The 'Caution' Command

10:34 PMSince the GMs regularly scan these, either for information, friends, enemies, or whatever <can't say with the NDA and all>, i figure i'd post this..

One time i reported someone who just whispered f* you to me... almost immediately, i got a giant screen scroll with 'CAUTION, CAUTION, THIS IS NOT A WARNING' all over it, saying that vulgarity is against Gemstone policy, and i should be more careful in the future, for continued vulgarity may end up with a warning...

I reported about that, and quickly got a 'Ooops, sorry about that' from the person who issued it, and then i'm guessing the person who cursed at me got his just desserts...

So i offer this topic up, to ask if anyone else has ever been cautioned, or if any GM has ever used Caution <Cautions are like short term warnings, i think that was the explanation.. they disintegrate after a few months, and just show you did something that could've been bad, or worse> in the gaming environment... Please, share your thoughts...

11:29 PMYep, they have those "form" caution messages for OOC speak also. I'm not sure how they work, but my guess is they pick up on certain words. I doubt they go on your record or anything, just a reminder.

08:36 AMThis is a bit late in answering since I just started reading many of these, but I once received a caution when I was silenced by a creature. Then I tried mouthing words to my hunting partner so that he understood I was silenced (something to the effect of "<character> tries to mouth out some words but nothing can be heard" type of thing). I was told I can't mouth out words since I can't speak, that I was abusing the act command. Well.. never did that again, although had quite a silenced/mouthing-out-words conversation going with the GM.

09:29 AMYeah, Same thing happened to me. I was silenced and I acted out something, and got a caution for it. It was an act similar to yours (tries to speak but you just see his lips moving.)

Nothing about trying to move your mouth. If you didn't do:

You're silenced, so no one can hear you. You're creating words that you can't utter (at least that's what was said to me).

I too think it's bogus to get cautioned for just mouthing out words, but not everyone can read lips so I wouldn't go as far as stating the exact words because it's a bit wrong. reg

That's what it's there for, i think it should be used much much more, or in time, you should be able to make an appointment with a GM or something, and have a warning turned into a caution, which will then self-decay after about 6 months or so reg

(Gnomad tries to speak but only manages to mouth out a few, indiscerable words.) is good.

What GM gave you a caution for that?

I swear if the GM's got a stick up their backsides about the ACT mechanic then just remove it entirely.

Common sense is not universal.
