Wake the hell up already

The rift is becoming just like Teras. Seems like 99% of the people are afk for 99% of the time they're up there.

This is really a pity because as far as a hunting area goes, it's great. It just really sucks when you hunt, return to the cavern and try talking to people before you realize you're talking to a friggin brick wall that's been afk for the last 3 hours and stays afk for another 6.

Like right now...there was a good 7 or 8 people in the cavern before I went to plane 5. I fogged down to 3 and due to not seeing a type ahead message when I went to go defensive again, a n'ecare got a lucky shot on me.

I've been lying dead here on 3 for a good 30 minutes, done some symbols of need, etc. Sent a few thoughts out on the Voln net earlier when someone else up here died asking if anyone knew where they were. Of course I got no response, though it could very well be that there were no other volners in the rift at the time.

I'm sure I'll be lying here for a lot longer while all the afk zombies sitting up in the cavern go about their daily afk duties with their characters sitting there for hours on end collecting dust.

This is what I hated so much about Teras....barely anyone is awake. They just sit there afk for hours and hours. Hunt/afk/hunt/afk/hunt/afk while the player goes to bed/etc.

This is the main reason why I barely ever come up to the rift anymore because there's rarely anyone awake to interact with. You either see people sleeping on the ground, or see their disks floating around while they sit afk in hiding for hours.

Yeah I use symbol of dreams a lot up in the rift, but I'm very rarely afk when I do it. If I see a death cry or something, I wake up and go get them if I'm able to, or if on the rare occasion I see a person with a functioning brain, I'll wake up and talk to em or whatever.

And no I'm not just writing this because I've been lying here dead for the past 30+ minutes. I'm just tired of the rift being a haven for zombies and afk people, especially since it's such a small and secluded area as it is.

Am I the only person that gets pissed off by this? reg

Rusval...you need to learn some manners or get taught a lesson or something. I don't quite know what it is yet.

Methais _did_ die.

And you I guarantee have never been to the rift.

There's namely one person that sits southwest of the cavern with around 5-6 accounts and is completely blatant with his MA'ing...as well as his AFK'ing.

So...please don't make a statement about Methais in that matter. Even if Methais wasn't a close friend...I would still be sticking up for him...mainly because you don't know anything about the rift.

heh did go into rift but wasnt on one of my made characters, was playing a friends, didnt walk around whole area just plane 1

and omnirus if you didnt notice he draws a parrallel to teras, so id assume anyone familiar with either town would be an expert.snicker

and as for me learning manners, the whole message would never have been brought up if he wasnt dead for 30 minutes, it may have been irratating but he needed some real concrete reason to bring it before us and he did, i dont know what you got crammed up yer ass thats making you so bitchy..

and me and methais always at ends wouldnt have it any other way, not fun to be friends with everyone in gemstone specially suck up to losers who are twice yer age and can just play gemstone more then you

I don't have anything crammed up my ass actually Rusval.

Your statements are just rediculous sometimes.

I remember closing you out of a political discussion so fast that I was overposting you on it.

I just like arguments...and your's never make any sense whatsoever.

I don't like "kids" that act like "kids" all the time...and disrespect people's opinions/ideas/suggestions, etc.

Methais is a very good friend of mine...and I just totally agree with him on it.

And no...I guarantee I play way less Gemstone than you do. reg

Exactly why Drevn no longer visits the Rift Methais. I used to do lots and lots of rescues up there but anymore 90% of the time someone dies he has a zombie there to get him, of course without saying anything to let others know either. It's just to bad the people who pay the price are us. reg
that has nothing to do with this, i originally opened that post to see how active everyone was politically and i was unable to post for a while cause my computer was being serviced so kharhazz told me hed put in some things, i dont know what yer talking about acting like a kid, i just think people take this game to seriously. Whenever i disragree with someone i make it blatently obviously that im either being sarcastic or joking around with them, and speaking about acting childishly, you take everything so personaly its ridiculus. You cant compete with someone whos gonna post every 3 minutes for 6 hours in the political section i just have better things to do in my life. Not to mention that this isnt even an official message board. And from what i've observed of you, your just a cocky ass who parades around his rifter.Snicker, congratulations for wasting so much of your life on this game reg
And i dont even know why you jumped on my comment on this topic, the only damn reason he posted this was cause he died which pushed him over.Snicker reg
I'm out on the discussion.

I parade as a rifter. reg

damn strait reg
Rusval, for someone who hates "cocky asses", you sure seem to be one yourself.

Just because someone doesn't share the same viewpoint as you do, doesn't mean you have to berate them in an attempt to make yourself look better.

And as far as "acting like a kid" goes, I think you'd get a little more respect if your posts were legible and made some actual sense. It's a wonder what capital letters and a little bit of punctuation can do for you.

Actually not really. I've been meaning to post it for a while but I've just been too lazy. Being dead inside the rift doesn't really have anything to do with trying to talk to a brick wall out in the cavern after a hunt. reg

Don't forget...

The newest thing is anyone over the age of 95 is either:

a) parade rifter
b) power hunter
c) doesn't know how to RP
d) hasn't been around a long time
e) MA's
f) ghosts/afk's all the time
etc. etc.

At least that's how it works in the Rusval world. reg

And you became unlazy when it became serious and you were dead for 30 minutes, so however you put it the two are related... reg

<<And you became unlazy when it became serious and you were dead for 30 minutes, so however you put it the two are related...>>

If that was the case, I wouldn't even have mentioned the fact that I was dead. The point I was making had nothing to do with me being dead at that time.

Anyway let's get back to the topic of the rift becoming the zombie infested afk place it is instead of wasting time arguing about why Rusval always thinks he's right about everything.

You left out the part that when you cast at someone no matter the situation you hear something like...

Snert says, "Why don't you quit abusing your powers just to show off in front of your friends and go back to the rift where you belong before I report you!"

You all are right on the money on both counts.

Tired of the "whoever can report the fastest wins" attitudes

Roleplay until there is a potential downside, then its REPORT! REPORT! REPORT!.

You couldn't be more correct...

IMHO, the abuse of report allows younger characters to push the limits of older characters, just because they know the GMs will see it as the "big badass sorcerer" picking on the "little newbie jackass." I hate to use profanity and the term "newbie", because I loathe it... but let's face it, that's what most of them are.

Is there a difference between newbie, and someone who has been around the game awhile and is playing younger character just for a change up in RP? Just last night my younger character was first dragged out of an alterer room along with her mate, then when we walked back in we were thumped. Simply because we stood up for warriors. We were called farmers a confusing concept for my character for she has never done any farming, from the time she could walk she was trained as a warrior. She is fine with trading insults. It was some fun RP and a good way to showcase her warrior and very proud half-elf heritage. They used OOC knowledge the fact that my character looks young, for my character never let on her training level. They dragged us out of the room that was entirely uncalled for (note to self when getting in a debate with people who don't RP close your group), then they thumped us simply because they could, we weren't being snerty, or ooc. they were. We assisted, not because we were "picked on" by older characters, but because of the abuse of the thump. Which has a time and place and kudos to those who can figure out when that is. My character couldn't help but laugh at the idea of a halfling wearing so much it looked as though the stuff would topple her over was threatening her life and calling her a coward because she refused to get into a physical fight with her.

I question anyone who can't argue or debate without it becoming physical.

D reg

Closing groups has to be the most ooc option. It should be a flag sent directly to a GM when someone closes a group to see why.

It should be extremely rare having to use it. And using it alone should be for ooc reasons and therefore reportable.

Want to clean out gemstone of troublemakers? Just get the people who abuse this feature. Just like when people would drag off corpses to loot their dead bodies the answer was bandaid and really didn't fix the true problem.

There's a HUGE difference, and that's what I'm saying. A "newbie", by the term, is generally used to describe someone new to the game, not having the common, basic knowledge that more experienced player. A newbie is NOT a more experienced player behind a new character. ::shrugs::

Just outta curiousity... Zadya, Klaive, all the rest of ya. Do you remember Pyrates? ::grins:: I'd be interested to hear what you have to say, however off-topic it might be.

Methais I am with you 100% on the AFK zombies in the cavern. it's the same one's over and over. You go to hunt, die and not a one of them even comes looking for you. And one of the worst one's IM's me to come get him even if I'm not in the rift. For instance..the other day I died on 3, someone dragged me down the stairs to 2 and died trying to get me in, then two more die on different planes. Well when I left to hunt the four players and one zombie was in the cavern, the zombie in question happened to be a cleric that was AFK. We all laid there for a very long time before the zombie cleric woke up. No it is not their responsibility to get us, just common courtesy that is usually done for each other to pay attention to the death cries and get everyone in. What I have the biggest problem with is someone sitting their second character there handing them coins etc,. blatantly not caring who knows. I mean we all know who's who, but must you flaunt it openly? Another thing is to start a conversation with character #1, and character 1 and 2 alternate talking back to you. I can't say I have never been AFK resting in the rift, but never more then a small break. Do us all a favor, either destroy your disk and hide or just plain log-off. I'm glad you brought this up Methais, I've been meaning to also. And Rusval, who cares why he brought it up? it's a concern of everyone up there and he wanted opinions on people it affects, not you who has just "used" someone else to peak in and can't possibly be affected by the constant AFK.

I may be flamed for this but my opinion on the matter, is your almost trying to force roleplay. Personally i am afk when i rest given that i play during work a lot but even so what your thinking of is like warning people for being afk which in my opinion is kinda absurd. A lot of people play for different reasons and if the persons reason is to multiaccount and get 3 guys old at once to enjoy the fruits of life later on and create a name for his character then so be it. It seems to me those afk are afk because they were put in similar situations and got sick of it, so they have there rift sorc make a cleric get to 90 fast and never have a dieing problem again. I find it completely understandable when i see people afk in nodes and what not, just put yourself in their shoes, their could be underlieing circumstances...
Just my two cents.

Oh sorry, I thought Gemstone was a roleplaying game. Stupid me.

<<Personally i am afk when i rest given that i play during work a lot but even so what your thinking of is like warning people for being afk which in my opinion is kinda absurd.>>

No, it's just telling them to wake the hell up and quit being such a blatant idiot zombie, not warning people for being afk.

There are some times when I have to go afk unexpectedly, but the majority of the time it's only for a few minutes. If I'm using symbol of dreams or whatever, I still have one eye open, so to speak. People that go afk occasionally for a short time don't really bother me because sometimes it's unavoidable. I'm mostly talking about the same people that are almost always afk everytime you see them.

<<A lot of people play for different reasons and if the persons reason is to multiaccount and get 3 guys old at once to enjoy the fruits of life later on and create a name for his character then so be it. The game was a lot better before it got infested with people like that. Are you saying it's ok for these people to assist in ruining the game even more than it already is?

<<I find it completely understandable when i see people afk in nodes and what not, just put yourself in their shoes, their could be underlieing circumstances...>>

Yes there could be and many time there are, but the majority of the time, it goes something like fry/afk reading the boards/fry/go fry other 10 accounts/fry/go to school/fry/afk/fry/afk/fry/go to sleep for 9 hours/fry/afk, rinse, wash, repeat.

You get the point.

It goes like this.... if you aren't a little newbie prick, you're a little newbie prick with an old character, always ready to log in your wizard or cleric or sorceror to bind someone just because you think you can... And that's why simu is so harsh with the powertripping 'elders' people buy all the time...

Sound familiar at all? The bit with the cleric maybe?

Oh... and by the way...
<<I question anyone who can't argue or debate without it becoming physical.>>

Question yerself then, dearie... It's a bit different to even ponder it coming physical when you're playing a warrior under 5 trains, and not your 90 level cleric/wizard team, eh?

The answer to this problem is to have random invasions in the main resting spot in the Rift. "Waking up" to find your whole family dead would probably keep some folks on their toes.

And, everyone would enjoy it (you would think). A GM doesn't have to send in 20 critters to slaughter everyone in the room. He could send in 2 or 3 to start, give folks a minute to respond, and then start sending in more critters.

Invasions at "sleeping" nodes are a good thing. Even if it accomplishes NOTHING else, it will still add some excitement to the hunt/rest routine.

Murp

Methais I support you 100%. And Murp you had a mighty good point also, although invasions at nodes is instant death for voln dreamers I think.

I HATED hunting the rift because of lack of socialization. I was so happy when the maaghara labyrinth opened providing me with an option to the rift. However Methais you're fighting a losing battle. Isolated hunting area with nodes/rest areas = AFK zombies all the time. Sounds like a great place for Rusval to go. Meth come join us in Ta'Illistim, especially with Ta'Faendryl opening.

Ha! That reminds me back when I hunted in Shadow Valley before the ledge was sancted. Every now and then some mares and steeds would show up, fear half the people, kill most of those, then eventually get killed by others. You rarely saw someone afk back then. Now you're lucky if you find one person that's NOT afk. It's just like the Cavern of Ages now. I'd love to see something like this in the rift as well. Nothing huge so that everyone does, but something that's capable of killing the sleepers at least. Maybe some frothing troll kings or something <grin>.

Let's go bother Warden about this.

I'm gonna head up there eventually. I can't hunt the rift forever after all. I just hate that long trip to EN and back. I do a lot of selling in the Landing, so I go through withdrawals if I'm away for too long :P
