Scams and returning scammed goods

I was approached in game by someone today who informed me that an item that I own used to be his. He apparently lost it when his friend was holding the item and was hacked or scammed in some fashion.

I purchased this item from someone a little while ago for a fairly good price, and I can't remember the name of the person I purchased it from, but it didn't seem to fit any of the names I was given. This isn't a powerful item, it is really just an RP tool, but what do I do here? I've agreed that if it can be proven that the item does indeed belong to him, I'd return it without a problem, but how can that be proven? How do I know if these two aren't running a scam on me? Just looking for some advice.

If it's Tsin/Zurrain or BubbaUno then it's a lie.

That's about all the advice I can give you. reg

If it was important enough for the guy to approach you about it, then it was important enough for him to have registered it. Get a referral and have a GM verify who it's registered to.

I say keep it, or sell it back to the guy for at least what you bought for. No reason you should eat a loss because that guy got scammed.

Omnirus, can you explain more fully what went on with Tsin? Because he is one of the people who is "a good friend" of the person who approached me about the item.

I can not be sure if I have registered the item either, though it is possible that I did since I purchased it before the end of last month. Even so, I got a fairly good deal on the item (4.25 mil+pennant chase ring for an item that usually sells for about 6 or 7 mil) so my spider sense is also warning me that this may be the guy who sold the item to me(in another body), but now wants it back because he has a better offer.

And lastly, I would want compensation equivalent to what I paid if it was proven that the item was lost in some fashion.

My spidey sense is tingling!

Hold on to that item until it can be absolutely proven that this person is or isn't the 'true' owner. If they become angry, it's very likely they're pulling a scam on you (anyone else would probably feel immense relief that the item was at last found). reg

allow me to elaborate on tsin quickly...lying cheating scumbag talk to edge or omni for the grusome details but i lost out on a lot of coin because of him..70m+

not gonna say no more for i punch someone..

Yea, I'll also vouch that Tsin is a 'scumbag.' I'd make sure I tested 1x armor before I bought it from him.

Sonic reg

im cool with Tsin but I'd assist to test a rat pelt for authenticity before I bought it from him.

The other day I was in the rift and Tsin tells me all his stuff got stolen and he asked if he could borrow some of my high enchant stuff. Obviously I said no.

Does anyone have any info on thi guy?

Absolutely a no no Pirub. :P

He's asked everyone there I think.

I assume when you did the sale, you both did an exchange. If that is the case, then it's on record with the GMs. All exchanges, especially high-money item exchanges are tracked. At least, that is my understanding.

Regardless, if you did indeed purchase an item that was stolen -- The GMs would contact you, not this fellow. Thats from my first-hand experiences in matters similar to this.
