Hopefully, at some point in your character's life, you realized that double leathers, a heavy backpack, and a belt pouch are not exactly what one can consider high fashion in Elanthia.

When I first started playing, every pretty item that came off a hob found its way into my character's wardrobe. She looked like a refugee from Value Village.

Life became even scarier when I found the delights of the Dyer's Tent. I was a glittering golden horror. Of course, I realize that now, but once upon a time, I was more intent on having pretty items in a color theme, before I started realizing that Aerie was wearing about 100 pounds of scarves, kerchiefs, pins, necklaces, and whatever else I could find.

It took a friend remarking that she looked like a golden mummy to make me rethink my character's wardrobe. The fact that Aerie's hunting RT was around 10 seconds without any boxes or coins and the 100 pounds of junk she was wearing had a correlation was news to me. I really started looking at what other people were wearing. Some go in for the bloodstained look. Others are austere and wear little more than a cloak and armor. Wizards are often distinguished by the black robes and pointy hats. The ones that I liked the most had an elegant theme, that looked good together, and didn't overwhelm me with a scroll. One lady I looked at was about 25 lines or so of filigreed items.

I finally came to my senses, and settled down with an image in my mind of what all of this junk would look like on a person. A third of it went down the well. The other third was given away. I found she actually had an ambushing RT of 5.

Today, my look is on the sultry, ultra feminine side. I've also had outfits of black leather and the Xena chainmail skirt and bodice look as well.

You see Lady Aerienne Woodlake the Sylvankind.
She appears to be in her 70's, has shoulder length, curly golden blond hair, green eyes, and fair skin.
She has a tattoo of a delicate jewel-toned wild orchid with glistening petals and gold-accented emerald green leaves twining around her thigh, and a long blond ponytail.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing a charming jewelled flower circlet, a burnished copper rose, a tiny diamond heart earring, a glowing amulet, a slender jewelled vine armlet, a shimmering jewelled silk cloak, a fitted elegant silver breastplate, a magnificent set of white wings, a fluffy jewel-collared kitten charm, a fitted emerald silk bodice clasped with a gleaming diamond heart, a slim waistchain of interwoven gold and silver strands adorned with tiny jewelled bells, an etched silver trinket case, a sparkling diamond-dusted sack, a sleek skirt layered with emerald silk veils delicately edged in jewels, an emerald green thigh-sheath, an anklet of tiny golden bells, and some petite backless slippers with tiny glass heels.

What look are you going for with your character? Do you have a color scheme? And do you change the theme occasionally?

Aerienne reg

You see Lord Adrenath D'Sparyl the Human.
He appears to be in his 50's, has short, wavy dark brown hair, blue eyes, and fair skin.
He has a long brown beard.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a gold ring, some rugged black leather boots, a wrist sheath, a silvery Jaston ring, a fire opal studded iron pendant, a bone-inlaid copper flask, a forest green herb satchel, a butterfly charm, some black silver-edged breeches, an iron-studded leather weapon harness, some ora-plated golden invar gauntlets, a green wool greatcloak, a shadowy black leather tool pouch, some polished mithril-linked brigandine, and a crystal amulet.

(sorry that's not in the head-to-toe order)

I was going for the 'practical outdoorsy' theme for my character.

He spends the majority of his time hunting and roaming around the outdoors, and so wears a lot of leather and earth type colors. I've thought about changing the theme occasionally when I spend long periods of time in Icemule, but for reasons of locker space, cost and time I don't. The main three colors of his are brown, green and black.

Nindy wears a lot of black and gold.

I must say I always loved my vulture pin something like a vulture pin with the words just because I'm an empath doesn't mean I'm nice. Always my fav reg
You look at yourself carefully in the full-length mirror...

You see Tresavian Selphium the Sylvankind Healer.
He appears to be in his 50's, has shoulder length, wavy silver hair, green eyes, and fair skin.
He is in good shape.
He is holding a blued and gilded vultite longsword in his right hand and a brown doe crested green shield in his left hand.
He is wearing some double leather, some sturdy traveller's boots, some supple brown leather gloves, a glimmering topaz pegasus medallion, a leather traveler's hat, a bright red traveller's cloak, a grass-stained canvas satchel, and a supple leather baldric.

Mostly going for the outdoorsy look.

Yes, I know the hat is a "traveler's" hat, and the cloak and boots are "traveller's". Because they're both legitimate spellings, the GMs refused to normalize it. Such is life. reg

Gnomad,

I've had the same problem with jeweled and jewelled...Both legitimate spellings, and even though I've some items already done as jewelled, I've had merchants who would refuse to spell it as jewelled because they prefer the other spelling or don't believe me when I said it can be both...

It is neat to see the thought that goes into everyone's attire.

I wear lots of black and silver, and recently started incorporating spiders and dragons into designs. One I can afford more alters, I am goona drop the spiders and go full dragon.

It bothers me because Tresavian and everyone else shouldn't see a differance between the two items. They're traveler's equipment; there shouldn't be a discernable differance. It's an OOC issue that should be easily resolved.

If someone points it out to me, I just say that the hat must be some sort of immitation, but that it keeps my head warm and dry, and that's what matters. reg

Okay, onto my more complex dresser.

Dal has a couple of "uniform", for lack of a better word. Battle, practice, dress, dress battle.

Battle:

You see Dalnirath Siekucha the Elf Swordsman.
He appears to be in his 60's, has shoulder length, wavy sandy blond hair, hazel eyes, and tanned skin.
He has a soaring black dragon tattoo on his leg, a crossed claidhmore tattoo on his arm, and a tattooed symbol of Voln on his leg.
He is wearing a long dark spidersilk cloak, some shining vultite platemail, a fitted spidersilk vest, a veniom bound bear hide sheath, a grey and green tartan greatkilt, a darkened mithril mesh backpack, and a Warrior Guild member pin.

(So glad I have a suit of shining armor, it fits his persona.)

Practice/Training (Rarely seen outside of the Warrior's Guild):

He has a soaring black dragon tattoo on his leg, a crossed claidhmore tattoo on his arm, and a tattooed symbol of Voln on his leg.
He is wearing an ice blue bandana, a pair of fitted satin breeches, and a Warrior Guild member pin.

The breeches are an alter (my only one, in a 6 year history), and with the vest, double as the mainstay of his dress clothing.

He's partial to mithril, and that's what his dress armor is. Dark gold mitril thighguards and bracers(which have the intentional side-effect of covering his tattoos), and some sort of mithril armor: plate, battleworn mithril chainmail, or the mithril-linked brig. Also usually wears a silver cross-slitted helm, and a mithril bound sheath. He'll usually carry a jade hilted silver longsword and a ceremonial silver buckler. I just don't have all those items with me, and am not in the mood to go digging through lockers.

On an average day around town, chances are Dal will be wearing his battle uni, often sans-platemail. On a warm Solhaven day, he might be found in his pratice uniform.

Edit: After reading this over, I finally broke down and made clothing scripts.

My attire had to do more with my goddess than my surroundings. I like to keep it simple, nothing longer than 4 lines of text.

You see Lord Phenomenon Sagitarius the Dark Elf Wizard.
He appears to be in his 60's, has long, straight black hair, grey eyes, and dark skin.
He has a tattooed symbol of Zelia on his arm, a soaring black dragon tattoo on his forearm, and a crescent moon tattoo on his neck.
He appears to be in good shape.
He is wearing a black spidersilk cloak embroidered with a silvery crescent moon on the back, a black crescent moon amulet, a translucent spidersilk gem pouch, some caravaner's leathers with a soaring red dragon stitched on the chest, a black Zelia symbol, and some rugged worn boots.

The cloak changes from week to week. That's my favorite one, though. I take some things on and off, like the boots, and the Zelia symbol, depending on my mood. The show for the pouch is:

The gem pouch has been expertly sewn together with black spidersilk threading. Stitched on the front of the pouch are six gold stars depicting "The Handmaidens" in the night sky. A single golden citrine star stands out among them all. A silver rolaren crescent moon clasp secures a firm close on the pouch.
So mainly a Zelia theme, since she rocks.

Here's my character's current outfit:

She is holding a painted wood daisy on a stick in her right hand.
She is wearing a ribbon-tied wildflower hair-wreath, some large fake pointed ears, an iridescent crystalline half-mask tied with delicate satin ribbons, a crystal amulet, a pair of gossamer silk wings veined with iridescent rainbow threads, a fitted front-laced bodice, a corsage of tiny wildflowers, a dainty pink flower basket, a small pink velvet pouch, a rainbow-hued petal skirt made from alternating layers of chiffon and satin, and some curly-toed boots.

I'm really quite pleased with it, but I would like to get the ears and pouch altered. reg

You see Maliku al-Amlak the Human Rhymester.
He appears to be in his 70's, has short, braided black hair, dark eyes, and black skin.
He has terrible scars from some serious neck injury.
He is holding a white-ash shafted golvern lance in his right hand.
He is wearing a gold ring, a crystal amulet, a black oilcloth cloak, some black leather sandals, some loose white hide breeches, a dark spidersilk backpack, a woven bamboo bag, a blackened bamboo flask etched with the sigils of Ronan, some ghostly white greaves, a black Ronan medallion, some tightly linked rolaren chainmail and a sand-dusted black turbaned helm.

Goin for the Ronan-following, mummy-hunting Tehir (nomad from the Sea of Fire). Try to keep it all black and white with some red at various times.

Maliku is actually part of an al Qaeda sleeper-cell. Soon he will unleash mein golems in populated places and blow us all up.

I also have a character who wears a turban. I took apart her outfit the other day, and had her frozen. I've had too many comments and jokes made in game to want to keep playing her right now. Out of the game I dont mind the jokes, but not when I'm trying to RP. This whole thing just took the fun out of her. :-( reg
You are holding a twisted obsidian staff capped with a golden beryl gem carved to resemble a jackal's head in your right hand and a blackened leather Sheru prayerbook in your left hand.
You are wearing a gold-trimmed dark blue kite shield, some smokey grey leathers, some ivory ichor-spattered fangs, a black onyx jackal medallion, a vaalin-inlaid black vultite crown etched with circular symbols of Sheru, a gold ring, a crystal amulet, a heavy backpack, a leering black demon tattoo, a black jackal's head tattoo, a sturdy dark leather gem pouch, a pair of slouched black leather half-boots with golden filigree at the heels, a silver pentagram earring, a black leather sheath, a mithril Twilight Hall pin, a hooded spidersilk cloak and an ebonwood jackal's head talisman.

Ill let you guess what kinda theme im goin for.

Really? I've not had any kinda bad feedback since the September 11th Attacks save a few joking friends out of game. I'm sorry you got such feedback. If you ever see me in game, we can have a little chat about the Tehir (the nomads inhabiting the Sea of Fire

It's a shame to hear you mothballed your character Faerie.

I've always thought it would be fun to be a Tehir. I even suggesting having a Tehiri camel train as a merchant event on the official boards.

Anyone know any good sites for Tehir? I'd love to learn more.

Aerienne

[This message has been edited by Aerienne (edited 11-26-2001).] reg

I'll agree that it is a shame that you've mothballed your character. I have several characters, some a few years old at least, who have arabic names. (both arabic sounding and actually arabic in origin)

Since the September 11th attacks only one of those characters has heard anything that would cause me to rethink playing him much. Interestingly, it was not my warrior who wears a turban and robes and fights with two khopeshs. His name is arabic sounding and looking enough that I honestly was bracing myself for someone to say something.

I'm quite interested in a chat about the Tehir. Some of us should get together and perhaps get something going.

I've decided to bring her back. I really did love that character alot. So if someone wants to organize a Tehir gathering let me know.

Anyone know where to go to get some decent info on the Tehir? I don't have a Tehiri character, but I think it would be fun to start one...And it would be really interesting if we could share backgrounds and see how we can keep the concept cohesive.

pondering the new possibilities for outfits... reg

Ok, what I've done to try to get this thread back on tangent, is to post a topic here for costuming ideas on Tehir, and one in the Roleplaying section on the actual RPing of a Tehir. Let's move to those threads for more discussion on the Tehir.

Back to the topic on this thread, I need to find a new outfit theme...Perhaps I should go velvet since it's winter...
