[Kobold Village, Royal Mound]
A great mound of rubbish and filth rises up here west of the commons. Trash from every inn and tavern in Elanthia must have been dragged here to make it. High above the surrounding slovenly huts rests an even more slovenly sight: a decrepit fishing boat lies keel-up amid the filth. Gaping holes dot the rotting hull, only a few stopped with rickety shields and other scraps of wood serving as doorways and shutters. The fishermen are gone, but the smell of fish lingers on. You also see a kobold.
Obvious paths: east, west.

[Kobold Village, Commons]
The village commons is a grassy swath cut into the terraced strip of land east of the village proper. The green is set down into the rich earth just enough to keep a lethargic rolton from scrambling out on a hot day. An unwholesome mist pools in the sunken grassy area, and the moist earth gives way to a quagmire at one end. You also see a kobold and a shoddy mud and wood barricade.
Obvious paths: north, west, southwest, up.

[Kobold Village, Hedgerow]
A ramshackle collection of shanties and lean-to sheds huddles amid a yellowish river of mist in the small, dark vale below. The pitiful little huts crowd together in clumps, each seemingly hoping not to stand out enough to be noticed. If the size of the dwellings left any doubt, their bedraggled state leaves none: Only kobolds could have made such squalor in the midst of a pristine forest. You also see a bramble hedge.
Obvious paths: down.
>go hedge
[Lower Dragonsclaw, Brambles]
A gnarled hedgerow of brambles marches north and south, blocking any further progress down the westward slope. The smell of homemade cooking wafts over the stubby barrier ... or maybe something died over there. A sturdy adventurer might be able to squeeze under the hedge without too much loss of blood. On the other hand, a naked march back through the briars would probably be more fun.

[Lower Dragonsclaw, Briar Patch]
Underbrush and stunted oaks twist together in a death grip as the ground begins to slope downward. Some of the nearby briars have stems so thick that, if not for their hateful thorns, you could almost mistake them for saplings. The oaks, in turn, are bent double by masses of clinging vines. The whole effect is of a nasty little miniature Dragonsclaw.
Obvious paths: northeast, down.

[Lower Dragonsclaw, Briar Patch]
outWooden carving knives slice away the flesh of all intruders to this horrible maze, leaving rivulets of blood and sweat to trickle down the brow of any so foolhardy as to enter here on two legs. Twist or turn, but there is no escape from the dagger-spine pressed painfully into the soft flesh of the abdomen or the clump of stinging nettles thrust suddenly into the face. At times the only way forward is by scrabbling on hands and knees.
Obvious paths: southeast, southwest.

[Lower Dragonsclaw, Briar Patch]
Thick thorn bushes choke the few young oaks brave enough to root here. Long trailing vines drop pliant nooses from above and curl about your feet like vipers. There is no path to speak of and the only way through seems to be to find the shrub with the fewest thorns and put a shoulder into it.
Obvious paths: northwest, out.

The underbrush is quite thick here near the forest's edge, forcing you to slow your steps as you maneuver through the trees. You also see a briar patch.

You pause to allow your eyes to adjust to the further dimming of the light as you move deeper into the trees. The oaks surrounding you loom larger, and are interspersed with modwir trees, further blocking the rays of the sun. You also see a rolton, a kobold and a kobold.

Modwir trees predominate this section of forest, as though the oak, satisfied with its allotted space, has made room for the tall pines. You also see a velnalin.

[Lower Dragonsclaw, Forest]
There is a break in the trees here, several charred trunks bearing witness to a past forest fire or act of nature. A modwir lies across the ground, the scars of a lightning strike etched into its blackened trunk. Just near the remaining tree stump, you notice a dirt footpath leading south. You also see a kobold and a clearing to the east.

[Upper Dragonsclaw, Slopes]
The landscape is wild and challenging here, remote and forbidding. The ground dips and rises between thick, close undergrowth and rocky outcroppings. The level of the land rises to the south gradually at first, and then more sharply, disappearing up into the distance. To the north, the slope is gentler and less hazardous. You also see a dirt footpath.
Obvious paths: south.

The sharper slant of the terrain causes you to brace yourself against the rocky ground at an angle. Small pebbles and clumps of dirt are dislodged by your progress. The clatter of their descent echoes off the rising rock formations to the south as you utter a low, involuntary curse under your breath, chiding yourself for your clumsiness and lack of stealth.
Obvious paths: north, south.

[Upper Dragonsclaw, Slopes]
A towering boulder stands in the middle of the path, blocking it to the south, where it splits into two forks around the southeastern and southwestern sides of the rock. To the north, the slope descends slightly, leading you back towards the forests of the lowlands. You also see a hobgoblin, a hobgoblin and a rotting tree stump.

The surrounding area seems strangely quiet for such a cool and pleasant upland region as this. You wonder where the wildlife could have gone. Looking around, you notice something startling and disconcerting. Beneath a low-growing shrub beside the path are several carcasses of small animals and birds. They seem to be recently deceased.
Obvious paths: northwest, southwest.

The two paths around the towering boulder directly to the north allow you to skirt it, but the boulder itself looks fairly easy to scale. From its top, you might be able to get your bearings and stay out of harm's way for a bit. You also see a hobgoblin, a rotting tree stump and a long dark space under the boulder.

The grass is paler green here, as though the altitude and dearth of sunlight have stunted its growth. Coarse mosses and lichens hug the ground and form powdery, white crusts upon the rocks scattered about. The steepness of the slope makes you breathe heavily under the exertion of negotiating it, and you see your breath condense in vapor clouds in the crisp air. You also see a hobgoblin.

Tall, ghostly mountain peaks loom above you. Although you know they are quite far distant to the south, it feels as though you could almost reach out and touch them from here. Dark, contorted trails wind up the sides of the mountains, but they seem to be fit only for a few hardy mountain goats - or foolish climbers. The ground here is mostly bare, save for gravel, moss and a few stray weeds. The trail here winds to the east, with a high rocky ridge looming to the west. You also see a rotting tree stump.
