The Players Corner Archive

It's the Community

I started playing in November 1995, and attended my first player gather in 1996 - Vegas. While I immensely enjoy playing Ylena, what keeps me coming back day after day is the player community both in and out of game.

Vegas 96 was a blast. Every SimuCon has had its share of memorable moments. Leaving the game stuff aside, GS has a wealth of interesting and vivacious personalities spanning a dizzying array of ages, professions, and other interests. What do we all have in common? We're reasonably bright, or we couldn't handle the screen scroll, and we all love to talk. (And for a bunch of internet geeks... damn, can we party!)

I think why I get so down about the anti-GS sites is because I genuinely like 95%+ of the people I meet out of game. They're friendly, open people who enjoy the company of those around them.

I've made thousands of friends in the last (almost) six years. I've been fortunate enough to meet a bunch of them face to face. There's lots that I'll never get to reality smooch, but I love all of them, too.

It's not about the mechanics for me. Numbers are fun now and again, and I have to admit, I'm on my own extended powerhunting thing right now... but the real magic of GS is in the relationships you forge. I've made the best friends I've ever had in my life because we share GS as a common interest.

Hi Ylena!

Great to have you aboard, and a nice change of pace from some of the more negative topics often seen.

Ylena,

Oh if I could only tell you who I was. You have been a wonderfull friend to me in the game.

Glad to have you here. Bring some friends and drop me a note if you ever need anything.

Ylena, you are amazing I still wish I could play the flute half as well as you! reg
Okay I gotta say this. Bucky if you delete this post I will hurt you

I had the opportunity to RP for a couple of hours with the Esteemed Buckwheet (different persona of course). He is great! For all his talk about mechanics and issues and number crunching and this that and the other thing - he's terrific.

I won't go into details - I hate seeing punk twit boulder-crowd snerts blush. But anyone who is thinking "that" ::squints:: just get it right out of your head. This was the G-rated RP.

::grin::

Huh... roleplay? You mean the Boss was actually playing? I thought he was busy working on that "Back Pages" thingy.

Back to work, Slacker! Jeez, can't take your eyes off these people for a minute.

Back Pages thing? That's cute, my email and every linux account I have is back_pages.

I haven't had anything but a passing conversation with Ylena, but on the official boards she's always worth reading. Too bad I've been banned from there again. Damn McCarthyism.

In my limited experience, what I enjoy most about Ylena is that everytime I've run into Ylandra, without ME saying a word, she always blurts out "I AM NOT YLENA!" My response is always, "Yeah, I know," but it always cracks me up. She's done that to me at least three times. It makes me think of Michael Bolton in the film Office Space. reg

I met Ylena around the time of the Feithidmor... I was 6 trains (for the fifth time) and she led a group of people to Icemule to keep them from being killed by the banana's (banaltra - for those who were not around). She has always been kind to me. Welcome to the Players Corner, Ylena.
