A What? The Weapon Name Guide

Ever gone to a merchant and wondered what the heck the items sitting on the weapons table are? This section is for you!

This list is rather old. If you have additions, please let us know!

Also, some items on this list are now banned and will no longer be made, such as the katanas. Eastern/Asian weapons are now considered out of genre. They remain on the list so you know what category the remaining ones should fall into.

I found this site to be of great help in weapon show design!

http://www.art-with-attitude.com/village/weapons.html

Searching either http://www.dictionary.com or http://www.google.com is also useful. On the search field for Google, use the weapon name + weapon. ie. balta+weapon. reg

Google is the best search engine for just about everything, IMHO.

Simple no-frills website, bare-basic graphics so it doesn't take forever to load up, and it has links to some of the most obscure and interesting places on the web!

For medieval fantasy genre information, whether it's genuine clothing or Ren-Faire fairy crowns, Google is the place to look!

Are you sure Taavish is correct? I have one that is a one handed blunt that doesnt puncture.

edge reg

didn't see skewer-- they still even make those?

also warball, but i just heard about those, never "seen" one.

oh, and some sound advice, if your not a fan of macro/scripts-- think twice before getting a long and strange weapon name.

I like my craquemarte because its unique, but it took me awhile to get used to typing craq instead of crac crauq crouq, etc. etc.

My personal experience with weaponry in Elanthia has been with OHEs. I did a bunch of searchs of Taavish, and find the results a bit contradictory... So, since you are the owner of a Taavish, tell me which category the Taavish belongs in, and I will move it. It would be great if we can keep the list up-to-date, and accurate!

Grimslade's Encyclopedia of Elanthian Weaponry
Handaxe
Damage: Slash/crush
Description: Axes are made of a large blade attached to a wooden handle. These weapons hit very hard against HEAVY armored enemies. These hit the best against full plate out of all the other edged weapons. Very popular weapon.
Other names: Cleaver, francisca, hatchet, waraxe, kaskara, taavish.

Tiny's Stomping Grounds:
taavish: stone axe with the wooden handle carved at the end to represent a man's head; stone blade is fitted into the handle and represents the tongue reg

The only skewers I know of are the rat skewers. Logic says it would be a rapier, but I've clue.

Any else?

And I've never even heard of a war ball....

::coughs::

Aerienne reg

Ive heard of warballs.. and brass knuckles and a broken bottle that someone apparantly has.. all three are claimed to be brawling weapons.

The only skewer I have seen is a 1x/1x defender. And it was a rapier.

Also, some names have been used with different bases pretty often. There are khopesh with a falchion base, never seen one with scimitar base. But I am sure half the things in the lands have had a different base at one time or another. Not to mention when things get altered.

I also ran across a few new brawling weapons on the pawnshop floor yesterday. Heres the ones I picked up, although there were a few more I didnt get my hands on.

a jackblade
a yierka-spur
a cestus
a knuckle-blade reg

Are brawling weapons in their own category? Or are there also subcategories for those as well?

I'd like to pop those in the original post as well, but I'd like to make sure they go in the right spot. ::chuckles;:

Aerienne reg

Brawling weapons have their own category. reg
