Vegas 96 was a blast. Every SimuCon has had its share of memorable moments. Leaving the game stuff aside, GS has a wealth of interesting and vivacious personalities spanning a dizzying array of ages, professions, and other interests. What do we all have in common? We're reasonably bright, or we couldn't handle the screen scroll, and we all love to talk. (And for a bunch of internet geeks... damn, can we party!)
I think why I get so down about the anti-GS sites is because I genuinely like 95%+ of the people I meet out of game. They're friendly, open people who enjoy the company of those around them.
I've made thousands of friends in the last (almost) six years. I've been fortunate enough to meet a bunch of them face to face. There's lots that I'll never get to reality smooch, but I love all of them, too.
It's not about the mechanics for me. Numbers are fun now and again, and I have to admit, I'm on my own extended powerhunting thing right now... but the real magic of GS is in the relationships you forge. I've made the best friends I've ever had in my life because we share GS as a common interest.
