A Blatant Bit Of Spam

Hi, everyone!

I've been reading this board for a little while and have noticed that when people register to comment on something, they get no respect. To avoid that, I'm registering now so that if something comes up that I have an opinion about I won't be viewed with suspicion.

One good thing about the official boards is that they don't log your number of posts, so each message is judged on merit instead of how prolific the poster is. Since it's not the same way here, a bit of spam seems to be required.

More spam to follow at irregular intervals till I get to ten posts. Ten seems to be about the minimum needed to prove you're not a GM/spy/communist.

This should probably be moved to the BBS concerns folder, since it isn't about Gemstone.

But anyway, when I first registered and wrote my first post, I didn't have anyone telling me I was a GM/spy/communist, and I seemed to have the same respect then as I do now.

I think it might be good to comment both on substantive GS3 issues, as well as heatedly debated topics so that you are not just jumping into a fire. I kind of wish they'd remove the number of posts thing too, but it ain't gonna happen. Don't spam though, then you'll really get no respect.

This is the kicker right here.

Many of the times that someone registers to make a post it's to comment on a heated thread to back up someone. Many of those times it's on behalf of the person who is in the minority.

Coincidence? Perhaps. But if those same people would contribute to other topics as well, nothing would be assumed. Yes, bad thing to assume, but when the only time you post is to defend your "friend", then people will question your reasons to be here.

And this definitely needs to be moved to the BBS Concerns folder. reg

Usually, the ones I don't respect are the ones who come running here to make one thread about whatever bad thing they've done or perceive to have been done to them. Thereafter, they never post again.

It's usually pretty obvious that is what they are doing, because they don't post anywhere else on the boards. This area is for us to discuss our Concerns about Gemstone III. Not to win people over to your cause celebre. Expect to get both positive and opposing views. It always amuses me where people come here and expect us to take up their side of whatever ruckus they've been causing then get mad when people don't.

I came to this particular board to register and post and read because it seemed the one least linked to simutronics' control. My reasoning was that I might get more honest responses without all the self-serving spam. I never thought that I would be judged on my lack of posts to date.

Orobini reg

I'm glad you feel that way Orobini, because I think it's the truth.

Sometimes tho, there seems to be those people who pop up who's sole purpose is to say, "Yeah! You are so right!" In response to someone's post, and they are never heard from again...I think those are the people that get tagged as the one posters who are probably friends of the original postmaker who've been asked to come here just for that purpose. They tend to stand out, tho.

<<Nice try GM.>>

I'm sorry but I had to just say

LOL!

to this.

Okay, back to cleaning up my keyboard.

Well I've got no idea how to quote people on UBB boards, but the reason this board interests me is it's the only one that isn't mirrored on the official boards. It offers something different.

And I'm not a GM, Murp. Rangers...

P.S Up to two posts, now! reg

SGM, no doubt. reg

No no, it's the guy who sold David Whatley his car, no doubt about it. Stoat is the TRUE god!

I'm with ya Stoat, however since the number of posts is a built in function of the BBS system, there isn't a way to remove it.

Really though I understand your problem. I personally am of the opinion that it doesn't matter who says it, it's what they say, but this is an opinion not everyone will share. On the official boards the same problem occurs as well, some guy makes a really good post, but because he isn't some mainstream guy people don't listen to his post or accept it as much as they would some other guy.

I guess even if we did remove the number of posts made you would still get those who judge you.

Regardless, thanks for joining the Player's Corner and I hope to see you post more often.

I have more posts that you. reg

I got welcomed to the boards my first post. Of course my first post was a question about wizards and not in the defense of someone telling a one sided story and in a losing battle. I think it has to do with timing more than anything, if you magicaly appear and defend someone out of the blue, that sends up the flag of suspision. Welcome to the boards and try not to spam or your respect will probably dwindle.

"Baked beans are off"
"Can I have spam instead then?"

SGM's don't ever post more than once, so this theory is blown...
