"I suck at it" = soap

>You concentrate intently, focusing all your energies.
With a flick of your wrist, your shafted golvern lance whirls lazily in an arc overhead. Changing directions, you bring the shafted golvern lance downward and across the body ending with an abrupt stop as you nearly take off your toe! You feel a bit flustered by the spectacle.
Roundtime: 10 sec.
R>
You grin.
R>'I suck at it
Icewhite laughs!
R>
You say, "I suck at it"
R>'as you see
You say, "as you see"

An old huntress on her way to provide for her family overhears what is said. She gasps with disgust while quickly grabbing a bar of lye soap from her backpack.

The huntress says, "Maliku, I can't believe you weren't brought up with better manners than that. Maybe this will teach you a lesson!"

She then promptly washes your mouth out with the soap and continues on her way.

The gods have instructed their assistant, the old woman, to wash your mouth out with soap. What you are saying in no way adds to the experience of the game but often offends other players. You are NOT getting an official warning at this time but rather a friendly reminder to please watch what and how you say things.

Only you will know of having your mouth washed out therefore there is no need to tell anyone else unless you wish to. Please do try to watch what you say.

>report Is "I suck at it" really vulgar enough to elicit a "soaping" for?
REPORT should only be used to notify the GemStone III staff of emergency situations or gamewide technical errors. Please use ASSIST for general support.

Message sent to all online game staff. While no staff members are currently on duty, there are likely to be several lurking behind the scenes to investigate your report. If you feel the need to speak with the staff, please type ASSIST for a list of options.

***** The GemStone III staff thanks you for reporting this problem. However, they feel it is more appropriate for you to use ASSIST for this issue. They wish to help all players fairly, in first-come, first-served order.

Ok... how about trying some variations? I would suck the very life out of the marrow of his bones.

The void sucked all the air out of the room.

You sucked that drink up like it was a tornado.

Etc.

If you think poor mechanics are at fault then show them, otherwise someone in normal fashion was eavesdropping and has no life.

God i love that thing... it's like a virtual middle finger pointed at you when you have a complaint, try and assist directly after that, i bet you'll be pleasantly surprised... Or better yet, try and get their attention again, and they'll tell you that you are abusing report, and they'll warn you for it, nice isn't it?

-Urgoyle... who got that message yesterday for reporting someone cursing at him... went ahead and assisted anyway... here's the queue right after i assist...

Assists pending: 1
Premium assists pending: 0
Referrals pending: 0

I was visited about... oh... 2 hours later reg

And on another note, the message says 'The gods have instructed'....

So what about that topic talking about GMs in game and calling them gods?... don't they call themselves gods?...

Or was someone powertrippin' when they wrote that message?...

Or do the messengers of the gods come in the form of old female rangers? reg

The only reason that I respond to a good majority of the posts here is that I have a fear of the true newcomer to this game finding these boards and reading them.

::shudders::

So, here goes with another post where the replies from 'the gang' will have that..oh..hmm.. 'you brown-noser' feel..

I have yet to make a REPORT and not receive an instant SEND[sombody] in answer, and that includes the times when there are no visible GMs.

But, then again.. I do make legitimate REPORTS and I rarely do REPORT. reg

I would hope some new player comes here and really learns what they are getting into. I would of given a lot to know what I know now before I started playing. Well I wouldn't of started at all and saved myself the headache.

I agree. That message is poorly written and gives you the feeling that you are just one of the masses when there truly isn't a massive need or strain on the system.

Hosts basically are just note takers and can not say one thing or another without asking a GM, so effectively they are a screener for a referral.

And the biggest Catch 22... Everytime you report/assist it DOES add up, even if it is legitimate. You are causing work. You take a hit for that in the long run.

Best thing to do is just ignore everything if you can. Log off if you have to. Just isn't worth your valuable time given the current structure of the game and the quality of the staff.

By the time a GM drops in to look what is going on the "picture" can change greatly and the amount of time you have to document and complain about someone is really time truly wasted.

The policy, the staff, and the relative player population support snerty immature idiots. Either become the same bouncy dingy no brained character or just ignore it I say.

Hiway reg

Very good post, Hiway. I'll be sure to remember that.

Well I agree with you in that GH's are not able to "do" much. I tend to view them as like a security camera with complaint forms handy. But that at least is something. If there were not any of them it would take even longer for questions to be answered.

Trust me I have met some less than helpful Hosts, but for the most part have found them to be at least friendly and receptive if not incredibly enabled to help you in the short run.

Yes they do of course track every assist you make but as long as they are not seen to be frivolous as far as I know they do not in any way "count" against you.

I would say to someone new to use their judgement...do you run to your supervisor or the teacher for every single teeny tiny infraction of another or do you at least try to see if they are reasonable and try to work it out with them and only at that point make a complaint.

Now..."working it out" does not mean stalking them.....constant verbal abuse or intimidating them simply because you can. It means speaking...or at least trying to.
After that fails then no one will blame you for doing an assist.

And _yes_ there are those who have been told to not report again about a conflict they may be having with another person in particular. Those are the rare cases and IF you are in such a position then most likely you had to have been pretty stubborn and not adjusted your style of play when so prompted by GM's or Hosts.

So, newcomers don't enter with huge concerns, enjoy and your stay in Elanthia will be what you make of it.

When in doubt DO use report and assist, just explain your reasons and don't explode if the response is not in your favor. Chalk it up to experience and know for next time. reg

Ahh, but skirmisher, remember, policy is so morphic, it can change to any GMs will, depending on who wants to take your case, and how good a mood they are in...

I have had favorable reports/assists... i've had things done in my favor, when someone did something horrible to me, and i reported, and they kept it up, and almost instantly vanished, that made me smile...

I've also had unfavorable reports/assists... Remember, it all depends on the mood of whomever's taking it... One person can tell you to report/assist if something happens... another person can tell you their PC reports... and if nothing is done, takes it into their own hands... Another person can clarify consent issues for you...

But the matter is, policy can be interpreted in any fashion, it just depends who you get on your case... It's kind of like being sent to hell, and appointed a caseworker, who can go 'well, i see some good in this soul, let's try to save him' or 'bah, this guy's pure evil anyway, F him' and not care...

I think someone pointed out once, that GMs probably do have the toughest job in the world, dealing with so many people for little or no compensation, while watching the business take off... Trust me, i know how it is... go play any MUD out there <say, mud.arctic.org, port 2700> for example... Note the heirarchy, and that everyone is volunteer... staff corruption is dealt with harshly, and quickly, and usually people hear about it.

Simu needs uncorruptable people, which are tough to find, but do exist... Sort of like their own 'men in black'... so high up the chain, nobody knows about them, who sit in hiding permanently invisible to everyone else, and just watch, and observe, and investigate corruption reports, and act swiftly.. But that would co$t money, and it would co$t workers when the corrupt GMs <who still do their normal coding jobs and such responsibly> are tossed out on their asses..

So i guess basicly... heh, no matter how hard they try, everything is fubar anyway... I guess it's good things run as smoothly as they do... well, as smoothly as they can under the circumstances.. GMing needs to be a real nice paid position..

When GMs stop logging on, with the 'Great, just got home from work, my lovely full time job, and now i'm doing this volunteer crap for a bunch of ingrates who don't give a damn about anything i'm doing anyway' mindset, the world will be a happier place. reg

I agree. Some GM's will say you need to report those "little" things and another will berate you for it. The point is that even staff can't get their own "story" straight. That story is their own policies.

And by no means was I making less of a particular host. I too agree those people have a ton of patience for number one working under the weirdo policies they fall under.

If I were king so to speak, hosts would have a lot more ability to make judgement calls and fix things.

It is a game, not real life law. As it stands staff make it seem a criminal act if you cast a spell on someone sometimes even when you get consent....
