Roleplaying Alone?

For those who "are" their characters whenever they exist in the game:

What's your favorite thing to do when your character isn't with other people?

Here's mine, and it always involved Courtine, my bardess.

She LOVED the glatoph. Absolutely positively loved it. She thought it was the greatest thing to whack an ice giant, and bashing ice trolls was just SO much fun for her. She would try all sorts of different things - circling around them, giving them a shove and daring them to come closer, ducking and weaving, even giving them a poke. All of this of course was with the "act" command, and I never did anything that wasn't over the line of possible vs. impossible. In otherwords, my giantess never tried to drop-kick an ice troll - or pull its head off with her bare hands, since looking at them would show they still have their heads.

In all, that was my very favorite thing to do when I was playing without other people around, and once in awhile someone would show up and it would be a hoot when they would join in and become a part of my little scene.

My character likes to smoke, eat and drink when by himself.

He also does some of the stuff you mentioned when he hunts, Desharei, though not with the act commands. Usually it's along the lines of wincing, scowling and grimacing. Oh, and of course the 'cover' verb with a shield in the hand, that's really good.

Soandso ducks behind their shield! reg

Klaive likes to perform magical cantrips when hunting. Sometimes he'll raise his fist skyward and it'll become surrounded by blue electricity and he'll pound it into the ground and send a shockwave throughout the area (Quake). Or maybe he'd RP with monsters, laughing at them... mocking them... inviting them to join his armies... ect.

I RP more when alone than any other time. Hehehehe.

Just me but I think it's not RPing when you're the only one witnessing it. I think it only assists my carpal tunnel when I RP alone, there's no point to it except a lot of extra typing.

Going to have to disagree with you. Role playing means just that...playing a role. That means being that person all the time, not just when others are around to see it. Are you only Bianca when your family and friends are in the room, or are you Bianca all the time, even when by yourself? reg

Yeah, RPing is playing a role.. but I don't log into Gemstone just to play a role. If I wanted to RP like that, I could be playing a Final Fantasy game and pretend I'm Cloud or whatever the heck the next main character is called. I guess I should have specified. The big difference is interactive RPing, and that's what I'm into.

I talk to myself, the critters, the townguard, the bank teller....

Summer reg

Giving 10 million silvers to the fortune teller expecting to get a really good reading. However it didn't even spark the curiosity of a GM.

Buckwheet reg

I thought it was a stroke of genius, Bucky. No idea why the fortuneteller didn't run out and make a brand new crystal ball just for you!

I think Klaive mentioned in "Sex in Gemstone" that he also supports RPing alone in those situations. Maybe I misread...heh

Rysh has been known to sit and tell her troubles to the town kitten, and to try to convince little kobolds to mend their ways. She mutters about her frustrations when alone, goes off and pouts when hurt or angry ...there's a lot she does when nobody is looking.

For me, roleplaying alone is a way of identifying with my character. It helps me to define her as a person.

Since I play a rogue mostly... I spend lots of time RPing with (er.. screaming at) the NPCs in the rogue's guild. Especially when I'm trying to do stun maneuvers.

I also used to live in River's Rest (long time ago). When the aardvark first showed up my character started messing around with it. Turns out a GM was watching and gave me an RPA.

reg

Ah yes.. screaming at the guild masters. My rogue does that quite a bit. Especially when they're playing slap hands. She tries to flirt with them and distract them so that she'll win more. Sometimes I think she loses more than she should cause they like it. reg
I think I tend to RP alone more than i do with other people.

Aerienne loves to commune at the Linden tree. She'll shout insults at the monks and initiates or scowl and taunt them when she's in a mood.

I've RPed out conflicts between different characters of mine that involved other people, as well as two different ones of mine on the same account.

I do it for the fun of it. RP is being someone else...And shouldn't be just whenever I feel like it. Although sometimes, I admit I like to just being a hunting machine...
