I would say cone is more dangerous. Just ask Edgeleaf. He'll never learn that cone reflects, or he just revels in killing as many folks as he can at once without getting reported. Luckily his lightning bolts reflected directly back into his face, and justice was served.
Murp reg
But I will always cone. Mages got the spell to use. We are going to use it. Just like Sorcs are going to implode the trasure and items away in a invasion. Warriors are going to mstrike like mad in a invasion.
I didn't start coning last night until the people with the search group on wouldn't search their kills. I will be damned if I am going to sit there and cast at dead bodies.
Nice of you to point out just me as the only person coning. Wizards older then me was coning to. But hey. Get your shots in while you can.
I just think they should remove the search flag during invasions like they do with getting arrested.
Maybe make mstrike have a chance to hit other players not in your group in the room. They made meteor so powerful we dare not use it in a invasion. That might be make them think twice about mstriking in a invasion. Just like open voids people dare not use in a invasion. That would solve the mstriking problem. Just make it not player friendly anymore.

I pointed you out because I knew you would respond, and because you are the ONLY wizard that coned in a room that I was in. I'm sure other wizards did it, but you are the only one that I saw, and had to dodge lightning bolts from.
MAYBE, a dead oracle did reflect the cone, but I'll have to check my logs to believe that. I highly doubt that you can cast spells at a dead oracle though. That would have to be a bug if it is true. I think it's more likely an oracle that you didn't see was still alive.
You can feel free to cone away, I just don't see what pleasure you could possibly get out of coning something 100 trains younger than you. No one will thank you for it, but hey, you got the spell so you can use it however you want, right? Someone your age bolting something 100 trains younger is nearly guarunteed to kill every critter in the room. You should let the younger folk get their swings in, not try to impress folk by killing 10 KOBOLDS at once. That's my opinion, which I'm sure you won't share.

Usually the invading critters pick off the mstrikers rather quickly since they are stuck in RT and in offensive. - Truth
See, this might matter to a ranger like you and I, Truth but for a warrior or rogue with redux, being stuck in offensive isn't enough of a drawback, especially with a whole load of weak critters.
I submit that there should be critters that either have tough skin that causes the mstrike to bounce back at the swinger, or that there should be some kind reflectance at a whole room of people. The second would be more useful since again, the redux element might not disuade the MStriker.
Mass Calm, leadership killing (E.G. killing only the critters that pose a threat to others), tackle/sweep, the list goes on of more responsibile ways to conduct oneself in an invasion. But as many have said, it works, there are no drawbacks, so there is no way to tell people not to on the basis of responsibility.

Maybe there should be a penalty to DS if there's more citters in a room than you can hit with an mstrike, and the penalty should get worse with more and more critters...
if you can swing at 3 and there's 4 there, you lose 20 DS... If you can swing at 3 and there's 5 there, you lose 40DS... if you can swing at 3 and there's 10 there, you lose 140 DS...
But, if you only take on one critter, either with a melee swing or a focused mstrike, you lose no DS....
reg
As for drawbacks, I think that what S.L.O.B. (heh
) said is a good idea. Or maybe institute a DS penalty for the duration of Mstrike, amounting to how many critters you're swinging at.
For example, 10 DS loss for every critter you swing at in mstrike. 5 critters swung at, -50 DS for the RT.
Of course, I don't have much experience on hunting with mstrike, and I'd hate to see a mainly warrior hunting skill get downgraded due to a few idiots in an invasion.

Heh, I liked this part so much I decided to quote it. Sorry, nobody's impressed with your 4783534 AS but what IS annoying is when people don't pay attention to what they do and end up killing everyone else.

If you read the whole post. You would have noticed I got fed up with casting at dead monsters from mstrikers and finally started coning. You would have realized this if you read the post all the way through.
We all know people are going to go out of their way to try and attack me. These feeble attempts are really boring and a waste of space. Lets try and make these little shots you make half way decent instead of pathetic.
I get lots of pleasure from coning because invasions give me some worth while loot. Easy money for me. But maybe making 500k during the invasion is a waste of your time. Not mine. Also the blank mage rechargeable gem I found was a plus.
If you know people like me or older are going to be casting cone and could kill you. Why the hell you go out there in the first place? Can't handle the invasion why even bother? Oh wow. I can put forth you logic. Plus, there was a Kobold Archmage I could learn from if I could have caught him.
Oh wait! I am NOT allowed to have fun in a invasion! I got to remember that next time. Thanks for letting me know my money is not as good as anyones elses.
I was not 100 trains older then the monsters. But lets try and make a false point. I didn't have 513 up. I didn't have bravery up. I didn't have heroism up. I didn't even have a single sign up. WOW. Summir was with me and she didn't even put up Benidiction! If you remember I didn't kill everything with a cone either. Bolt was what?!?!? like low 400s?
Since you got a log of this. Post it then put a claim of me doing so wrong.

Edge, that's a real poor excuse. It's not -their- fault that a mass-destruction spell -you- cast killed them. You may as well be meteor swarming during an invasion, if that's your logic. reg
Well the fact is, they can handle the invasion; it's the thoughtless wizards that cast cone and have it reflect and bust them in the rump with which they have trouble.

The thoughtless wizards huh?
Well the problem here is actually the certain people that attempt to attack anything above their level and get feared and die.
I especially like the fact that all of our invasions are usually won with a sorcerer FI'ing the main monster. Now that's just a load of crap. It just completely overpowers any of the other people attempting to attack during an invasion.
As for Mstriking...it doesn't bother me at all...since the most effective MStriker is Megaladon (His AS is high enough to slaughter everything and everything in the room).
reg
Missed the whole point of the post.
If I was out to ruin the invasion. I would have rapidifired coned, ewaved or tremors. I caused less havoc then most of the people in the invasion.
Now back on topic.
Mstrike it overpowered. Something needs done with it. What should we do?
DS penalty when used? I don't think that will help with how powerful redux is.
Make it where it's not player friendly would make them think twice about mstriking in a invasion. This I like.
Make mstriking monsters would be cool. Let them focus mstrikes at warrior and rogues with redux.
edge
reg
And let's not put the blame entirely on edge. Many casters use whatever best tactic they have at their disposal to make it easier to kill everything. They are no different than squares. The only thing I don't like is the logic used behind it, "Well if the mstrikers are going to do it, I am going to do it too." or vise versa. But that's just my opinion, and a messy one since I'm writing this at 4 in the morning. ::grins sleepily:: reg

My opinion on MStrike...it seems extrmely powerful, i havnt been in an invasion where people use it(since im in plat). I dont know if it should be changed or not, it just seems very powerful...

I don't mind m-strikers in invasions either. If I'm in a crowded room, all I know is that I'm barely gonna have a chance to attack anything whether it's from an m-striker or 10 people each with their "attack first critter" through "attack tenth critter" command on. The only difference where m-strikers are worse than coners is that m-strikers are put in long roundtimes so they can't search their critters for other people to move onto the other critters in the room. And when they have their search flag up, ugh!

First off, you have a persecution complex. No one is trying to bash you.
The last invasion I saw you at was in the graveyard and had storm giants. Surprise, Surprise, you coned there as well. I dodged your lightning bolts there as well, and you took more lightning in the face. Your poorly chosen spells are not going to hurt me, and I enjoy seeing them backfire on the caster.
So, that is the reason that I felt the need to mention when I saw you coning again and killing folks in our most recent invasion. In the last two invasions that I've seen Edgeleaf, I've had to dodge 5 lightning bolts.
Cone of lightning against critters that reflect lightning is a rookie mistake -- not a mistake that a Rift age wizard continually makes.
Try to stick to the issue at hand instead of whining that folks are bound to pick on you.

It's not a flame. I'd just prefer not to have to worry about dodging lightning bolts every single time I see a person.
When someone responds with this kind of logic...

You'll notice the ten seconds of round time associated with two dodges. It also forces me out of hiding. I'd rather fight the critters than have to worry about cones, so that is why I have a problem with it.
I did not single Edge out to persecute him, I singled him out because he was the only one that coned in front of me, because I've seen him cone and kill folks before in invasions, AND because I knew he would read this and have the opportunity to defend himself.
Anyway, I don't have any hard feelings, I just wish it would stop happening.

The problem is that many coners do it because of the mstrikers, and the mstrikers do it because of the coners. It's a viscious cycle, unfortunately.
As unnerving as mstrike hunters can be during invasions, I'll tolerate them because they don't hurt other players.
The scrolling is always bad during invasions, whether it be one mstriker, or 10 individual hunters. Sometimes regular hunters will leave the mstriker with the room when they see how much he has it under control. I certainly don't stay around in a room with a proficient mstriker. My piddly strike at one critter when he maimed 10 is rather silly. There are plenty where those came from. reg
Explain how its overpowered please. Hitting 7 creatures in an area and having 60 seconds of RT. How many can you hit with cone and then do the same thing a few seconds later? And you even get to search yer kills! Wooo.
Btw, you all are generalizing quite a bit. Not all warriors mstrike in invasions. Not all wizards cone in invasions.
And I will always, always have my killgroup flag set during an invasions (all the time actually) because theres far too many people there with nothing better to do then steal loot.
Leslie, hasn't played GS in 4 months and should know better then to get involved in this.
