recant) your own challenges, or those made by me.

Anyone that lacks focus enough to not be able to carry a coherent discussion, certainly would need a stiff reminder for something as far away and distant as a few month time period.

Incoherent trains of thought like the following:

Of which Alfador called you on - and then you backed down, with this:

Originally posted by Pudgee:
>Pudgee, I'll take a bet you can't beat Magister even with a call wind item. - Alfador

Yeah, because due to age, call wind won't really work.

And then you come up with a new challenge with this:

quote:
Originally posted by Pudgee:
The only real way I could ever beat him (I don't even know who he is so he could probably be level 140 or whatever) is to trip him with my lance to knock him down in roundtime, use the call wind to hopefully lower his stance, then shoot him with a 485 attack strength. Unless, of course, how it seems how he likes to duel, is to not fight on his own powers so he'd probably be spelled to the hilt with every spell available in-game.

Of which I responded with:

quote:
Originally posted by Magister:
As I've stated quite plainly several times, but apparently was not blunt enough:
SELF-CAST, NOT SELF-CAST, or whatever else thats within the realm of reasonability (i.e. you don't get to respond to my attacks, or I get to cast 125 on you, and then minor sanct and if you leave the room, I win, or if I die first but you die, I still win or other stupid non-sense, etc, etc.), it doesn't matter to me.

With which you caved and crawfished yet again, and started yammering about how Age was now an issue for you:

quote:

And when I say fine - lets not make age an issue with:

You ultimately try to avoid the issue completely - ignore the relevant remarks and try to throw it as some ego issue on me (which has nothing to do with responding to the umpteenth challenge issued to you), when you responded here first about how impressive your character is.

Obviously - you have an ego as well. Only difference is, I'm willing to back mine up.

Keep the facts straight. And its obvious that since you aren't even a person of honor enough to live up to their boasts in this forum - you certainly wouldn't be a person of honor to fulfill any rules or obligations earned from a duel.
.

How about this for a new issue for you to brag about as being really impressive -
Which one of you has the best Level 0 character and is able to beat people INFINITELY times their level? (Which is certainly far better than a mere XX levels above someone for sure.)

All those remarks you quoted from me was due to you baiting me into saying them. Like I said, I'm not here claiming to be big and bad how I can take out anyone. All I asked for was someone well-trained like myself around my age to fight, but because there are none, I have to resort to fighting people two times my age due to them trying to punk me, as you seem to think I'm the one being a punk.

I'm not a freakin moron who's going to duel a 200+ sorcerer as I know my own abilities. I like fighting within my abilites...without having to resort to using cheesy items like an immolation blade. And that's why my initial post was in regards -- I've still yet to have a challenge from anyone near my age.

Just because I CAN and HAVE killed people 30+ years older than me, it doesn't mean I like to as those are boring as hell fights because the only thing I can/get to do is fire off my crossbow and that's it. I'm multi-talented so I like being able to use all my other skills, but unfortunately since there's nobody that will fight me around my age, I can't use my other skills which puts me at a sever handicap and leads to a boring one attack fight.

You like sitting and being king up on the mountain, but it's quite lonely up there as I can tell from your posts. Down here where the real action is taking place is where all the fun is. But unfortunately, I like fighting within my skill range (raaaaange, new word for you?). If that means I can't kill level 200+ people on my own skill (special items not included), then that's fine. I'm impressed, other's are impressed, but obviously you aren't as you're lonely high up there on that mountain. Sorry if my training is getting more attention than those levels you strived for, poor disgruntled chap.

>>Which one of you has the best Level 0 character and is able to beat people INFINATELY times their level? (Which is certainly far better than a mere XX levels above someone for sure.) - Magister

Ooo, wow, immolation blade, such skill for that young 0 training guy. That's basically the type of "impressiveness" you're looking for...someone who can win duels, not based on their skill or training, but due to some special item.

Yep, if I still had my immolation jeddart-axe, I could say "I can kill anyone regardless of age" and back it up, but quite frankly, to me and others, that's not a fight. I'm using my own skills within my own abilities, so if that doesn't mean I can't kill anyone "regardless of age", well, it sure isn't hurting my feelings.

So I ask again, is there anyone around my age that cares to duel?

- Pudgee reg
