Where do you find RP?

In your time spent in Gemstone, where have you found roleplaying going on? I don't mean "events" where a GM-character is running some plotline or bringing a merchant in. I mean just normal day-to-day honest to god roleplay, where the characters behave like fantasy figures in a really great novel instead of the cartoon characters you see so often.

Examples of what I consider RP, so you know what I'm asking:

Watching an empath scrutinize the wounds on someone, then using the act verb, checking herself to make sure she can handle the task. Going over each wound carefully, maybe slapping bandages on the bleeding wounds so she can handle the less stressful ones first. Talking with her patient, seeing to his comfort, offering him a cup of hot tea to soothe him while she tends to his injuries.

That's one example.

Another might be a warrior discussing his recent conquest with a friend at the local tavern. Telling him how he was walking through the forest and an enormous feline came out from behind a bush and tried to claw his eyes out! Getting a nick to the face and a gash across the chest, he grabbed his trusty broadsword and wore the cat down until it was nothing more than a mass of fur.

That's a second example.

Here's a third:

A group is gathered together for a trek to IceMule. They are all very aware of their surroundings, pointing out things they see along the way, wondering how anyone could survive in the cold...one of them passes around mugs of coffee to keep them all warm, maybe a couple of them watch the frost gather on their beards as they breathe.

Just incredible, intense moments of RP that don't have to be attached to incredible intense "events" in the world.

Where have you seen these things, and what were they?

I dunno if anyone else was in the small park when it happened, but there was a guy sitting there with a scratched tin cup. He would sit there asking for silvers for a drink to keep him warm. He muttered to himself and even tiltied the cup, etc. His outfit was incrediable. He had ragged sandels, a dingy maroon cloak, and the like. Some of it looked like it was altered specifically for this role play. I was impressed none the less.

I'm not sure if it was the same person, but I use to see a similar person in the bank. He had a cup he would wave around and ask "Coins for the poor..". He always made me smile, and I thought it was pretty funny. A few times, I stopped to talk to him about his hardships, and enjoyed the interaction. I was disappointed at the number of people that thumped him, or yelled at him inappropriately.

I like things different and out of the ordinary. I wish I was original, or talented enough to think of unique ideas.

Everytime I go to RR I swear I find another great RP'er.

If you are referring to a character named "Ragid", then Thanks!! This is actually the first time I got complimented on my RP!!! Wooo Hooo!! uhm.. If your not talking about Ragid.. err.. sorry, ignore this post.

On another note.. I am finally bringing my sorcerer out of hiding and beginning to RP him.. he's quite an ass, and very rude. Please, if you see Galliard at the park, being a jerk, please understand that it's only RP and nothing personal. I try to whisper to specific people if I'm picking on them, but sometimes I miss them in screen scroll.

Thanks,
Fehyd

aye gilliard. jes watch who ye mess with in town...hehe. reg
Just about anywhere, but it depends on who you're talking to. I've seen one person who was having 'issues'; his Zelia statue was talking to him, but nobody else could seem to hear it.

In the same area, I've been asked if I knew what a spell did. The person then told me he had bought this character on Ebay yesterday and had never played this class before.

In case you're interested, the spell was implosion. reg

For a while, I went searching for RP. I spent time on the porch, I hung out at populated places...

But truly, if you want to see great RP, you need to create it. Some of my best RP has been when nobody is around but me to enjoy it...Sounds silly, but it was necessary to me for my characters' growth and storylines.

Some of my favorite RPing were dates with friends where we explored new places.

The sand castle.
The colossus.
The Shrines to the Gods
Go swimming at the Lake

If you take the time to look, you can find amazing things.

We had a funeral once for a friend who went demonic by accident. We did some planning, and the rest was done on the fly. It was an incredible night.

And sometimes, answer people who are looking to make friends/relatives etc. You never know how much something like that can set off a change reaction that will alter your life, in game and out

I don't think we're thinking of the same people -- But I knew someone who did that. Though, he said "Alms for the poor" and not coins. He also sat at the North Gate when people used to pick, raise and heal there. Can't recall his name though. Been probably 6 years since I've seen him.

I'll ask around and get his name from someone.

This game isn't about "finding" roleplay, but rather "creating" it.

Whenever I'm in a roleplaying mood, I have no problem trying to find someone else to roleplay. What I normally do is just go somewhere and start talking and acting out, and then everyone else seems to join in.

Auras are powerful, and everyone should use theirs.

Katt, are you thinking of Beggir? He also used to wear brown robes, a rope belt, and had a dented cup he used to wave around. I last remember seeing him around 4 years ago...He was great!

Actually to do with Desharei's post a rather long time ago(9-26-2001). I once got a decent amount of experience for talking with a huddled group of warriors inside the fortress about a stone troll that I blinded in one eye slightly after my fourteenth training that I affectionately named 'blinky'... Besides the RP bonus it was actually rather fun "stance dancing" my "ace" off trying to kill that stone troll at fourteen.

P.S. Blinky your mine! reg
