Hmm...

Got a small topic.

What _if_ everything were the same way it were 5, 6, or 7 years ago?

And no...we're not talking Platinum for all you braniaks that I know were going to answer with that.

I'm talking no changes to Haste, Raising, Treasure System, Lockpicking, Age Caps, Raising Experience, Skinning in Shadow Valley, Experience from Imbedding, Experience from WoR and WoO, Enchanting, Workshop Creations (Which I believe Drakne was next on the list to be picked for), etc.

Wouldn't this game be just as fun as it was when the entire screen was white and the FE was in the early early embryonic stages of becoming the overall accepted way to play GS?

I think it would've been better.

I wrote a paper once on this argument pertaining to RL situations.

Why change what we had? You look back on it and it was much better than the way it was before.

That's all...sorry for the long post reg

Everything must change. If something can not adapt, it will soon become extinct (just ask Eric Estrada). If there were no growth in the lands, then many would get bored rather quickly and leave. Think about it, yes you would have the old spells, but there would be no new hunting areas. So, like the lands, I will adapt to the changes and continue enjoying every new experience I can. However I do wish they would bring back red crystals, bronze cubes, and granite triangles, they were too much fun. reg
If things never changed, I probably would have left a long time ago.

I like having new challenges and new areas to explore. reg

I think this is a neat topic and glad you brought it up.

Many old time GS players like to look back to the past of GS as they believe it was best for them back then, then the way it is today.

My opinion is that change is nessecary, if there is one constant in the universe, it's change. Granted I will agree that there were certain aspects about the past that would have been good to keep, overall I'm happy to see GS as dynamic as it is.

Gotta love it when someone hasn't played for a year or two shows up and asks:

"So, what have I missed?"

- Lord Kranar, human Archwizard reg

TOo many mechanical changes, i feel after all that crap, alotta people shirked there roleplayin and jes talk bout that stuff in open and became a commonplace, i liked old times far better reg
How far back do you want to revert? Pre Solhaven? Pre New Server? Pre Icemule? Pre Teras Isle? Pre Thaw?

Do you want to go back to when the highest level critter was arch wights, everyone used Rapiers because of the low THT, and the plate armors sucks?

It's easy to say things were better back then. If time could work backwards, I wonder what people from back then would say about now. More towns, more people to interact with, new devestating spells, a new generation of artifact items...

I like Gemstone the way it is, however it is. When it changes I still like it. If I didn't I wouldn't play. reg

I'm talkin' thaw of course...

The greatest time that I ever had in GS was taking over 3 hours to figure out how to hunt and talk w/o reading the help files...I thought it was pretty fun.

I'll make a bold statement about this...

Why do we suffer for mistakes of a few people?

1. Enchanting (This has been abused for a long time) - a) you can attribute the downfall of workshops to one person buying Aanalar. It was kind of weird how Aanalar wasn't around very much...then one day you see him around all the time. I remember when Pan owned that workshop and I looked up to him, Odds, and Dart with the upmost respect. b) the entire realms becomes inflated due to the influx of tons of people abusing enchanting...Heh...Go buy your Dizman that's level 115 and has 3x mana sharing every level and you're an enchanting machine.

2) Imbedding - Kharl and Simmer. Although Simmer has been around for a while I still think that it's completely wrong that they were allowed to gain an unbelievable amount of levels w/o having any worries of being locked out...all that happened was that they changed imbedding and no longer could you learn off them at all. Heh...helps when Simmer can buy Maruko to help him gain more levels of course.

3) Skinning in Shadow Valley - Bloodsnake. She setup scripts that just sat in SV and skinned everything in sight. I remember someone telling me that she made over 10 million in 3 days. Just rediculous. What happened to her? No ban. Just changed the skin prices.

4) Infusing w/ several trainings in mana sharing per level (see 1.)

5) Decrease in experience given from raising - I don't understand this. Although I understand the need for something to stop body vultures...still beyond me.

6) Needing to Well before raising - I still have yet to understand this at all.

7) Age Cap - No comment.

8) Experience from WoO'ing and WoD'ing - I understand a change in this...but I mean comeon! Were people really getting that much experience from this? No.

9) Picking/Disarming experience - I'm both ways on this. For a while I didn't think this was a problem...however when I was in the east tower the other day and I saw a empath come in and pick stuff with her sorc husband I nearly puked.

10) HasteII - Was this really hurting people's feelings that bady? I don't think so. It should never have been changed.

That's about all I can think of currently.

I'm sorry about the incoherence of this post...it kind of jumps around...but the jist of my argument is this:

1. Why suffer for what a few people abuse?

2. Were things really that bad?

3. Why is it that the majority of the complainers are people that I've only seen posting in the past 3 years (No this is not a longevity based comment, it's just a point - I can't stand longevity arguments)?

Thanks.

And sorry for the bouncing ideas
