Speaking of IC/OOC fights

The other day I was having a 'fight' with this chick. It was all incharacter to start and I made some off comment about her exhusband.

She then goes to him in IMs and he shows her a picture of me and says some remark about my looks. She then comes back into the game and starts thinking to me how bad I look and whatnot. This doesn't really bother me, because I could care less what she thinks of my looks, but I felt that it should have never been brought OOC.

Finally, I get mad and ask to see a picture of her. So I see one and proceed to make remarks about her looks to her in thoughts.

She then comes into the room I'm in and it all starts happening out loud. I'm getting pretty annoyed with the whole subject just because, I play gemstone to roleplay and chat with friends, not listen to twits like this. A few people that were there were pretty disgusted because we were just stitting there flinging insults back and forth that were positively not GS related.

I was pretty upset at myself for letting the situation get out of hand, I mean, I still feel it should have been held as an IC situation rather than this whole RL looks issue.

Anyway, I'm still not sure how I should have handled it and I'm wondering what others woudl have done different. reg

Difficult subject when the other one starts in with the ooc BS. ;/ I tend to ignore such things myself and refuse to allow myself to be drawn into such situations.

That said sometimes it happens whether you want it to or not. I'd have ignored it and went on my way.

I don't do the whole picture thing, though folks are always asking if I have some for them to see. There are only two folks that I can think of off the top of my head who have pics.

One is Tracy a friend down in Texas and she got them because the late Kim/Galadriel was going to do a web site for Celtar and thought it would be a good idea to have some pics of ole Celtar's soul. So I sent her a bunch of them I had scanned, some of me, some of my kids and I and my ex-wife etc. And of course my boxers.<Grin>.

Sadly the web site never got off the ground for Kim passed away six months later. Its not that I am worried about pics' I'm not camera shy and think that I do well in the looks department, even with pushing 37 and the grey hair starting to show.<Grin>

I just think that it has no real place in the game. Sure if I'm at a Gather or dinner I don't mind pics being taken and posted on a website. But I really don't go for the whole picture swaping thing as a matter of course for roleplaying in the game.

The subject of the game is roleplaying, taking on the persona of a fantasy character.
Not roleplaying a 6 foot 1' 190 pound, blond haired, hazel eyed Scot/Welsh/German barbarian!<G>

(note - I stopped the quote right there - Roberta)

That's what you should have done differently. If you truly thought it didn't belong in the game, you shouldn't have contributed to it. I agree that it doesn't belong in the game. Your personal looks, hygiene, boyfriend, job, income, bedroom, attitude, sexual preference, etc - has no place in a fantasy world.

But the moment you contribute to it, you get what you ask for. By contributing, you invalidate your right to complain.

This isn't a "scolding" against you Cass, I've done the same thing. I would guess most people have at one point or another. Doesn't make it right, but most of us learn from our own bad experiences. Hopefully you'll get through it without a scratch and know better for the next time.

As SOON as someone brings real life issues into the game that concerns you personally, it becomes an OOC issue and should be reported.

Cassi is pretty strange looking. She's got warts and scars and all sorts of oddities.

The player of Cassi, on the other hand, is a doll!

Just some mushy motherly support for ya, sweets! But next time, hon.. walk away from that sort of thing. It'll save you from having to get on high blood pressure medication when you hit Roberta's age. reg

Siara<<

<<snicker>> she's gonna get you for that one!

Celtar reg

210 <silence> usually works preaty good.

Ice reg

Heyyyy I resemble that remark!

And Icedragon, you're missing the point I think. Cass feels (and rightfully so!) that in game references to PLAYERS' real selves is a bad thing. Dealing with it in character is only "feeding the troll" so to speak, because by doing so you are giving the issue validity in-character where it just plain doesn't belong.

Silence is an in-game in-character response to in-game in-character behavior. It should NEVER be used for OOC BS like what Cass was talking about.

I deal with this issue frequently, given that I attend lots of player gathers and my pictures inevitably end up plastered on sites. (And yes, that's pictures of me plastered at the parties, too.) Usually it's someone kind enough to let me know how fat I am. Really? Gosh. Never noticed.

Other than the last time, where I actually did hunt down the perp and kill him (the fine was minimal since I'm not a murderess, and well worth it), I usually just REPORT the OOC comments and trust the Powers that Be to deal with it. Keeps my blood pressure lot lower, and keeps my murder fines low.

Ylena
(and the two bald guys)

PS - Much as I hated the Freaks site, I have to admit, I loved the "Ylena and 2 bald guys" caption. That was funny. reg

Starting to? Huh, thats not what Tammy told me after she met you. I won't even go into what she said about your Rip VanWinkle beard and 1850's sideburns. :/

<coughs>

<snickers>

Oh, she also said you drank a lot of coffee.

<grins>

Leslie, just kidding about the other stuff.. reg

*gasps* only 37??? I am only 20 and have gray hair.

Maybe we should start a fight over it in the lands... OOC seems pretty pointless in a world we are supposed to escape into... But hey! Why not? I mean, everyone else does it right? Right?

Yeah yeah..;p She drank a lot of coffee too! Actually we both drank a lot of coffee and chained smoked as I recall. Yapping til near dawn. She's great to yap with.

Honestly though to get back on topic, Its best to ignore such crap as Cassi ran into. Its definatly uncalled, immature and not a part of the game.

Jim

p.s: I had Robert/Krakii walk right be me at Maggianos a Italian place we all met for dinner a couple months ago. Last time he saw me I had rather short hair semi military looking<G> This time I had grown it out and had a goatee. Was fun watching his face when I put my hand out to snag him. He had this baffled look on his face..<G> reg

But, Ylena... think of it this way...

Look at how many women would KILL for their own set of..er..two bald guys. Or what some of them go through just to have..uh.. two bald guys of their own. I dunno, I think it's just a case of..umm.. two bald guys envy.

I got two bald guys of my own, so at least I always have someone to talk to. reg
