Lack of Leadership?

I been thinking of whats truely wrong with the lands.

Policy is one problem. The staff can't even agree on what it means and it's not just grey lines. I know of people getting warnings for saying the word arse. Which I have seen GMs say. they want Disneyfication, then define what Disneyfication is going to be.

Another problem is they don't finish what they start. Lots of towns are lacking shops, guilds, etc... Spells are not all finished. Enchant was said to be only gone for a short while. I asked a GM why they don't finish all these things. I was told they got to many projects and not enough staff.

Alright starting more projects then the staff can handle. Staff can't figure out policy. These are some of the problems in the lands.

What does this tell you?

I think it's lack of leadership in at Simutronics. Lack of pride in what you do.

Oops! I didn't finish putting on all the lug nuts...Sorry your tire fell of when you was driving!

Some people pay 10 to 40 bucks a month for the game. Now this is more expensive then all the other games. You would think that you would be paying for better quality with that extra few bucks.

I just listed a few problems off the top of my head. Please list the ones I missed.

Just think how much better the game would be if they finished the projects they started. It ruins everything when you take staff off of one project which is only halfway done and starting a new one.

What do you think?

I have to agree with you on this one. Pride in your work and honor in your word are two big things that would help.

What I say is what I do and what I do is my very best. This should be the ethos of any company. No matter what your mission statement says this would be a good addition.

I pay 10 dollars a month for this game because I feel it is a unique experiance and it has potential to be a great great game. The ground work is there and alot of what has been done is positive, just need to follow thru and keep the pressure on.

Ack! I'm agreeing with Edge!

It's not only a lack of leadership, it's also a lack of continuity. One GM says one thing and another GM states another. They all interpret the policy in different ways.

The problem with the leadership is not knowing how to prioritize and finish what you start. That they wanted to bring in the Elven Nations, and putting the fixes of already existing towns on hold just doesn't make sense to me.

Just like how Melissa just recently said that the implementation of the other guilds will be done before inserting the warrior and rogue guilds over there. Does that make any sense? To put in buildings for the professions that are right now only for RP reasons, and postpone opening the guild buildings which have actual skills already implemented? Hello?! Finish Teras, Solhaven, Icemule, and River's Rest and THEN go on to the new towns.

Lack of support? Hire more people! I hear about so many people who send in their applications to help code, GM, or whatnot. What is keeping them from hiring them? It's not like they make this whopping salary that they can't afford to pay.

Yep, let's make changes to enchanting and have a roleplaying event to help it along, but let's put it all on hold while we fix breakage and forging. Excuse me! Put the enchanting back in BEFORE the breakage so that people can have their more accessible higher enchant items.

They want to do so many things, but they don't realize that the more they start and never finish, the worse and harder they are making it for themselves. 100 half assed projects won't make people happy as opposed to 10 completely finished and working projects. Ten less projects to worry about because they work.

Bah, got me rambling. reg

Agreed with all statements.

However, it is the nature of GS3 which has created the monster. Back in 90 when no one had a clue that GS3 would get beyond the slightly popular MUD status, heck, no one had a clue that the internet would become so popular. Back then, the high level game gurus were all volunteers, and they'd put in an hour here, two hours there, when they had a chance. Many of those people are employed 9-5 or worse still, and put in their time when it allows.

Now, why not hire new skilled folks? Because I think Simu has antidelusions of grandeur. What is that you ask? That is when a company cannot believe that people are still playing a game and are prepared for it to die at any moment. That is why we still have volunteers and Simu won't put any new money into the system. They don't finish what they start because they simply do not believe that the game will last that long.

Now That is all from the eyes of an exec of Simu, not a GM. GMs generally have a more bright outlook, but still, if you took a time machine back to 1990 and told people that a 500-1000 people were still playing GS3 12 years later, would they believe you? Would any of the GMs believe you? I don't think so.

I certainly agree also. Too many projects going on. They opened a forge, and are diligently working on breakage but what about enchanting, spell circles and various profession guilds and skills? What about ranger companion that was mentioned 3 simucon's ago. Just too many things that need to be wrapped up before opening new cans of worms. Maybe the projects end up involving way more then they originally thought they would before they started, but that should have been an indication about 10 projects ago not to start something before tieing up other loose ends.

just my two cents

The other thing that I think leads to a lot of the current problems is the lack of continuity in staffing. It seems to me that many of the people at simu jump around to different job positions every 6-12 months. (or at least different job titles) It is hard to have any kind of consistency with your job/projects when you keep switching off them to others. Either simu has too many people leaving constantly, or they have too many people without a work plan or focus. While many compaines do have employees move around, it's usually after their projects are complete or ready to be further developed, not in the middle of them. Which is what simu almost everytime seems to be doing.

I mean, for those of you who have been around for some time playing gemstone. Think back to just how many projects/storylines have actually been finished after they've been started? My answer is very few. The ideas at simu are great, but the execution does leave something to be desired.

With all that said and done , I do love the product simu puts out, I wouldn't have been playing it these last 7+ years if I hadn't. I just sometimes wish they would do a better job with what they have.
