Players that make you want to leave

I thought it would be interesting to talk about the view Simutronics takes when it comes to POLICY and the reasoning behind the POLICY.

The theory behind every POLICY is to keep making money.

How: By maintaining enjoyment of the game for everyone as well as maintaining the intergrity of the company and the company equipment (including staff).

Breakitdown! So you have two types of POLICY 'breakers':

1. The d00ds. The "Did you see that game on TV last night?". The scripters, the PvP without consenters, the multi-accounting in order to become God'ers', the (*&#)% r's, the cheaters, the do anything it takes to *win* Gemstoner's.

And the other:

2. The GM's suck'ers, The Simutronics is an evil company'ers, The policy is not strict enough'ers, the post until it hurts'ers, the scream at the top of your lungs until you get heard'ers, the broke a GM's heart'ers, the Do you like the sports car I bought David Whatley'ers, the How many GMs did you do to get that outfit'ers.

Now, the need to get rid of the #2s (IMHO) is much less necessary than getting rid of the #1s. The #2s are usually old time players, have seen it all, usually know most of the staff by name, they aren't leaving unless you pull the plug. These are your profits.

Now, for discussion, to me:

#1's are much more annoying, destroy the integrity of the game and have now taken over Gemstone with the rambling on about AS and DS and ))))))'s. While Simutronics has been so worried about getting the evil #2'ers out of their hair, they have turned this game into a playpen.

I'm constantly blown away by the need to harass these #2's that pay and OBVIOUSLY care about what happens inside the game (sometimes a little too much, but hey, they give a crap), yet the d00ds multiply in droves because they simply do not have time to post on the boards, let alone interact with staff regarding concerns about profession changes, they are too busy scripting their way to 5000.

I loves the way you think Rhain!

Definitely need to get rid of #1 group. They are the problem, not the old-timers who give a hoot about the game and stay no matter how crappy things turn out.

But ya know, all Simu care about are the new people. So that should say it all about where their priorities are. Piss off the devoted people and bring in the riff-raff.

Hope they have new thread in their weedwackers cause its going to get messy REAL soon..and fast. reg

Interesting post, Rhain. reg
On the other hand, there are those in the d00d category who can actually become a contributing part of the IC/RP'ed society if given the right push in the right direction.

I've seen it myself in fact. They need a more structured environment, a *reason* to get out of their zone and into the other zone of existing. Sometimes it is as drastic as having them play a different game run by a different company. Sometimes it's as subtle as finding them when they're alone in the game and "being" your character while they're there.

An example: I saw one guy who I knew to be a "d00d" most of the time, hunting the glatoph when I was playing Courtine. In my post in the Roleplaying folder you'll see that it's my favorite place to RP when she's alone, and that I do RP even when my character is alone.

So here comes silly goofy Courtine, saying "Hullo, wanna smash some frost giants wit me?" to the d00d, and we ended up having a wonderful time for almost an hour RPing our brains out, having a blast playing with the frost giants and ice trolls and those witches there.

Whether or not he ever actually RPed with other people I don't know, but I choose to have faith that he took some of that with him and learned a little of how much fun you can have when you're not being a d00d.

Here's where the problem is.... #1 outnumbers #2, by 50 to 1, or some obscene number like that...

Simu's profits come from the bigger playerbase... so if the ammount of 'elders' we have in the lands <elder in play-time, not level> could somehow outnumber these newcomers <it never will> we could petition to have the lockout cannons aimed at them....

If it were my sandbox, people who go around trying to get others to fight them, slaps, punches, whatever, stupid annoying verbs like that, just to try and get a reaction out of them, just so they can report and get them taken away, would be summarily reduced to a crunchy crisp, in a big firepit, dug right in the effin' middle of TSC...

-Urgoyle... who remembers when the players would regale RL <or IM, or whatever> friends with tales of their latest adventure, or their latest conquest, and not 'Hehe, i got this guy in trouble, because he thought he could stop me from being a prick, hehe' reg
